This is one of the things that has brought the most healing through trauma therapy with my counsellor.
My therapist said pretty much exactly the same thing, saying that my responses make sense for someone who has experienced what I've experienced.
Prior to the counselling experience, people who I sought out and were in a power position to help me escape the traumatic situation blamed me for what was happening and invalidated everything I was saying. That in and of itself was further traumatizing because not only was I stuck in a traumatic situation, but the people who were supposed to help me only made things worse.
That was one of the best things to hear because I was still carrying things on my own shoulders and not having a disposition of self-compassion. My therapist empowered me to believe that what those people said to me and about my situation isn't true.
When I was initially in therapy, I was not doing well from a mental health standpoint and the trauma therapy I received was life-changing, if not life-saving.
