When i am hearing the first couple of notes of this track i am immediately catapulted back in time to the year 2000. Playing Unreal Tournament CTF with my friends on Facing Worlds at small, improvised LAN parties in someone's basement, bed room or even community hall. This was the pre flat-screen era. So we had to carry these humongous CRTs up and down stairs. It was tedious but well worth it.

Can you imagine Creating a song with that software? You get like 5 or 6 parameters per note to tweak and that's it. Effects channels? Side chaining? Mastering channel? WTF are those things? No this is tracker music! I tried using it years ago and actually had some success pulling out some drum parts to use in my own songs on another platform, but man, those guys had a tough job! lol
Yeah using trackers is a brutal thing. I tried early on when learning to make music but I found it so fucking cumbersome, and when I found Fruity Loops I was actually able to progress to making whole tracks.

Some CD-ROM games at the time encoded their soundtrack as audio CD tracks on the game disc, so you would have the disc inserted and spinning to hear music in-game. I remember Warcraft 2 and Age of Kings being like that. One could stick the game disc in a regular stereo CD player and hear the soundtrack. Games with tracker music (such as UT) represented a different approach, where the game data would include the samples and sequences needed to reproduce the composition.

What i really like about this specific upload is how it loops perfectly with the TH-cam's built-in loop feature, could listen to it for hours without noticing any pauses.
I played facing worlds so many times with this in the background. When I started exploring music more I explored Aphex, Squarepusher but also some throwbacks to Bukem and other drum&bass artists. Anyway, I always listened to HipHop so the Amen break always sounded familiar. Hell, it even (still) gets used in commercials nowadays. But for me this is the quintessential drum and bass track just because I spent so much time fragging AIs with a sniper on facing. Dude is probably Dutch too, never knew that.
Let me spread the news: Epic gave the OldUnreal folks permission to provide installers for Unreal Tournament as well as Unreal Gold after they delisted both games last year. :)
This track just gives me chills. When me and my friends would play death match at Spacenoxx we would sometimes just stand still peacefully and stare off into space. This track encapsulates space and the unknown to me.
The neat thing about tracker music is that, since you only really need the sample data and the sequence data, a whole album's worth of music can fit into only a few megabytes, as long as they use the same set of samples. Most lossless audio formats, such as CD-quality audio, take up way more space since they store the raw sample data for the whole song in a single chunk. Of course nowadays this size advantage doesn't matter, even MicroSD cards can typically come in 128 gigabyte sizes for less than 50 dollars.
true but tracker music and other none MP3. .OGG music track can be edit mid play. Like you can have a track playing that change depending on whats happening. Player goes under 50% HP the drums stops or they change pattern. maybe a secondary instrument changes depending on who is your co pilot. or okey this can be done whit MP3 the speed change when the boss drops bellove 30% or active some ability. maybe the drum beat skips a beat when ever you get hit by something.

Amazing piece of music, so iconic. Id like to ask for a bit of help. There was a remix of Foregone destruction on TH-cam made by some guy. It had a snowy background with projecting logo in the middle, vibrating in the beat of the tune. Now its gone, the author deleted it or closed his channel, and i cant find it anywhere. Michael Van Der Bos even commented on that video, complimenting the author for making a great remix. Does anyone perhaps have that version, or know where to find it online, or who the author was? Sounds like a sinewave with either a trianglewave or squarewave on a low level to give it a bit more character. Add a highcut with a filter and put on some reverb. The emphasis is on the sinewave so don't go overboard with the other. Just add it in a little bit.

it is so good not a beat too many or too little. and its layered composition and how it takes your emotions and swings with them. its so good

If you use software like OpenMPT, you'll see that the original UMX format is just another Tracker format. But it is proprietary to the Unreal engine.
Actually kind of better than OpenMPT because it not only shows the note code but also what samples are being used in realtime

So I assume it's played out in a similar format in the UT engine. Meaning that you could convert it to play in Schism Tracker
If I recall correctly, the files are stored as .it files (Impulse Tracker). I remember also playing it on the Impulse Tracker back then. Good times.
