Yeah, at least he's honest about it!! Most people just lie & say yep I'm gonna restore them all, instead the junk man drags them away when the owner dies.
@@rogergoodman8665 I chased a car for about 20 years, is it in a garage with no doors on it, you could see it from the road and it was covered with dust you couldn't even see in the glass the dust was so thick. I stopped in a few times he wouldn't sell he said he was leaving it to his grandson. A few months ago I was on TH-cam and a video comes up, it was that car,! I made a few phone calls and found out that he had passed away and the grandson sold the car. Pretty much dirt cheap from what I understand. And considering they only made 161 of these vehicles I was so sick to my stomach. But I knew it would happen!
@@davedave2882 yeah there was an old guy out here in Gloucester Virginia that had a red '71 Duster 340 just rotting away in his front yard since the mid 80s. And it was loaded with all the factory goodies the dual hood scoops..... Rear spoiler.... everything! It was a really complete car, and relatively solid. And the dude would never ever sell it. 🤦♀️ Well he died a couple years ago and all of the cars he had in his yard got towed away and I have no idea what happened to the Duster. I can only hope that whatever towing company got a hold of it knew what it was and didn't send it to the crusher. It's just fucking sad 🤦♀️
I tried to buy a 1965 Skylark GranSport from a widower. She refused, I came by many times offering her a bit more each time. It had been sitting outside for 10 years. I found out a few months later she sold it to a salvage yard. I think some people who will never restore their car don't want someone else to restore it either. It's the "If I can't have it, nobody can" attitude.
Wow! what a collection we were lucky enough to see, Tom. I never knew that Ford sold their little 300E vans in the US. In the UK, their commercial vehicles were branded as 'Thames', not Ford. The factory at Dagenham was on the north bank of the River Thames, hence the name. The bezels on the front are a bit posh for the van - probably came from an Anglia or Prefect car. I guess it had a bit more power than the original 1172cc side valve engine! Thanks for this and all the other videos.
I know these guys will never sell their cars but just imagine what they could have if they were willing to sell some cars to pay for restoration of other cars. Dude's got 80 cars, if he sold 50 of them could easily pay for full restorations of at least 10.
Some folks just like to see them saved. Can't blame them for thinking that way. But I agree. I would rather have a vehicle that runs and drives and I can enjoy, than have 80 cars that I can look at like they are museum pieces.
Back in the late 70s my dad had a used car lot. He had a 65 Dart that he was going to repaint. Had it all sanded down. A old fellow wanted to buy it, but dad said he had to paint it first. The ol guy said he would paint it himself, so dad sold it to him. He never did paint it. The car turned brown with surface rust.
I wonder what frame would fit a 1865 Ford Mustang Convertible. I'm 62 yrs old and I remember buying old cars like these all the time for 100-200 dollars.
Really exciting to see this collection! Thanks for sharing. Grew up with three brothers and a dad who were/are into cars. So grateful it rubbed off on me! Brings me lots of joy to see these classics.
One of the reasons why cars from the early1980's to early 1990's haven't very popular is because of the electronic engine controls and sensor problems can be a pain to diagnose and fix. And being mostly electronic problems the only thing you can do is replace the item and junkyard parts are as problematic as what your trying to replace because you don't know if that one's good as well. I had a 1985 Corvette that I fought the battle with and some of the electronic parts were a one year only item and hard to find. Sometimes its just a bad connection inside the wiring loom and if you've ever taken a C4 Corvette dash apart to trace down a connection you know what a pain it is to do.
My Aunt had an early model square body Bravada which was meant to be a "luxury SUV" at the time so it was choc full of electronics and trust me there's a reason you don't see those things on the road anymore lol. I own a 94 f150 and it has EFI but it mostly does fine so IDK, it does have the 300 in it so maybe that's it. Something about adding lumbar supports and heated seats in that era just doomed the vehicle I guess.
Love the show as usual Tom! Hard to believe that's the first *Certicard* you've ever run across... Around here in TN, folks is just folks. We're kinda wary of strangers, but if you're on the up and up, we'll welcome you right on in eventually. - Ed on the Ridge

That card you found under the hood of that Dodge usually has the original owners name and address stamped into it. It's basically Chrysler's version of GM's "Protect-O-Plate".
wish you guys would come down to San Antonio Texas(Seguin) and walk through John's Salvage Co. There are a few videos here on youtube. Place is huge. My parents live 5 minutes down the road. Its nice to just walk through and explore now and then. Roughly 2000 cars, alot complete alot more not. He has another stash of maybe 20 cars at his house. Hoarding is not collecting. Collecting means you care about the item, take care of the item, maintain said item and so forth. Hoarding is accumulation for the sake of stacking stuff in the yard or corner and not doing anything to care about or for the item. I enjoy this for the interesting cars but man hoarders drive me crazy, such waste.
