I met Jim Duggan last year and actually asked him about the XWF. All he said was and I quote: "They had a lot of chances...but they had Brian Knobbs in charge."
Ah, the XWF and all its stars: Jimmy Snuka Twonior, British Worm Ian Robinson, Hail Shane and Hell Shane, HORACE, Billy Fives, Christopher Daniels with hair, Evil Teddy Hart, and Hulk Hogan OR MAYBE NOT BROTHER!
Great again Jack! Love these, keep them coming! The true story of DPW could be good too. 3 guys who loved pro wrestling, who then started streaming, who then started a promotion, which has since taken off!
And, no shit. There I was. A green as hell soldier, stationed at Fort Campbell. The upstart TNA? Gave us free tickets, every week, to attend their shows at the Nashville fairgrounds. IE: "The TNA Arena." Not only were we given front row priority? But backstage access, as well. I've met SO many. From The Insane Clown Posse, to an upstart AJ Styles (after an Ultimate X Match win), to Sabu (who's broken English was fun as hell), to Raven (who's genuinely gotta be one of the funniest guys on this planet). It's little wonder, to me, that they still exist.
Jack's gotten so damn good at these historical wrestling recap videos. Like many of the other commenters here, I was aware of XWF from Deadlock's hilarious podcasts about them, but it was really cool to actually learn a lot about the promotion in a more informative video! Great job, Jack!
23:00 in 2006 when i was in WWC they still had boxes and boxes of XWF tshirts in the WWC office that they would try to sell here and there. I think they gave me a free one at one point but i forget what i did with it.
I worked with Jimmy Heart around this time and XWF was all he would talk about. He gave us a promo trailer and it looked ok but I could tell it was very expensive.

My dad and I went to one of their final house shows in Hobbs, New Mexico in Feb, 2002. It was awesome to see Roddy Piper and Terry Funk in person, Sable was there, and my dad struck up a conversion with Terry's wife Vicki about him being on police detail for the Amarillo territory shows. The thing I remember most though is they had a horrendous Ultimate Warrior ripoff wrestling either Vampiro or the Wall. The Warrior (I can't remember what they called him, but it was clearly a ripoff) was so bad the crowd started turning on the match. Main event was Funk against Greg Valentine.
This was a pretty fascinating time in wrestling. Back in the early 00’s, I didn’t have a computer. However, I always used to watch the TV Guide channel to see what’s on television. I remember being very intrigued by this XWF event on PPV. It wasn’t just them, there was also the WWA World Wrestling Allstars which had Jeff Jarrett, Bret Hart, Randy Savage, etc. Then NWA-TNA came into the scene with their new weekly PPV on Wednesdays. Definitely was a period which a variety of promotions tried to fill the void that WCW left. I never ordered any of these PPV’s and all I knew about them was their commercials.
No more pimadonnas, in a company fronted by Hulk Hogan lol. Sure thing brother! Thanks to Deadlock for introducing me to this company and tip of the cap for this video.
Gonna guess that the majority of the comments on this video are from the people who listen to The Deadlock Podcast.............................................Or maybe not brother.
Something that ressembled the XWF but that had a little more success was the WWA(World Wrestling All Stars). I believe it was from Australia and they paid a lot of big stars to wrestle there. Would love to know their short history as well.
Its so funny seeing all of the Deadlock references bc I just imagine people who don't listen to the pod reading all of them wondering what the hell these people are even talking about lol
"No more primadonna and no more politics" coming from the biggest primadonna and politicer in the industry will always be hilarious. Guess the company took Hogan's catchphrase to heart, since it didn't work for anyone brother.
I love this. I didnt even think of a foam board to keep fhe jersey wrinkle free. I got a signed Jordan jersey I am wanting to frame and bought a $200 frame and needed these tips. thanks
I went to the tapings at Universal Orlando. The same studio they filmed WCW Worldwide in. NOT the TNA Impact Zone however which was next to that studio and much bigger.
I went to the GB show it was at the Brown County Arena the 1500 must have been paid as the place was almost filled and it held about 3500 hundred peaple. It was a popular place back in the old AWA days. The only match I remember was Kid Cash vrs Josh Mathews it was a good high flying match. The crowd was very optimistic as the attitude was this could work.
I vaguely remember an infomercial by Kurt Hennig on TV about this upcoming wrestling federation. . I was actually fairly stoked about it. I knew that it wasn't really going to be a legit threat to WWE, but I lilied the idea of a new promotion with such star power....and, then? Nothing. Always wondered what had happened. Well, now, I guess I know.
This is all interesting and all, but WHY would Ric Flair "agree to work with Hogan again?" He wasn't sick of jobbing to him EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY WORKED already? Love Ric, top 5 for sure, but dude is just a poor decision maker.
They were scheduled to be in Toledo. They ran one infomercial for the show. Just one and it was before the soap operas started. They hyped it up for that half a hour and then nothing.
