So a person shouldn't have 1 kid? And get financial help from the government when the government is going to profit on That kid in the future? It's an investment for the government at that point. I understand the people you are talking about, but it can be an incredibly emotional decision on some people to abort a pregnancy as well. It isn't as cut and dry as every single guy in his 20s-30s tries to make it seem. They are incredibly young and the Dad will be there for that kid for life. The Mom has a lot of maturing ahead of her because this sidetracked her professional ambitions if she had them by a lot. Plus she's younger than him and new mothers that are below let's say 25-30 years old generally have an increased chance of suicidal thoughts and emotional and mental health problems. The way she said it is infuriating because of her ignorance though. Financially it's an investment by the government back into the working class. Obviously there are negligent or abusive parents out there that need to be out of their kid's life or not exist at all.
I watched this episode with my 15 yr old son. I paused many times to discuss why it's important to graduate high school, marry someone you know, the responsibility of bringing not just 1 but multiple kids in the word, etc... this couple just finds everything funny.
My dad always told us to never spend all your money. But also told us that if you have a nice car... It can get stolen or totalled on a crash on the spot and you have nothing. You can have a great house, and a tornado, a flood, a fire can destroy it and leave you with empty hands on the spot. But whatever you get on your head "they" will never be able to take it, so get an education, with an education a nice job to pay for that nice home, then find the right girl, marry, ensure you can support your family and THEN have your children.
I recognize the generational echos of these choices. My mom got pregnant at 19. My sister got pregnant at 19. I've always hated this argument. I've heard it from several people. If you have your baby at 32, you'll be 50 when they graduate high school. If you're physically fit & active, at 45 you can run marathons. You can definitely keep up with your kid so long as you take care of yourself. My parents are in their mid-50s. They keep up fine. My sister's in-laws are in their 60s. They run marathons & jump out of airplanes. Take care of yourself & you'll be fine.
I appreciate Caleb always calling people out for having kids and being in financial holes. Too many people think all a kid needs is love -NO. Kids need and deserve financial stability. If a couple is broke and not financially literate, it will trickle into all areas of life and be chaos
Its a mix of both. A lot of kids from "rich" parents don't turn out right either. Raising children is very complex and is a balance act between love, education, and finances and without the right about of each its gonna not work out.

There is nothing wrong with being poor. It is not a moral failing. Problems arise when you are poor, yet you act as if you have money. It's delusional, it's dishonest, it's unrealistic.
The thing is, in America being poor is literally equated with Shame, Humiliation, and Inferiority. We are so hyper capitalistic, consumerist, and obsessed with material things that there simply are no other socially acceptable life paths. Worse yet, what most college educated Americans consider to be a middle class lifestyle (to which they are unquestionably entitled) requires at least a $1 million net worth. And even though we have more net worth millionaire households than ever in this country, they are still the top 25%. So you have most people stretching to live what is realistically a decidedly upper middle class lifestyle but they are only making lower middle to middle incomes. At best. The part they fail to realize is with government assistance, it is a complicated trap. The second one of them makes “decent” money (not what society seems decent, it’s deemed by the government and its crap) they’ll no longer be eligible for assistance. Since neither of them qualify for jobs that pay a household sustainable wage, they’ll be forced to either intentionally take low paying jobs to keep assistance or be forced to stretch basically poverty income for a household of 3-4.
Exactly. I don’t know why we incentivize having kids especially for poor people (of which I am included.). Hot take maybe: we should expect people to be more responsible and whatever happens happens. Worse yet, what most college educated Americans consider to be a middle class lifestyle (to which they are unquestionably entitled) requires at least a $1 million net worth. As an European this show is insane. What shocks me the most is how much financial responsibility is expected from very young people.
At 21 they have car loans, student debt, a credit card or two, need to shop health insurance and are expected to start their retirement savings.
Dude, at 21 I just commuted by public transport, university education was completely free of charge. We bought whatever we could afford with money in our pockets, if that meant a week on only hash browns and tap water - well, that was that.
I have NEVER been in debt. My culture never revolved around credit and outside of morgage it is not as encouraged as I feel it is in the US.
Yes, exactly my thoughts. In Europe, we only use mortgage and car loans and that is it mostly (and after at least 25 or 30 years old if not later, especially a car because until you are stable enough, you usually just drive an old 2001 banger). Almost no one has a credit card, and if they do, they do not even know the pin code or where the physical card is because they are scared they will burn their hands if they use it lol. Where I live specifically, those are even looked down upon as well, everyone is kinda "scared" of getting one, so, yeah, complete insanity. Once I bought a washing machine on a 6-month interest free plan thingy sor of thing and I was going mad until I paid it off 🤣
American here and some of that is just them being irresponsible. I didn't have a car loan or credit cards at that age (I've actually never had either of those and I'm 42). I was paying student loans but I had those paid off in 7 years. These two ate just idiots.
Lots changes when you have a child
@@krn2683 well, I can't be sure, since I don't live in the US, but I feel that the ultracapitalistic culture supports this behaviour.
In Europe we don't get rewards or extra miles by using a credit card.
People in Europe are as irresponsible as people in the US. We just don't get that much encouragement to fall in debt.
You don't leave a hospital with a bill, so no debt here. Want to have a PhD? Free, so no debt here. Want a job? Cool, use public transport, even some of that is free.
In the US, when you are sick - medical debt. Want education - student loans. Want a job - need a car, so get a car loan.
No matter where you go, you either need money, or debt.
To each their own, it is set up like that and if you like it - perfect, you live in a perfect place for you. I'm not even criticizing it, I am just suprised. And extremely happy nobody sat me down as a 18 year old and told me I either get a huge loan (the repercussions of which I can't fully understand at 18 unless someone older and responsible coaches me) or can't pursue higher education.
Most of the time people i know who use credit card is for like expensive thing so there is the security if something happens they get the money back.
