  • Wrestling Bios Presents - Steve Austin Before the WWE
What can be said about the popularity and superstardom that Steve Austin achievied in the WWE that hasn't been said before? Stone Cold Steve Austin became a household name during the rise of the Attitude Era, becoming the biggest draw in the history of professional wrestling. Steve Austin's career in the WWE was really special, a once in a lifetime superstar that generated new viewers towards the world of wrestling.
Steve Austin had a solid career in WCW, working as Stunning Steve Austin, before making his way to New York, but it wasn't without bumps in the road. After training under Gentleman Chris Adams and working in the USWA, Steve made his WCW debut in 1991 and nearly instantly captured the WCW Television Championship. From here, Steve would work alongside Paul Heyman, team up with Ravishing Rick Rude, become one half of the Hollywood Blondes tag team with Brian Pillman, and have an exciting feud with Ricky Steamboat (just to name a few).
This video takes a look at Steve Austin before he became a massive success in the WWE. Topics include:
01:51 - Steve Austin gets trained by Gentleman Chris Adams
04:09 - How Steve Austin got his name
06:01 - Stunning Steve Austin becomes a heel in the USWA
    07:52 - Stunning Steve Austin's WCW Debut
09:24 - Steve Austin becomes a Paul Heyman Guy in WCW
11:58 - Brian Pillman and Steve Austin tag up as The Hollywood Blondes
13:38 - Steve Austin vs Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat
15:54 - Steve Austin is released by Eric Bischoff
16:43 - Steve Austin in ECW
    - Much More!

tbh thats really how WCW was for its lifetime, literally threw away all their talent with extreme potential like Steve Austin, Eddie Gurrero, Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio etc. just so they could keep the old guys from WWF on the main event. Hulk Hogan was an actual cancer to WCW.

Then I picked it up again (after it was ditched) mid 90s to see sting, undertaker, pillman, Austin and nwo going all edgier and a bit off. Familiar yet not how I remembered 😂

I first saw Steve Austin when he was WCW US champion. I really liked his work, but he also got lost in the shuffle when the WWF guys came over. I remember some of his final promo's he cut, and he was digging into Hulk Hogan. I honestly think they would have had a good spod for him in a revised Horsemen with Brial Pillman, Arn Anderson Flair and Col. Parker. As good of a mix that would have been, would never have been as big as his WWF run.

The Mikey Whipwreck thing in regards to the stunner is completely inaccurate, it was very much Michael Hayes who gave Steve Austin the idea, here's the quote from Stone Cold himself:
"I guess the year was 1996. We were in Fayetteville, NC. at a Monday Night Raw. It was just a normal Monday. I was hanging around the arena killing time before the show started, minding my own business when Michael P.S. Hayes came up to me and said “Hey, Kid…You got a minute? I wanna show you something”. I said “Sure” and followed him to the ring. As we walked he started explaining to me that he had maybe come up with a better finishing move for me than the one I was using at the time. I had been using the Million Dollar Dream, H.O.F’er Ted DiBiase’s old finish that I had been given when I first came into WWF, with Ted as my manager. It had been a great finisher for Ted, and it was working well for me too, but I needed something a little more explosive that fit my personality. Michael explained that Johnny ‘Ace’ Laurinaitus had been using a version of the this finish in Japan with great success."
