For removing the strut from the knuckle, you can put the bolt in the opposite way (where the threaded hole is) and put a piece of metal in the gap (I used a thick putty knife) and screw the bolt into it. This will separate it and the strut just falls right out. Useful for reassembly too.
Heh Brad, I like your video, just want to add an alternative method to get the inner bearing ring off the hub, use a propane torch to heat up thee ring, it will expand and slide right off. Cheers! Jim
perfect... one question. what is the way of the bearing face to put it righ to make the speed sensor work . the bearing have 2 face one wiht metal and the other one have some kind of magnet like plastic seal.....
Thanks for this video my dude. About to attempt this myself in the next few weeks. Also saw one of your comments saying you’re from Kalamazoo, I’ll be there Memorial Day weekend for my son’s soccer tournament (from far northwest burbs of Chicago). Cheers!
@alreedyalrighty588 depending on where you live, the cv axle can be a bear removing from the bearing. If you have to hit it with a hammer, use a punch chisel and it'll fit inside the little indent on the tip of the cv axle. This will keep from messing up your threads. When you do strike it with a hammer and chisel, make sure the axle nut is screwed on a few threads to protect them from your hammer. If you mess up the cv axle threads it's a lot more work to fix. Let me know if you have any issues!
@@bobaganoosh88 cv axle came out no problem with the back end of a small ball peen hammer and a few blows with a heavy hammer. It wasn't rusty. The worst was trying to get the lower ball joint stud out.
Great video man I’m not even a mechanic and I enjoyed it! I have that car 2018 and it makes him clicking and grinding on one side more when it’s heated up after driving a while. Wondering if wheel bearings or CV axle? Based on this it could very well be the bearings I had the same car exactly, but a different one, because it’s a company car, and it had the same problem, but on the passenger side instead of the driver side, call mother, clicking, and grinding I mean. So that’s why I was interested. I noticed all the comments about the music and normally that would bug me too, but I was so engrossed in watching what you were doing. I really didn’t even notice it!
It was cheaper and easier for me to buy two knuckles with bearings already pressed in that removing them. I bought two new knuckles as a pair for a 2012 for $195 bucks
Where did you get the whole bearing assemblies with the hub? I've checked rock auto and other retailers and cannot find any fronts. Looking for a 2013 escape 2.0.
@@bobaganoosh88 realized that not long after I posted this. Can’t find loaded knuckles anywhere. Expensive on the fronts anyways. Guess I’ll just get the bearing for $40 and say goodbye to 5 hours of my life. God I love Michigan.

take the knuckle off and take it to a pep boys or something and theyll press it out and in for you for about 50 bucks. some parts stores do it too. old school ones.

Omg what a good idea 👍🏻
Brilliant plus no damage to anything!
Yes, great additional tip! Thanks
good video but the background music is totally distracting need to edit that out
Thanks, I definitely won't be attempting this lol
great video with lots of VALUABLE tips. Wished I had known this before I changed the last front wheel bearing.

What I usually do is look at the old bearing and put it in the same way. I have this same issue and usually that's how I figure it out.

Some parts sites say you need two bearings. I'm assuming you only need one bearing assembly for each wheel?
Yes some places will say they need to do both on the axle but if ones bad you can change just the one bad one.
@@bobaganoosh88 Thanks! and thanks for the video. My holiday weekend job.

You shouldn't need one after this, no.
Hey! Great video! How much would this cost in a mechanic shop?
250 -550
Great question!
Amazing. Someon who knows how to make a video without all the fluff. EXCELLENT!! Thanks posting.

@herb414 this is a press in style so it needs to be pressed in unless you buy the knuckle with the bearing pressed in it already.

What is the total time for this repair?

Buy a press at harbor freight and still save money and you have for next time.
Tool rental program at Auto Zone. You buy a used tool and then return it. They know that’s what you will do but they allow it to earn your business.
