Instead of actually addressing the ways in which society sexualises, dehumanizes and violates women's bodily autonomy, we end up focusing on the clothes they wear whenever there is a case of sexual violence.

If women wear clothes that sexualise them then others will sexualise them. This does not mean their bodily autonomy should be violated.
If somebody dresses like a police officer people will assume that they are a police officer and if someone dresses like a whore people will assume that that person is a whore.

There have been rape cases in Burka, saree, shalwar kamees (together they form the majority of rape casees). rape cases where the victim was wearing frocks and skirts are limited to pre-puberty girls. i.e. 5yr olds, 7 yr olds

@@aadityamurali18 and how exactly does whores dress? uniforms and normal dresses are different. Uniform represents the police officers position in the station and is designed for the job. But when a police officer goes to a family function, he/she wears a traditional dress, so do people assume just because the officer is wearing a traditional dress, he/she is model or a dress vendor?

Even in Ancient Era , men and women used to wear extremely revealing short dresses and it's a culture it's a traditional attire in those times . You can see women carvings on the walls of historical monuments and temples, in paintings and statues in museums.
Even in today's villages , rural women still wears short revealing Ghagra Choli !!!
And from here Westerners tried to copy our style our fashion of revealing because in Europe in early and late 18 th century , there was not much difference between the outfits for both the genders , they were quite similar .. So yeah!! Westerners used to wear more clothes for covering their bodies .

The number of places in South India where women move around freely in the night are many more than the northern regions. This is so totally relatable. People have become so much judgemental regarding our clothing that it has crossed all its limits.
There's a girl in my colony who wears short dresses which is totally normal for me. But my mom always keeps commenting on her sense of dressing in front of me.
Even when I dress up beautifully wearing normal make up, she is like: Are you going to a fashion show 🙄😒
It is not only the case of females I feel. Whenever boys wear loose clothes they are commented as girly. Like those who are Army like me will know that BTS gets so much hate just because using make up or wearing colorful attires🙄

Ghunghat culture reeks of heavy patriarch attitudes that wants to control women, certainly that should not be tolerated even in UP/Haryana. In WB there's a hard fought gain in reducing patriarch attitudes, we certainly don't wanna lose that.

I'm 17,i wanna share a incident, happened 2-3 days ago,i wore a simple top(not crop top or half shoulder) with a high waist jeans..i was going to tution,my tution is little far from my home, but most of the time i go there by walking only, there's a lonely street between the journey, 2-3 days ago i was going through that street as usual as a normal human who passes through that street without any fear, two boys of my age or maybe 1-2 years older than me,started following me,at first i was avoiding negative possibilities, for giving myself strength i was just hoping that maybe they're not following me, maybe they've also work in this same way,but for clearing doubt i tried to check the situation,i stopped walking for a while to give them chance to go before me,but they also stopped their walk,i tried this 3-4 times, they stopped walking all the 3-4 times,i putted a headphone from first with song off to show them that I don't know about the situation, after getting sure that they're following me i u-turned myself and walked back to the crowded street to take rickshaw,at the time i u-turned i had to face those bastards, but I didn't looked at their face,i pretended that i was busy on a call with my mom,and just walked away, and they just stopped walking and watched me going back to crowded street, they also whispered to each other, but sound reached to me,one said-chhor chhor wo ja rahi hai, second guy said- iss baar bach gyi, i walked in normal speed and took rickshaw, then rickshaw went through that street again to reach the destination,i saw them both sitting under a closed shop and stared me going..thoda aur aage jaati paidal to aur khaali raasta tha wo,aur waha se wapas jaana bohot distance tha, kuch bhi ho skta tha uss din,can please anyone tell me what wrong i did that day,did i wore wrong dress or behaved wrong, mummy ko ghar aakr boli to mummy said: isliye khaali raaston jaana ladkio ke liye sahi nhi hai,but ladkio ne kiya kya hai yaar raasta to sabke liye banta hai, ladke comfortably jaa skte hai ladkiya kyu nhi,jo galat hai unko point out kro hi mat, ladko ko saat khoon maaf, ladkiya innocent hokar bhi guilty, aisa kyu hai yaar..mai uss din darr skti thi darr m galat step utha sakti thi,ya phir hone deti jo horha tha,but self defense khudko hi krna tha,ye apni zimmedari thi kr liya,ab to be honest ek akele raste m isse zyada kuch tha nhi mere paas krne apne dimag ko lgane ke wjaye, but aisi situation m aana kyu pdhta hai yaar ldkiyo ko,kya yhi equality hai?
I guess no😔or maybe aaj kl ke zmane ke liye yhi equality ho..

tbh, my parents never restricted me from wearing short or revealing clothes. They even never told me to stay at home after 7:00 or to not talk to boys. Infact, i have many male friends who come at my home. My parents are indeed different. I am lucky to have them. Also, after reading the comments i feel bad for other girls whose parents are strict.😔

Just happened with me.....didn't know who to share with so I'm writing it here
It's really hot today so I wore a sleeveless shirt and I felt really comfortable
When my dad got home he must have said something to my mom and she came to me saying"dad didn't like your t shirt .... Change it"
I know it's a small thing but it really hurt me
I'm facing a lot of mental health issues right now and even the smallest things trigger panic attacks and breakdowns
I am an adult, I've the right to wear whatever I want.... No one gets to police me on my sleve length
And I did NOT change my t shirt... Anyone with a problem may close their eyes

Wearing clothes to conceal or reveal is a personal choice. I choose to cover my body 'cause I find it valuable. We cover and take care of our valuable things because we actually value them, just like keeping our money in wallets. People wearing short clothes are not the only people who are judged but also people who dress modestly are judged by saying they are old school or not fashionable enough. All we need to do is stop judging people by the way they dress.

I don't know how old sculpture is related here. Just because it was on a wall doesn't make it that it was widely appreciated. We don't even know the background.
And furthermore do you really think anyone who wears revealing clothes knows that it was like this in old sculpture? No, they do it because movies and cinema shows it to us and make it look cool and gets validation and attention from everyone. That's why it's called "trend".
"A little bit of cleave" you say...even when blouse was not discover no one showcased there private part for fashion. I don't understand the logic behind it. Jys simply agree that we do it because it has became popular because of social media and gets us more attention and we do it to look cool and modern. No need to make excuses "ohh i do it for myself" "i feel good in it".
Another point, in ancient times people didn't even wore anything, does that mean we can do that now?. It's called evolution. So many flawed logic.

  • @the_xcrown

The main problem is Indian likes other culture and try to adopt it. First when women didn't used blouse they were banned at various places then seeing the western culture again shifting to short clothes. But it's the time now when clothes should not be part of discussion everything is there choice what they want to wear rather Focus on self education and self growth.

And from here Westerners tried to copy our style our fashion of revealing because in Europe in early and late 18 th century , there was not much difference between the outfits for both the genders , they were quite similar .. So yeah!! Westerners used to wear more clothes for covering their bodies .
