    I like this movie because of all the devastating turns it has. Cal dying when everyone fights back, Barden ALMOST succeeding to rescue Iris, Iris shooting Lucas before even letting him talk, and don't forget Iris' brother at the end. It really separates itself from what movies usually do (a happy ending, a successful rescue). It reminds you that the good guys don't always win.

    Man this hits different now, now that we have a prime real life example of this rich privileged scumbag, toying with people for his own amusement (and/or for even more money, and fame), all while disguising his actions as something different entirely, daring to paint himself and pretend like he's the good, bah, the best guy, the bestest of the good guys and some kind of genius at that. And there sure are many, many more such people. The world is such a dark place... (Well actually not "the world" but rather "this planet", given how Earth is just a singular planet existing among countless others and who knows how many are there with sentient life, but you know what I mean).

    I heard about this movie years ago and would only see clips of it, i decided to watch it and it's not that bad. It's not afraid to hurt or kill off characters. I really liked the protagonists acting since she was in a Disney movie and in Prom Night, also The Penguin from Gotham is in the film.

    • @wisewolftony
      @wisewolftony 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That alone got me to watch the film. Loved Robin Lord Taylor as the penguin. Honestly most of the actors who played villains in that series were amazing was a big reason as to why I loved it so much. Know a good amount of people disliked it but I really enjoyed it. Honestly most of the villains in that series are my favorite on screen versions of them. Like Taylor as Penguin seeing how Danny Devito version was way to Burton for my liking. And I liked Colin Farrell but haven't seen enough of him yet as Penguin. Then Cory Smith was my favorite Riddler. Really liked Paul Dano in The Batman but felt Smith was a lot closer to the comic being more playful. And then might be a sin to say this but Cameron Monaghan was my favorite Joker.

    • @randallflagg3700
      @randallflagg3700 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wisewolftony 'tis no sin I assure you, Cameron Monaghan is also my favorite "Mr J"... *Gotham* indeed had many great actors playing great villains for 5 badass seasons...
      On top of those you've already listed, I'd also nominate B.D Wong as _Professor Hugo Strange_ , Alexander Siddig as _Ra's al Ghul_ , Benedict Samuel as _Jervis Tetch aka the Mad Hatter_ , and David Zayas as _Salvator "Sal" Maroni_ as my personal favorites.
      edit:
      How did I manage to forget to give a shout out to my man Anthony Carrigan for his role as _Victor Zsasz_ !
      It's a very different Zsasz from what we're used to, but that role really changed the way lots of people view the character.
      For instance, they copy-pasted him 100% for the (lesser) show *Batwoman* in which Mr Zsasz is played by another actors fans of *Gotham* will be familiar with, Alex Morf.

    • @wisewolftony
      @wisewolftony 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@randallflagg3700 Yea only reason I didn't list any of them off was because I was just listing my favorite villains from the series who also appeared in films. Although I should have included Anthony as Zsasz seeing how Zsasz did appear in the Birds of Prey film although I have refused to watch that film due to what they did to my 2nd favorite member of the Bat Family Cassandra Cain. As they made her into a generic teenage girl who freaking talks non stop from what the trailers show and can't fight both utter opposites from her actual character. She's a mute or mostly mute badass who is so skilled at fighting even Batman know's he could never beat her. But I love Anthony as Zsasz and how different it is seeing how he's kind of boring in the comics and games just basically a generic crazy serial killer. Anthony was also the reason I started watching the show Barry which he's amazing in as Noho Hank.
      All the others you listed were amazing as well. Wong felt very similar to the only version of Hugo I really know which is the one from Arkham City game. Should have included Siddig as Ra's as he's a better Ra's to me then Liam was in Batman Begins. And Samuel as Mad Hatter was one of my top 5 favorite villains in the series. Also one last actor I have to give some praise to was Cerveris as Professor Pyg. Know in Gotham he was a serial killer impersonating Pyg but still Cerveris his actor nailed Pyg in terms of his voice sounded almost exactly like the Pyg from Arkham Knight.

    • @randallflagg3700
      @randallflagg3700 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wisewolftony - It's cool, you couldn't list everyone after all, and you already listed the top 3, so I figured I would give a few less established charas a push.
      I also checked *"Barry"* out because of Anthony Carrigan, and I'm so glad I did!
      In some comics, Zsasz can be boring, but properly used he can be terrifying...
      Don't worry about *Birds of Prey* , you haven't missed much, and I'm saying that as someone who usually defends the DCEU (or the good movies in it at least) tooth and nail.
      My biggest motivation to go watch it is that Roman Sionis, the Black Mask, was finally on the big screen in a major role!
      But much like Cassandra Cain, he is nothing like his usual self, and only wears the mask for a couple scenes...
      It's so weird that I had to watch a terrible show like *Batwoman* to finally get a decent live action Black Mask!
      He is the Big Bad of season 2, and his False Face society is pretty much the only thing that kept this crappy show together in S2...
      *Peter Outerbridge* did a fantastic job as Roman Sionis, and it's a shame he was wasted on Batwoman...
      I also agree with *Gotham* 's Ra's being superior to the one from *Batman Begins* , and also IMHO to the one from *Arrow* season 3, played by Matt Nable.
      Nable was good in *Arrow* , and his League of Assassins ninjas looked great in this show, better than the ones from BB&Gotham (but that's just personal taste for that choice)
      Matt Nable played the "noble demon" Ra's, the well-intentioned extremist willing to sacrifice millions to save billions, the martial artist with a strong code of honor and sense of respect for the "detective" as he calls Batman...
      In *Gotham* , Alex Siddig did a fantastic job playing the "bastard" Ra's, the psycho who wants to shape the world to his image and doesn't really care for human beings.
      The difference between his daughter Nyssa in the 2 shows (Arrow&Gotham) really highlights his different persona.
      Though I guess in Gotham, Nyssa was just a more fleshed out version of TDKR's Talia al Ghul.
      I still loved her, Jaime Murray was so good in that role...
      Wish we got more fighting scenes out of her, her fight against Jim Gordon is one of my favorites in the 5 seasons...

    As cold as Lucas' kill was, I think Iris made the most human reaction ever. Killing somebody right before he gets emotionnal, because we all knows it would be WAY more difficult to make a choice after, and after hearing the story it would have also make the Guilt scale override.

    I remember finding this on Netflix and rewatching it again and again, it wasn't a slasher or something that kept you on the edge by not showing you what would happen next. It showed you exactly what was happening and still had the horror aspect to it and its villain didn't need a backstory or an explaination for why he does what he does to help the story. There is just a sick businessman playing a sick game with desperate people who all need help and it's great, and I remember watching it wondering who would win and how the rest would die even though I knew Iris was the main character. It was just a great movie and I think it's a bit better for those who like the genre but can't always handle the gore

    10:43 we talked about this in our Holocaust Studies class junior year. My teacher called it a "choiceless choice". The idea is that if both options end in death, it's not /really/ a choice. In a lot of these peoples' cases, it's either go to a sketchy dinner and worst case scenario be kidnapped best case scenario have all your financial problems solved OR go into poverty and spend the rest of your life fighting for not only your survival but the survival of your loved ones. It's a choiceless choice, and as we noticed in class, 9 times out of 10 people won't go down without a fight. self preservation and all that

    Having the extra detail of former movies with the same count and ratio is a great addition! I would love to see more random bits of information like this in the future.

    This channel has singlehandedly expanded my willingness to watch films I wouldn't otherwise watch. James and Chelsea are truly unique in this over saturated TH-cam market. They're independent, creative and have impeccable taste in horror. Whether it be serious, 'elevated horror' or fun going slashers, they never cease to amaze on the consistency or production value of their Kill Counts. These two belong in the film industry, charging what they like. But we have the pleasure of enjoying their content for free! Must we remember that. Please keep up the high standards, and I look forward to the next entry :)

      Same!! Dead meat is the reason I opened myself to the horror genre and I'm so happy that I did.

      Agreed but may I mention the title “elevated horror” is dumb because the idea behind it makes other horror films come off as lesser or dumber than what gets that label-and considering what can be considered elevated horror can be applied to a ton of horror films that don’t get this label which makes the label meaningless.
      Maybe arthouse or indie horror works a little better? But the term elevated horror has always been dumb to me and it’s an underhanded insult to other films in the same genre.
