I needed this 20 years ago!!! I’m picking up my cameras again and I don’t think I’ve ever really understood this! I’ll be watching this several times 🤣
As a photo 101 instructor I know that everyone learns a different way and at a different pace. I've just emailed all my students to begin viewing these. Mark Wallace is understandable, the script doesn't go in circles and, uses an accessible vocabulary. Thanks!

Appreciate Video clip! Forgive me for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you thought about - Zetanniay Visionary Preset (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for creating stunning photos in minutes minus the normal expense. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my close friend Aubrey got amazing success with it.
I've been in photography since the age of 9 or 10. I've heard it explained every witch way. The way you explained it is very simple and easy to understand. Awesome job.
just got my first camera and have been watching so many videos, this guy knows how to speak to beginners. I feel like a lot of photographers have been doing it so long they still speak with technical terms and leave me with more questions that I began the video with
This is one of the best explanations of the 3 elements of picture taking. I just bought a camera and was looking for an explanation of these elements. I really appreciate his explanation of what is the most important one to set first. It depends and that was a big help. Thanks
Was planning to go for a paid training but, your video made me change my mind before I finished watching it. Why would I spend my money while I have got a very professional man for free! Thank you.
I just started to study photography and I must say this video is VERY clear, concise and friendly. The instructor is very good and friendly. I learned a lot in a few minutes!
I’m a self-taught photographer and this video is amazing. Great way of keeping it technical and specific without over-complicating anything. You broke down the terminology and purpose of everything very well. You were easy to understand and follow along. Referring this to friends who ask me any photography questions lol :)
Thank you. This is the most easiest to understand video i have found on this subject. I dont know which planet the other guys from other video channels are from because I didn't ask them.
You are exceptional with the way you made this complex topic simpler. You have summarised in the most simple way, yet covered everything that needs to be in there. Wonderful. Looking forward for the continued videos.
The way u set an example to make it understand is unique and really Nice... everyone can understand it.. Really 10000 tons of thanks to u.. i m really exited to see all ur videos.. But i m not a good lerner so all together makes me confused.. So till today my first lesson is clear about the 3 elements...
Very good tutorial as usual ! Mark doesn't make the same mistake other photography teachers do and say that raising your Iso lets in more light. It doesn't. Iso is not a physical parameter like shutter speed or aperture.
Extremely well explained! I was trying to think how I could explain all of this to my daughter, this video did the work for me and a lot better than I could have
I've watched numerous videos as I am just beginning to take photography seriously, and this was honestly one of the most clear and helpful one I've seen! cheers man :)
of all the videos of PRO Photographers that cater tutorial videos, this one is the easiest to understand. thanks so much for this video. learnt a lot and digested quite quite well💜
This is a huge help! I've always used Auto, the lazy way, as I could never keep f-stops and aperture and shutter straight, only the ISO! LOL Thank you very much for actually showing the difference, really stuck in my head! I love the simpler way of breaking it down!
You are so easy to follow and you explain it well, although it's a lot to take in and I stay confused over shutter, ISO, and aperture, I do so enjoy your video's ...thank you so much for making these video so I can learn more about my camera.....:)
Thank you so much for your precise explanation. I was struggling to play with exposure triangle. Sometimes pictures come as I have expected and feel happy about that but other time it does not work as I expected it to. I am bit more clearer after watching this video.
Great explanation as someone like me who has no solid idea of what these terms actually mean. I ran through heaps of readings and explanations but but i didnt really grasp what exactly they are until I found this video that helps me understand in “common terms” LOL thank you so much:)

Just recently came across this and very easy to understand. I’m a student photographer so this video helps a lot to me to understand the exposure triangle
Hands down, the best explanation of exposure in photography! I've watched many but up until now it's not become, "second nature". Thanks for simplifying the matter! Earned y'all another sub =P
Ive been doing research for about a year before I finally bought my first camera, and this video finally helped me put everything together!! Thanks alot! Keep it up
Great! Exactly what I was looking for..After watching so many other explanations I was about to sell my camera with frustration... till I found your video. Thanks a LOT!
You can use a diagram of this type to illustrate/indicate the theoretical exposure setting. To do this, you draw a line from each corner to the opposite side indicating the specific values, i.e. aperture, iso and time (the angle for shutter from the top right to the left side of the triangle, this for aperture is that from the top left to the right side of the triangle and this for iso that from bottom corner to top side). The intersection of these three lines gives you a theoretical exposure setting. And when you change a parameter (aperture, iso, time) you redraw the line to another specific value on the respective side. This also changes the location of the intersection of the lines (=theoretical exposure setting). So when you change one of three parameters, at least one of the other two parameters also changes. If you want to apply this to the above diagram then sequence the values of one of the parameters must be inverted otherwise this diagram cannot be used to indicate/illustrate the theoretical exposure setting. Many thanks for the video!!!
Thanks Mr. Wallace for this video. I appreciate if you can resolve the following confusion that I have and I am noticing that nobody is talking about in TH-cam or the internet, which is the number of F stop between the camera and the actual lens, on your lens, the aperture is writen as 1.4 to 5, which means the smallest aperture is 5, but you mentioned 16 ! I thought the F number must be identical between the lens and the camera especially only the lens could determine the aperture. Thanks you again.
I just bought the Canon Powershot SX530 and I'm also a pure beginner just figuring out what these terms mean and dipping my toes into the other mode beyond AUTO mode. Thank you, I'll be sure to watch the follow up videos!
Thank you, Mr. Wallace! I just received my first "real" camera and I appreciate the way you have explained the basics and also all of your visuals, which are especially helpful to me in giving me an overall picture of each light-related setting. All of this is new to me since my prior "point and shoot" did so much for me I had never explored those settings on it. Now, I am just trying to figure out how to use my Canon Rebel T6 and I think I have an idea of what these 3 settings mean. I am looking forward to viewing more. I hope all of your videos are explained in the same way. Thank you so much!
Perfect way to explain....just a minor suggestion or correction, Aperture controls quantity of light and shutter controls the duration (not the quantity) of that light to expose the sensor. But you almost nailed it from noob's perspective. very informative.
When I first watched this I had no idea what he was talking about. Now with actual practice, it all makes sense. Keep shooting everyone!
omg this is me right now . i have no idea . you give me hope
Same. When I started it really confused me. Then I started experimenting with each each and it became clear.
