I had the exact same problem (engine light on with depollution fault message) 3 garages couldn't fix the problem. 3rd garage Firstly said it was injectors, replaced those, fault remained. Then they said it was the hydraulic lifters, replaced those and the problem remained. £800 down the drain with no resolution to the problem. Only when it went in for a new MOT did the mechanic solve things...a simple sensor was at fault. Just over £100 fixed the fault. The car (Pegeaut 308cc 2006 manual) has done just over 60k miles, ran as sweet and as quiet as could be beforehand. Now I sit in traffic and can hear the hydraulic lifters tapping away like they need replacing and it runs unevenly. Peed off is an understatement!
@Paul Williams I'll have a look for the invoice and let you know. During the MOT test, the mechanic said he nearly failed it due to the omissions reading but had noticed the engine light was on and suspected the sensor was at fault. He tampered with it saying they often play up when about to fail...he managed to get it to work long enough to pass the MOT then ordered a new one and fitted it the next day. I'm no mechanic so couldn't argue in court but I strongly suspect the previous garages knew the fault and ripped me off.
I have cleared my egr valve and I did change fuel filter issue solved, I do recommend everybody to do same before you go to machanic, if you can not do it yourself just go to machanic and ask them to clear egr and change fuel filter by doing this you will have no moro anti pollution fault

Hi, I set out with my 207 1.6 HDi vehicle. On the way, the depollution system faulty letter burned and the engine pain relief lamp turned on, my vehicle fell out of traction, but I arrived at my destination.

@Paul Williams The part replaced was an oxy sensor - Lambda Sensor 1. Cost was £107.62 (part cost £83.62, labour costs £24.00 VAT inc)
