Yeah, you can use the Super guide to skip the points on any level, essentially bringing the total number of points down to 0 for every level. Only downside is that you can't collect the star coins with the super guide. This does trivialize a large portion of the game and most would call it a cheap workaround but it does lower the total point count.
Maybe weird question: since the completion time for each level is basically already set because of the 0 second requirement, wouldn't you theoretically be able to save some frames by waiting before entering pipes in some levels, considering how the timer works with screen transitions? I'm basing this on watching the video and my knowledge of SMB so it may be wrong, but: when you enter a pipe, no matter how far into the in-game second you are, the second starts again from the top after the screen transition. So, let's say the fastest possible completion of the first part of a level has you enter a pipe 80% into second 200. If the level started at 500, and only has one screen transition, it means you spent seconds 500 through 201 plus 80% of 200, then 200 again, for a total of 500.8 in-game seconds. However, if you instead wait until the first frame of second 199, you only spend 500 through 200, then 199~1 plus one frame, for a total of 500 and one frame. So there are a few possibilities: 1. This doesn't actually save any time (is there a framerule-like mechanic in this game?) 2. It's something you haven't considered (or you did and I just didn't notice somehow) 3. I misunderstand how the timer works Either way, I also want to say: awesome work! This is an awesome video to watch
That's a good idea! However, the in-game timer in this game doesn't work the same way as it does in the original SMB. The in-game timer is preserved between rooms and won't automatically decrement when you exit the pipe. If the timer did work like in SMB then you're right; it would actually save time to enter the pipe at the beginning of the second. As far as I'm aware, there's no way to speed up the in-game timer at all. Also, it turns out that there is no framerule-like mechanic in this game so every frame saved in a level counts. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I can't believe it's been 3 years already 🙃
well, each level completion (except 8-A and 8-C) is frame-perfect: 1 frame earlier, and you get 50 points from the timer; 1 frame later, and time's up (also if you get the 000 frame in multiplayer the game softlocks)
Hey- Is there any reason why you can’t wait for the timer to hit 000 in the final level like in the other levels? Wouldn’t waiting a bit longer make it 29050?

You can check the score at the end of each level and the score at the beginning of the next level and confirm they are the same for every level. It took over an hour to record and the video would be a lot of standing around waiting for the timer if I didn't cut the footage.

Hitting the switch the same frame the timer hits 000 will result in Mario getting 8000 points from the switch but then immediately dying.

Same as the normal amount, killing enemies with fire does the same amount of damage as stomping on them.

Because if they didn't, 1000 points would have been awarded upon touching the flagpole since all enemies on screen when ending a level gives points.
