  • ► In this video, Joel Tadman pits the $500 Rapsodo MLM (Mobile Launch Monitor) up against the premium Foresight Sports GC2 launch monitor to see how the data and user experience compares. We are seeing an emergence of more affordable launch monitors but the big question is how reliable is the data and are they worth considering? Watch to the end to find out. Note - Foresight Sports no longer sell the GC2, which was used at the time of filming, it has since been replaced by the GC3 model.

    In the bag a 2021 PRGR, also have a R10. I test gapping, club speeds, ball speeds. Both match a trackman i tested all against. Very useful tools.

    I bought the Rapsodo MLM this winter. Saves me a lot of money. The price for the unit was about ten hours of Trackman simulator use, and I have found it giving good numbers until now. Easy to set up, and use it with my IPad. Feel the Iphone is to small a screen. I always have my Ipad with me anyways.

    I have a Garmin G80 and it has a launch monitor feature but has a bit of a problem tracking distance on the longer clubs. Knowing my distances is more important than other features.

    Would like to know how this performs indoors, given the correct setup parameters.

    Have the Garmin R10. I’m a beginner, so going to the range and trying to figure out what I was doing wrong was tough. The Garmin has helped me with club path by being able to see the numbers. Went from a slice to a nice draw in the few sessions I had with it. (Tried fixing the slice by just watching TH-cam vids before, would work for a bit but always ended up slicing next time back)

      I’m jealous; been waiting months for the r10 to be available again….

    The Rapsodo video and shot tracer looks pretty sweet. Don't have a portable launch monitor because I'm trying to build the best golf game I can without practice.

    Would a launch monitor work if you hit into a driving net at home?

    Interesting review. Another budget option is the prgr launch monitor. £199. Basic info but seems accurate enough for my purposes. I’ve discovered my limit in club speed versus distance.

      I think you can still get it on amazon for about 50 pounds.

    Problem with the Rapsodo is that it only works with iPhone or iPad :(

    I bet there will be a day in the near future when you can just lay your phone behind the ball and it will be as good as a trackman is today

      No doubt but it’s gonna be a long time as the camera has to be 10k fps and there’s gotta be at least 2 of them.
      There could be a high speed camera docking station, that a phone could be plugged into, that would be cool.

    I have Garmin R10, also recently bought PRGR (it got dirt cheap on amazon). Every "budget" (in quotation marks, coz it is kinda hard to call a "budget option" an item that costs the same as a set of really decent irons of top brands) golf monitor has its own unique feature.
    R10 - is the most powerful one, with maximum data and built-in sim mode, you can set up a simulator at home with this (comes even with free software).
    PRGR - The cheapest, very basic info, BUT! like none picks up club speed without hitting a ball. You can practise your swing and get instant info how fast you swung even if you do not have a net in your backyard.
    Rapsodo - Built-in tracer mode AND geolocation of your ball. Yes, it tries to locate your ball and show it on a satellite map. I am curious how it works...

      Rapsodo Uses phone/tablet GPS, you then orientate the map to show the direction of hitting then the landing site is based on the data that it records. It’s most useful when set up on a range as you get a feel for left/right dispersion….!

    • @MrMartwy
      @MrMartwy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nam064 I was wondering if it would help to locate the ball on the course ;-) Some older golfers with impaired vision could benefit from that feature.
      Like in this old joke, when an older guy complains that he can't see the ball as good as before. A friend says "I will play with you, I am old too, but my eyes still work great".
      They went to a course, "blind" one hits a ball, asks his friend:
      - Have you seen where it went?
      - Yes!
      - So, where is it?
      - Um... I forgot...

    • @nam064
      @nam064 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrMartwy it’s a classic! Imagine it won’t be super accurate to the square foot where your ball lands but it would at least give you an idea of direction of travel and end location of eye sight is that compromised.

    £500 is not affordable for most people. £60 is affordable.

    watched first 1:27 of video. The question should be, how accurate is ANY launch monitor compared to your intuition, analysis or vision. Something is better than nothing.

    I may have misunderstood was that 550 for an app and kickstand?

    • @nam064
      @nam064 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not just a kick stand, the Rapsodo base has radar functionality that works in conjunction with the camera on the phone. The data that is spat out is from an combination of the two.
