Thats a trauma response. That prob means in her life, people asked for things after giving her things. I have that as well. My mom gives but then expects things for giving. So it goes beyond that into my dating and friendships as well. If rather not owe anyone.

Why would you mock her for thinking she can’t get scholarships because she’s white? It’s kinda ridiculous because her being a woman would offset that anyway. But there is clearly a misconception among many people that makes them not even try. Her having misinformation does not require a moral judgement. I’ve known black people that held the same perception. There are a lot of people that don’t even try because of what their parents or media have told them. I’m actually shocked it’s that high. That’s kind of too high imo. And her misconception kinda makes sense when you see how our government is dealing with these floods…same way they did Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. No need to answer. Love the program. 👍

Scholarships for med school are more difficult to get compared to undergrad scholarships. Med schools usually give scholarships to a few students per class. Full ride scholarships for med school are rare and they usually require the student to do a PhD along with an M.D. resulting in adding an extra 2-3 years of schooling. A friend of mine had incredible credentials (high MCAT, years of clinical experience, ivy league undergrad). He did get a scholarship but still has to take out student loans for med school.

Also Caleb has no perspective on what it's liked to be a woman especially right now dating. He has no idea how coercion leads to rape and also how it's safer for women to pay because it takes away the sense of entitlement. I think the jokes he made about it were really insensitive. He thinks just because he would never do that, that it's not super common. It IS super common for men to expect and pressure you for sex if they pay for dinner and some take it so far as to take what they deserve without consent. He also doesn't understand how insecure men get when they are rejected, so saying no to a ,an is actually dangerous in itself sometimes.

You go in as an O-3, but get medical specialty bonuses. He did a few years active duty, floating around the world on a huge ship, in a job with probably less risk than most cab drivers face, then transferred to a civilian hospital while still collecting Navy Reserve officer money. To earn a full ride scholarship, be an athlete, triple major with a close to 4.0 gpa, and being able to contribute any amount of research to be on a scientific paper all in four years of undergrad is no joke. She’s clearly willing and able to work hard and she can clearly pick up concepts that she is taught, it’s just so unfortunate how she hasn’t taken steps to educate herself about debt and has parents that failed her in this respect. So with the right education about money and separating her finances from her irresponsible parents, she’ll definitely be successful.

Luckily my mum is smart and hates credit cards unless they're used smartly
I did just choose a degree (biology) and left 5 months later because I was worried it'd just lead to needing more school, and it felt very unfocused

Okay, this has been a trend with Caleb's guests lately. This woman doesn't need finance advice, she needs therapy. She's got a complex about feeling looked down on. Won't let anyone else pay for her because she thinks that they'll judge her, thinks that she can't get scholarships because she's a white woman, wants to join the military and also do medical school at the same time, knows she spends more than she makes but feels like she can't change, ect. And well, that makes some sense she has it, if her father literally stole her money basically by opening credit cards and loans in her name. But that's not a 'your financial choices are extremely bad' as much as a 'you need therapy to change your emotional behavior and outlook to avoid making the same choices.' She's in her own way.

I know this is taboo but a lot of doctors (my doctors) and medical students (uni peers) have superiority complex, seems like she has the opposite and overcompensates. Like you said, 1) the need to pay for someone’s food despite not being able to afford it to keep up appearances 2)buying giftS for non-special occasions despite being in debt. Yes she doesn’t spend a lot by ca standard, she is well informed and overestimated her spending to keep herself in check, but i have a feeling she spends more for appearances (to appear middle class) than on herself.
People from actual financially secure backgrounds feel more comfortable bragging about frugality because they know people from similar backgrounds have the same views towards money and can effortlessly show receipts (whip out lv wallet, prada handbag, yearly european holidays). But people who views others as more financially secure with an inferiority complex like hers needs to project that they are able by doing what she’s doing.
She is a capable woman, just one with deep insecurities.

Sometimes to even apply to “asian grants” or “hispanic scholarship XYZ” even if we weren’t a member of those groups cuz nobody was applying so they would just give it to whoever applied regardless of what race they were.

Went into $144k in debt for college, but paid all of it off during the pandemic. I’m happy for anyone that’s able to get a scholarship and not get into debt and happy for everyone that pays off their loans. Student loan debt is a pain for sure.

Omg wait why is she not working in biotech?!?! I work in biotech in the CA bay area, with her degrees she could definitely be making 60-70-80k as a starting position, the market is a little tough right now but damn, contracts are so popular right now so she could at least make good money while figuring out med school.

i thought the same!! she has great degrees, not in california but pretty much every other state she could be a med lab tech easy, im in nj they make upwards ($30/hr honestly probably more)

LITERALLY, she's definitely doing something wrong... I work in the central valley (originally from the bay) but our company had a testing contract with a pharmaceutical company recently for some equipment and they had been looking for biotech related degree's for hiring more recently... Something doesn't make sense here with her having all these degrees and no well paying job. She could even maybe be an engineering tech for a pharmaceutical or something?!?

She can't live at home if she does that.

I think it's a combo of 1) she didnt want to work a lot because she was studying for the MCAT, which she kept failing, and she says she needs hours working with patients in person. Her 4 hour a day CNA job gave her loads of time (to study and soend money) and one on one paitent experience. I don't think she studied as much as she should have, or she isn't as smart as everyone says she is, because that score was low and she took the test 3-4 times.
My cousin in law's daughter spent the end of last year applying to PA schools. She was told her first year of college to go to medical school or PA school etc, she needed to show loads of hours spent working with patients in a medical field--there was a target amount to aim for. They suggested everyone wanting to go on to do something like PA take the time to get a CNA or something and start working a few hours a week to build that resume up. The cousin's daughter chose to become a phlebotomist and work 10-15 hours a week minimum in a lab for most of her undergrad. She got her hours and earned money so she could pay her way (somewhat). She got accepted for next fall.

Thing was she was lacking clinical experience ( most med school expect to see their students having some clin experience)and also multiple low retakes on the mcat is super bad. Any other job would've been monetarily good but terrible for her app.

This girl graduated High School. Went to college. Going back to college. And, has no concept of money. America should be ashamed. Using school as a daycare, kids locked up for 8+ hours a day and end up with ZERO life skills. No budgeting, no sewing, no cooking, no wood shop, no investing, most can barely read nowadays, BUT they probably told you how to use a calculator…SHAME!

RN here, there isn’t a hospital in the world that wasn’t looking for workers during Covid. There’s a reason everyone started travel nursing during Covid.
