Great video for those who are learning photography. Too many people are talking too much about buying the latest camera or lens without understanding that photography is more about lighting and compostion than acquiring the latest camera or lens.
Disagree. No! I have to go to Adorama & by an M11, 50 mm APO & some lighting. Ah, maybe not. Let me call Adorama & see what they think.☺ But seriuosly, Except for landscape & sports photography, almost every other genre of photography, more would be gained from purchasing lighting equipment & learning how to use it than a new camera. You have to admit got to love great glass/lenses! I know I do.
I have learned alot from Mark and many of the photographers that represent Adorama channel and store. I agree Mark is an excellent instructor you should check out Daniel Norton he is very good also
It is astounding how much I have learned, and also how much I have accidentally gotten "right", by watching your videos, and those those of a couple others through Adorama. Likely the best resource for the learning photographer.
Hey Adorama/Mark. Have you thought about making this a series? Getting the idea of practicing for "the big game" in people's minds rather than just recreating is powerful. Great video.
Thank you Mark, I had a lot of fun with this assignment. I only had continuous lighting, but still managed to get a nice shot. Thank you for the inspiration and the technical information to try it for ourselves.
fantastic video! i followed your instructions and got results i never would have expected! maybe that was the most usefull youtube video i ever watched! thank you so much!
Mark - great video. My family couldn't work out where the grapes and apples had disappeared to.....my first attempt was not spectacular but I understand the principles. Will try again. Thanks for all this info. I like the way you teach.
I really really LOVE this video!!! I'm actually approaching the still life photography and this video is exactly what I was looking for! I will do more or less your same actions/steps ...even if your Prophoto flash is so professional while mine is just a 150€ flash 😅. Let's see what will happen. I have added you to my preferred channel: thanks!!! ❤️
Very good presentation! There are a couple projects I've planned, and was having trouble setting them up; this helped a lot, and now I can move forward. Plus, it's clearly possible to get fine results without investing in expensive equipment every time. As always, useful information!
I loveeeeee this video!! I am just starting out in Applied Media Program at College. This was a great video, easy to follow along and simple explanations. I am so happy to find this video. I am sure food subjects will come up in my projects....saving your video for reference when it does. Thanks so much. New subscriber.
Merci pour cette video Mark ...j adore tes videos comme celles de Gavin Hoey . J ai enormement appris sur la lumiere avec vous... Amitiés From PARIS in France
Hahaha Mark! Je ne croyais pas que tu parlais français 😊 Ou tu utilises Google translate. Anayway, if you ever come to Quebec city I’ll be happy to help you with French. @niromtek on instagram.
I certainly don't practice this kind of stuff enough. But it's also one of the reasons that I have multiple foam boards and different fabrics and card stock along with my actual equipment. They make great DIY flags or backgrounds for studio style shots.
This is awesome sauce Mark! Thank you very much for this tutorial and suggestions for trying it out ourselves. I hope you continue this series and work up a future episode where by you do this with a model and vintage clothing for another ‘Old Masters’ style edit. PS I hope you pass this video along to your Adorama colleague, Daniel Norton. He will be impressed by how many times you used the term, “specular highlights”, a pet term of his! LOL. Cheers.
You’re the best dude. Been watching your videos ever since I got into photography. Quick question: I know you use profoto, is there a way to mix profoto lights with other brands, like godox? But not lose hss?
Good video, considering that you said this could take hours, I would have suggested using small reflectors, paper/cardstock/etc to bring in light to the fruit.
I absolutely agree. That's the extra credit exercise for everyone at home. Even this simple demo was pushing 20 minutes, perhaps I should create a second video to show adding the front fill with reflectors, etc.
Great video for those who are learning photography. Too many people are talking too much about buying the latest camera or lens without understanding that photography is more about lighting and compostion than acquiring the latest camera or lens.
True words.

what is this kera skera you mentioned at 4:55? I'm sure I'm spelling it wrong and cant find it in the google machine
Marty Steinberg Search for chiaroscuro and you will find the explanation.
Quite good, enjoyed it.
What software do you use to adjust the color, tone, and illumination of the scene?
Excellent and very helpful video mate 👍
Very good tutorial thank you.
Excellent video!
where did the black background come from?

I would have put a white card beside of the glass vase to camera right to give a secular highlight thus giving the case some form and dimension.
This is super and thank you so much I'm going to see what I can get.
Just what I needed, when I needed. Great video. 🖖
I'm still thinking of what laptop to buy to practice this and learn photo editing. Now I'm just learning to shoot, and no editing.
You’re the best dude. Been watching your videos ever since I got into photography. Quick question: I know you use profoto, is there a way to mix profoto lights with other brands, like godox? But not lose hss?
To eliminate the stand issue you can use a boom and than used a background stand for the background you would just need to position ajust properly.
great video. thank you
Great job!
Hey Mark, what version of Lightroom are you using, that brush adjustments just apply so fast! Thank for the great work!
It's a very useful techniques... Thank u sir...

What are you using to trigger your strob. I have a m262 and can not find any info of what will work with it to fire the monolight.
Simple. Great.
Muchas gracias!
Are reflections on shiny skin in portraiture also called specular highlights? And do you have a video about avoiding them?
what is this you have placed on the table on which the fruit ts are?
Amazing 😉
