Most of the music tracks in Unreal Tournament pumps me up for fast-paced deathmatch gunfights... but this one is more or less the exact opposite and makes me instead want to explore the mysterious planet that is Lava Giant, all while taking my time and ignoring the carnage that’s happening around me as people get their heads shot off by snipers, obliterated by Flak Cannons or pushed into the lava with shock rifles. And i love it for it, it calms your senses.
Better sooner rather than later. I'd play Quake Champions, but its too lootbox oriented to be considered Quake. And almost everything else is some form of Fortnite/PUBG/Overwatch clone.
I'm afraid it won't sound as awesome, because now they are going to use modern music editors, which do not sound as awesome as UMX tracker instruments. But lets hope for the best.
Very few people realize just how masterfully crafted these tracks are, not only for the listener, but also the player. Like most ut99 tracks, this one starts slow and gradually picks up. The player is still usually in base gearing up at this time. This track was made for lava giant, and about a minute in is when the track picks up, this is usually when the enemy gets first spotted by the player. Snipers and shock rifles start going off. Then towards the middle it slows down again. Usually the player is picking up the enemy flag or just killed or got killed by the initial encounter at this point.
Nuance like this is why UT 99 will always be the GOAT of shooter and game design. It was definitely a special time back then for thoughtfulness and innovation in games.
