The sign of a good car dealer is how they deal with problems, if they occur. You did exactly the right thing - morally as well as legally…. Well done!! 😀👏🏼

I gave a car back for a refund recently. Day 1 of having it. One rear door didnt open and the other didnt lock. Was happy to have a repair but the way the dealer acted at the thought of a refund was a major red flag. I have sympathy for car dealers but if a customer wants a refund in the first week as it has issues i think its only fair. Respect to this dealer handling things as a pro!!!

You dealt with the situation well and that goes a long way and the customer shall be singing your praises rather than Slating you.

Every year it’s 1/2 max refunded in full. Not a biggie. Happens. I stay away certain older unreliable cars.

I was burned on a Mercedes A class, came with full service history. Had a clunk sound when going over bumps and an oil leak. Car was unsellable and cost £800 to fix due to the difficulty to repair because these engines are packed tight into a small frame and labour is high. Even after the repair it still wasn’t 100% so ended up selling at a loss and informing the customer of issues. Was my 4th car that I bought to sell from auction and put me off for now.
My first car was an A7 2013 with an S-Tronic gearbox. Found out after purchase the mechatronic and clutch had gone costing £2500 to repair. The fault wasn’t realised until 60-70mph and therefore didn’t show on the auction checks.
I want to go back and start buying cars again to sell, nothing big just a car a month from home. I see many people doing this successfully. When you buy well, there’s nothing better than driving a different car and making a customer happy at the end. So I’m trying to learn how to buy better, not just on price but for retail ready with little to no issues. Not being a mechanic or not having mechanic friends becomes expensive.

Great that you handled this so professionally. But in the first month does the customer still have to give you one attempt to fix it?

If you have a warranty claim are you not covered by the insurance of the warranty?
Anyway good that you did the honest and decent thing, hopefully this will help you in selling more cars

As a car dealer how long are you responsible for any repairs or refunds is it 3months or 6 months?

You’re wrong about the right to repair. If the car has a fault the buyer has the right to reject with in the first 30 days.
