on the other hand, the fact that this comment implies that there's seemingly a group of people that are able to do this makes me feel way worse about my poor financial quantities, lol
Any excuse to buy new gear is a good excuse even if the excuse is having one to many. Besides, we are improving someone's financial situation by making the correct choice.
Such an amazing artist. Really unique tones and style as a guitarist and a really great songwriter that makes more abstract and challenging music catchy like few others have been able to do.
louderthangod honestly, i love her music, but its not challenging at all. she uses weird noises, etc., but all of her songs follow a very predictable verse chorus verse structure that leaves me wanting more and wishing she were more daring in her approach. would love to see her ditch the guitar and embrace electronic music...
Russell Carstens Making those tones catchy while still neatly fitting into pop is challenging as fuck. As to your second point why give up the guitar? With a lot of her stuff it's hard to tell what is a guitar and what is a synth. I think she likes the guitar as an interface into a lot of pedals and I personally appreciate that she isn't going more synthetic like the masses are.
louderthangod I agree, idk about the song structure but I find her writing and playing inspirational. I'm happy to see her playing the guitar... but maybe that's because I play the guitar. And as for her music, I love her style, I would likely be sad if she went to edm.
Annie is the best in every way! I'm so happy to be alive at the same time as she is doing her thing. And her signature guitar is so damn gorgeous and great! And this isn't just me talking but also the guitardudebro blogs have given it excellent reviews!Annie Clark is my guitar hero! (And her guitar heroes are great too!)
I don't know - she looked pretty doe-eyed, after that whole "I tried to buy that guitar back for you"/look-away to talk about EB guitars thing ... ... Wonder if he scored with that ... ...
Fripp, Belew and Ribot. Great list of influences. No wonder I like Guitar playing style. It's the kind of guitar playing that's not trying to show off anything it's just there to be part of the song and enhance it greatly. There is no a 3 minute guitar solo or shredding instead it can be a very simple part that serves the song very well.
The funny thing is about people saying, "rock is dead", is that the local venue in Pensacola, FL (Vinyl), has 98% rock bands. Every once in a while there's a hip-hop act. But, recently saw Big Head Todd and Monsters there and met two women who were in their 30's that loved the 90s music. And there were people in there 20s there too. Really appreciate Annie Clark. She has given me hope for new music. And I hope she inspires a whole new generation of guitar players. The hip-hop scene is so ridiculous, it just seems dishonest and more about ego. Where s\Annie playing the hell out of guitar is more honest as you can tell she loves making music.
The first song I heard from her was Birth In Reverse and I was honestly blown away with her playing, Clark is a great guitar player and her the design of her MusicMan signature model looks really unique and also cool as hell. Also I’m not gonna lie, she’s also pretty as well
And shes soo right about the future, i run my guitar through ableton and sample it as midi and play it on pads and i also love her use of bitcrushery raw squishy sounds. Shes ahead of the curve by 10 miles compared to most other players
Judging by her last 2 albums, I assume she uses a lot of fuzz pedals, which explains why she bought the Reznor Kemper. NIN uses a lot of fuzz especially on The Slip, Year Zero and With Teeth. I like the black St.V model.
I've really been into wood stained guitars recently and am happy to see the tobacco burst, but I'd really like one without a burst, just a dark, possibly reddish tint. Not that it matters at the moment since I don't have that much I could spend. :(
I'm in the market for a new guitar, and I've been thinking I want to go wild for this one. Something not Fender or Gibson or any of their offshoots. I've been getting more and more interested by this signature guitar, but I'm having a hard time pinning down where it fits in terms of its style expertise. I mean, Les Paul or SG for heavier stuff (speaking very stereotypically), Strat for sparkly cleans, Jag for fuzzy stuff. Where does the St. Vincent signature shine best?
FacePoppies Yeah, I like this guitar. But that's one of the things I dislike about this guitar. I've never been into the triple humbucker layout. Even with minibuckers it's a middling sound-wise like you say. Also the headstock should also match the abstract body.
love her music so much, her use of off kilter sounds in pop compositions is inspirational and so unique. Hate to use this to shamelessly plug my own music, but what's a boy to do? (I guess not plugging my own music, but oh well), so here's a remix I made of her song I Prefer Your Love from her last album: soundcloud.com/pie-are-squared/st-vincent-prefer-your-love-pie-are-squared-remix
what song does she play gutar on? . . is she like the runaways-lita ford? or iron maidens? . . she is so badass with her sexuality and artistry! . . like donna summer, yaz, madonna, byork, etc!
I'm not trolling but I've never actually seen her play anything. I mean just pick up a regular guitar and play something. I watched this video to see if she would play and no surprise nope. she talks about playing, It seems like every interviewer has to tell her how great at guitar she is. I seen music videos that were meant to look like live playing. does footage of her plugged into an amp play a song even exist?
Randy Vargas concert videos have backing tracks, keyboards, other musicians on and off stage. I could find a concert video of britney spears shredding. I mean Annie Clarke (the guitar goddess) playing the guitar. this shouldn't be that hard. but you will not be able to do it. waiting for you're excuse about guitar being objective or some crap.
Lol my excuse? I wasn't trying to fight or anything, I was genuinely asking if you'd wanna see one. Also she's not really a shredder at all, she does cool work with pedals though
Randy Vargas Fair enough.and if i seem angry it's because I clicked on of her videos and now she fills my recommended videos list. it's not personal. she does claim to be a shredder though. she claims to be very into rock and metal guitar. I never saw any evidence of that. also I love guitar effects but making cool sounds isn't playing guitar cause frankly anybody can do that. still show me a video of her playing the guitar through an amp with a bunch of pedals love to see it.
R. Pneumo I really didn't like it much at all in the beginning.. at first I was watching just because of her interesting stage show no I'm glad I kept watching because now I love her music! I've been learning some of the songs which makes me appreciate her originality all the more. :)
In my opinion Annie is a great artist/performer antipopbutpop fuzzy sounding talented person, with very good voice but not a great guitarist.. who will inspire me to buy her guitars. She should start developing fuzz ambient guitar effects or weird sounding grooveboxes.
zambination11 What people all telling what she should do. Like they cant accept her arts like it is. Like they feel the urge to shape her for their needs. Take it or leave it.
I'm not trolling but I've never actually seen her play anything. I mean just pick up a regular guitar and play something. She's is fun to listen to but I wonder how many people picked up that she is taking the piss? The old double-negative ploy... too cool for school so I will rip the piss out of the whole music retail industry ... EXCELLENT ;-)
I respect her sexuality but as a straight man it pains me to know she probably isn't into guys haha. it's all good though, lovely girl and equality all that shot is lovely too. peace
she may be the biggest con music has seen in awhile. absolutely devoid of anything original or creative, not to mention annoying and pretentious, which would be fine if she had musical product to back it up. Truly....there is nothing there but formless doodling
The fact that Annie Clark also drunkenly buys guitars on Reverb makes me feel way better about my poor financial decisions |m|
lol... i hear ya
on the other hand, the fact that this comment implies that there's seemingly a group of people that are able to do this makes me feel way worse about my poor financial quantities, lol
Credit cards are a wonderful/terrible thing.
Saam I don’t buy that story because I’ve only ever seen her use either the Harmony Bobcat or her signature.
Any excuse to buy new gear is a good excuse even if the excuse is having one to many. Besides, we are improving someone's financial situation by making the correct choice.
This guitar is one of the coolest looking guitars of the last few decades. That black on black on is amazing.

Annie is awesome!!!
I love her so much!!!
She has the best musical influences. Makes me happy someone cutting the popular circuit is coming from the Crimson, Lounge Lizards school
Annie Clark is my hero, I wasn't sold though on her guitar until I saw the Black on Black one.
The10000lbGorilla That thing is tha' bizzness!!
I'm absolutely fascinated by this woman
Annie is the best in every way! I'm so happy to be alive at the same time as she is doing her thing. And her signature guitar is so damn gorgeous and great! This guy is mad trying to catch and Annie not having it. "Deep cut...not that deep". Love her.
I don't know - she looked pretty doe-eyed, after that whole "I tried to buy that guitar back for you"/look-away to talk about EB guitars thing ... ... Wonder if he scored with that ... ...
i thought shes gay, so... ;)
If I didn't love her music; if I didn't love her looks, I would love her for her intelligence.
Fripp, Belew and Ribot. Great list of influences. No wonder I like Guitar playing style. Annie Clark is excellent! Fantastic interview Reverb
IMO, on of the best artists of the XXI century.
Saw Belew play with Bowie at the Olympic Stadium in Stockholm, Sweden in 1990... AMAZING.
Hell yeah, Marc Ribot!
Fitting avatar is fitting.
the fucking greatest
Well, she got me now
love her
I found her maybe 10 years ago. She's my new music love - just when I thought good music was gone.
The funny thing is about people saying, "rock is dead", is that the local venue in Pensacola, FL (Vinyl), has 98% rock bands. Every once in a while there's a hip-hop act. Love the all white, gorgeous!
Kinda like a hendrix guitar from 2050
Fantastic piece of work, this interview.
Goddd annie is my hero! She even name dropped Fripp! Gah!
And shes soo right about the future, i run my guitar through ableton and sample it as midi and play it on pads and i also love her use of bitcrushery raw squishy sounds. Shes ahead of the curve by 10 miles compared to most other players
Jim form Reverb does a pretty great interview. Nice job!
I was a big fan of Jim's band Brighton PA. Great guitar player. Wish they were still playing.
Judging by her last 2 albums, I assume she uses a lot of fuzz pedals, which explains why she bought the Reznor Kemper. NIN uses a lot of fuzz especially on The Slip, Year Zero and With Teeth. I like the black St.V model.
I believe she has a Fuzz Factory, which makes sense if you listen to her Strange Mercy album.
Finally an interviewer with good questions yay
Great interview. Love the white St Vincent Music Man, it looks fantastic
I have no clue what any of that stuff is but I like the enthusiasm/ passion
the flat black was cool. I'd jam it 👍
God she's so amazing!!!
I've really been into wood stained guitars recently and am happy to see the tobacco burst, but I'd really like one without a burst, just a dark, possibly reddish tint. Not that it matters at the moment since I don't have that much I could spend. :(

Fripp, Belew, Ribot. That's all.
Fripp and Belew!!! fuck ya respect
annie clark, love of my life
also, marc ribot's los cubanos postizos is a masterpiece
I like your signature guitars.
so disappointed I didn't go this year :/ wouldn't be fun without my dad though
EB should "Frankenstein" one of Annie's models after that story. Then she should cover The New York Dolls "Frankenstein" with that guitar.
mdub048 This. YES!!
I love her music and goddamn is she fine. And curses like a sailor. My kinda gal.
I fuckin love you Annie.
Does she reference Ballou as in Kurt Ballou of Converge fame as an influence? If so, I dig her even more.
I think she meant Adrian Belew who also played in King Crimson
Jeeps, here's me thinking she meant the bear out of the jungle book.
She's a talented musician, and I have listened to her for years. I looked at her twitter today... Y'all pray for her.
why does that need prayer? fuck Trump.
love her music so much, her use of off kilter sounds in pop compositions is inspirational and so unique. Hate to use this to shamelessly plug my own music, but what's a boy to do? She is freakin awesome XD
"The Nine Inch Nails"
"David Lynch, is that you?"
“of St. Vincent.”
Such a great player. Super psyched they're continuing her run on this guitar. Gotta get my hands on one.
Idk how I would interview someone like Annie 👀💦
I would just sit there and cry 😭
And now she's joining with Vai and Malmsteen ay Vai academy.
She kinda reminds me of Elizabeth Berkley
what song does she play gutar on? . . is she like the runaways-lita ford? or iron maidens? . . she is so badass with her sexuality and artistry! . . like donna summer, yaz, madonna, byork, etc!
I would say color choices on guitar is of utmost importance
Only if you can't play it.
Annie is enchanting and mesmerising and all but is no one else bothered by that piece of gum stuck to the sole of the fellow's shoe
I bet she is an excellent knife fighter.
i see sm57 used as interviews mic i press like
She reminds me of Feist and Carina Round. She is still original.
She is cool as a fan!
would've been tight to hear some playing. seems like annie rarely plays since the signature was actually announced :-/ oh well
I'm not trolling but I've never actually seen her play anything. I mean just pick up a regular guitar and play something. bob beckey she has a lot of concert videos online, want me to link you some?
Randy Vargas
concert videos have backing tracks, keyboards, other musicians on and off stage. I could find a concert video of britney spears shredding. I mean Annie Clarke (the guitar goddess) playing the guitar. this shouldn't be that hard. but you will not be able to do it. waiting for you're excuse about guitar being objective or some crap.

She's weird and strangely sweet. I like her.
I don't like her music but I like her personality.
And the looks ;)
Love her music, "Marry Me" is one of the best debut albums of the 2000s.
R. Pneumo I really didn't like it much at all in the beginning.. at first I was watching just because of her interesting stage show no I'm glad I kept watching because now I love her music! I've been learning some of the songs which makes me appreciate her originality all the more. :)
#gumontheshoe , great interview btw!
When she said Belew I thought she said Ballou. Like Kurt Ballou. Maybe she did? all great
That makes more sense! I thought she said Ballou, but Adrian Belew fits.
T H O S E - L E G S !!! -- W O W !
dude I hope you've grown up since you posted this stupid fucking comment 11 months ago .
blue?
I think she's talking about Adrian Belew
woop
It's funny how it seems Fripp and Belew went over this guy's head.
In my opinion Annie is a great artist/performer antipopbutpop fuzzy sounding talented person, with very good voice but not a great guitarist.. who will inspire me to buy her guitars. She should start developing fuzz ambient guitar effects or weird sounding grooveboxes.

All this tech talk, sheesh... I have a hard time with my Fender floor!!!
WHY NO BASS? THAT WOULD KILLLLLL, PLEASE?
should have put "musicwoman" on the headstock
That actually would’ve been a cool touch
If only her signature guitar looked more like a 5150 Bobcat - instead of a 6 stringed coffin - Missed opportunity there !
just normal colors and finishes
Guitar is dead? Nobody at Namm should say that.
Robert Fripp is anti hero? More like pioneer.
0:23, 0:55, 0:59, 1:24, 1:43,
interviewer has gum on his shoe
......nnnnnNNNNNEEEEEEEEERD!
NERD.
Go on....
It _is_ tedious as fuck.
She's cute. I don't really care for her music, never really got what the fuss was about. But she's got personality for miles
Amazing musician, smart, sexy, cusses like a sailor. Yup, she's the complete package. Really looking forward to her new album.
I'm not trolling but I've never actually seen her play anything. I mean
just pick up a regular guitar and play something. I watched this video

is. I seen music videos that were meant to look like live playing. does

goodness she's attractive.
what a neat chick
I wouldve loved to see her catwalking some steps with this outfit
She's is fun to listen to but I wonder how many people picked up that she is taking the piss? The old double-negative ploy... too cool for school so I will rip the piss out of the whole music retail industry ... EXCELLENT ;-)
nice legs
These two should have babies
Annie, why so nervous? will you marry me?
You can't buy class
I respect her sexuality but as a straight man it pains me to know she probably isn't into guys haha. it's all good though, lovely girl and equality all that shot is lovely too. peace
she is into guys
she's into everyone
it'd be a whole lot cooler if she knew how to play
Taylor Penunuri why're u here diphthong
just callin' em how i see em, brah
she may be the biggest con music has seen in awhile. absolutely devoid of anything original or creative, not to mention annoying and pretentious, which would be fine if she had musical product to back it up. Truly....there is nothing there but formless doodling
tchwiss good job
have you even listened to her play
tchwiss I don’t know about that, her playing is pretty damn good
