      @@andrewpappas9311 Steve's is even more straightforward, though. Would probably be a 3 minute video. XD - I might be wrong and there might be something more to it, but I think it's basically just "guitar goes into SansAmp, into (now) Orange amp (I believe), into Marshall cabs with EV-speakers" and there's a compressor in there somewhere. - Not saying it's not nice to see a video of it, but just saying, it's simple.

      That guitar inspired me to get one like it. Not a Fender, but a different make that's a little more modern, yet very much like a traditional Stratocaster at the same time. - I still customize it after my preference, but after always thinking I should get a Strat since I became a fan in like 2000, but never having gotten one because I thought in the end it was "not for me", I had to finally get something similar alongside some other guitars. It ended up being one of my favorites out of the bunch I have. XD

      Yeah..I always thought that he would be one of the last guys to stick with real amps. I wonder what stages/backstage will look like in 15 or 20 years...? Like..i wonder how many young guitar players/future stars will use amps...

      @@michaelr.4878 Metallica, both James and Kirk are using the fractal axe fx3 for amp simulation. Dave, John Petrucci and Steve Vai use the fractal just for effects.The audio signal from these players is still coming from a tube preamplifier.

    • @michaelangeloh.5383
      @michaelangeloh.5383 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@alexandretonini6178 One of the keys is the whole interaction between the pre-amps and power-amps, which in Dave's case would've been the JMP-1s into the power-sections of the JCM-2000s. - I think you can hear it, to be honest. Perhaps not live (in person) as much, but recorded for sure. I mean, I could already hear something was different when they started using Blackstar-amps since like the "Final Frontier" album and I did not like it much. - Of course the regular listener won't have a clue, but since we as guitar-players and such listen to it differently, we can tell. - I especially don't like MetallicA's sound since they went digital live, cause... while it can sound great (I'm not an "against digital" guy), it seems they just don't know how to use it. Not so much James and Kirk, because they're probably helped by their techs and the Fractal people to set it all up or whatever. But just go back to when they used their tube-amps in videos from like 15-20 years ago or something (Anger and perhaps still the Magnetic tours). There's a presence to it that just makes it sound better, even if those videos and recordings are kinda crap. Their (recorded) sound today just comes across anemic and brittle, although even the drums do for some reason.
      And don't get me started on the "reliability" argument. - Angus Young still drags his old Marshall-heads along and literally gets his techs to repair them regularly as they actually fail regularly. - But more modern tube-amplifiers probably wouldn't be as fragile. - Convenience? Sure, but you're dragging along a stage and road-cases anyway and Rockstar guitar-techs are getting paid well. - That said, using entire full-sized heads just to use their power-amps like Dave did was indeed a little excessive. But I guess he had his reasons. The sound, probably.

    • @michaelangeloh.5383
      @michaelangeloh.5383 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@michaelr.4878 In a way he IS one of the last ones, because Iron Maiden is winding down and Dave is also getting older and towards the end of his career. It has just gotten to the point that they clearly don't want to bother with anything "unnecessary" anymore and streamline things a bit now that things have developed enough. - Don't get me wrong, I also didn't see Dave "go digital" considering both his roots and how long he stuck with the amplifiers he used just before this (which was about the same for roughly a quarter of a century that I could find), but it has also been clear that he's not averse to newer technology if it does what he wants it to do.
      As for how many younger players will use "real amps": Sure, fewer, because it's just more convenient and affordable to get a digital or solid-state solution, especially considering how many just want to plug into a computer and use emulation to go through flat speakers. - Not to mention that fewer people are able to buy a house that allows for making more noise, which means apartments, which means a small speakers or headphones, both for noise and space. - That said, there are also great solid-state amplifiers, there are also compact low-wattage tube-amplifiers. - Personally, even though I'm an older Millennial, I decided to go all-analog and valve, but modular and compact, like a 20W power-amp with 4 tubes in it that's smaller than a common hi-fi amplifier, but then pre-amp pedals with valves that aren't larger than 2-3 standard Boss-pedals to get different sounds or "channels" in a way.
      Most people aren't going to do that (I don't even recommend it, cause it's more of a hassle, I'm just stubborn), but I'm just saying, there's still a lot of analog/valve-based modern stuff produced today that are way more convenient than a traditional head or combo, and they often also have DI connectivity and cab-emulation built in. - So it's all becoming very "hybrid" in a way. But there's a lot of options now, which is great!

    Just came over from the bass rig video, the transition was so funny.
    Bass rig: here's a fridge rack worth of preamps, amps, converters, compressors, DI's, power amps, two 70's cabs and all of that for the stage volume.
    Then we have a tiny Tech21 that does all that on its own and sent direct out to FOH.
    Then guitars:
    Here are the old JMP1s that we don't use anymore, here's an AXE FX3 that reduced 90% of the gear's weight.

    That Pearl Seymour Duncan plate is the only reason Dave put his name on it. It may say Feder on the head but it's pretty far removed from being a Stratocaster. I remember when Dave was playing the ESPs and Adrian loves his Jackson, that looks a little like a Strat. Dave has never really stepped out of the mould when it comes to different guitar shapes, he didn't do the "Metal" thing and get an "Axe". When it comes to Heavy Metal, Fender isn't commonly used which kinda shows that Dave is more about the music than the image.

    I saw them play for the first time ( The Final Frontier tour) and he was playing a Les Paul w/ Floyd Rose.

    A lot of bands, after 40 plus years on the road, start to just go through the motions in their shows. But not Maiden. After 40 plus years on the road, they are playing better than ever and putting on even better shows than in years past. A testament to their dedication to the music of Iron Maiden and their fans. Doubt you will ever see another band who has reached the level of Iron Maiden despite the lack of "press" and support from radio.

    That was awesome. Anyway you guys would think about selling the presets on the Fractal? Would love an Iron Maiden Fractal Preset pack and I don’t even own a fractal.
    Really appreciate the look at the rig. The guitars are beautiful. Love the new #1.

    what's the advantage of the fractal if it's just modeling the real jmp-1? also curious why maiden jumps back and forth from the rack marshall power amps and using the effects return of a marshall head (something I always thought was a bit odd given they are bulkier)

    Iron maiden were the only ones using tubes.... Dave's sound was a marshal preamp and the marshal processor was truly amazing. Now more and more digital equipment is replacing the lamp, alas, time does not stand still. Following metallica, maidens switched to digital
