Been bowling for 17 months (2H Lefty) and I threw my first 300 today, with the Purple Hammer. I thank you for your videos on urethane, as it helped me make my decision last month to use it exclusively, and haven’t regretted it 😁
Purple urethane has been good even during league. Just important for me to recognize when it’s time to swap and commit to the swap. Normally to a low flare reactive solid - like envy tour
That's a good point that I never thought about when it came to urethane.. Back in my teens I did have (and still have) my Fab Hammers.. My Blue is a "light" 16lb.. box weight was 15lb 15oz, while my Blue Pearl was 16lb 5oz. I never thought about it in terms of weight versus carry, but looking back at the last time I threw my Fab Blue (about 10 years ago), it still hit hard. I wonder if it would be worth trying to find a heavier 15lb Black Pearl Urethane..
To this day I still use the old Fab Black and Pink Hammers. To give them flare so they are no longer were effected by carry down I put a Mo Hole balance hole in them to create about a two inch flare. I could stay in the same spot all night during leagues. Now with the no balance hole rule I plugged the holes up but they still have flare and do not create carry down problems. I keep them semi polished and they read a house shot very well.
My 78d hooks way too much. I drilled it the weakest layout in the 2ls system. (5½"×5"×2") I throw about 14.5 mph with about 300 rev rate. any suggestions to help me calm the ball down?
What I would like to see from the Brunswick side, seeing that you incorporate Columbia as well, is the original black u-dot. Shot my all time high series with it, 300-267-300/867 back in the short oil days (1987). I hear that the retired AMF lines have been incorporated into Brunswick. Meaning the Cobra could be brought back (call it the nu cobra)AND THE ball old AMF that was fantastic was the Purple Angle. Being a PBA50 member, I would like to see urethane sold as maybe nostalgia for the younger kids, but us children of the 1960's. Would love to see some more of the classics return. Just an idea.
@@SteveWalsh-hx3ge Yeah, the original Black Widow was definitely one of those balls that you felt like you were at a disadvantage if you didn't have one in your bag.
Nick my question is what ball would you recommend for an older bowler who has a moderate rev rate and is 13 at best speed usually a little under 13. For a bench mark house shot league player. ❤❤❤. Throwing 14 lbs
13 on the scoring monitors? If so, plenty of speed, would probably recommend Effect for asymmetrical and Endeavor/Trouble Maker Pearl for symmetrical options.
So, I have the purple, 16 lbs and love it. A few weeks ago I decided to go with a big solid asymmetric, atlas. Folks say they can be similar. Big solid asylums and urethane. From my experiences, no way Jose. You still have to ply the asylum much further down the lane compared to the urethane. I would love to see you shot a video comparing a high sow solid asylum and urethane to see if you experience the same thing. I think I will get the black hammer and experiment with surfaces. My purple I will not touch.
@@brunsnick That's it! I am motivated for tomorrow night league. Back to bringing my one ball. The purple. And, I am going to drill that pocket all night long!
Regarding the midlane asym layout the radical site, does that pin down layout actually make the ball rev up earlier? My bowling friends said the pin down layout would make the ball go longer bc the RG goes up 🤷🏻♂️
After drilling differential numbers more important than RGs are. Pin down generally will lower flare and make the hook window longer and slower often giving it more continuation through the pins.
I am a low Rev older bowler. I currently use a 15lb summit and later in the set, sometimes a 15 lb summit Peak. I will be bowling nationals in Vegas in May.. I'm only a 170 ave. BOWLER so I would like every advantage possible on the sport pattern there. Would the new hammer black pearl at 15 or 16 lbs be a smarter choice & drilled pin up or down? Thanks. Loveur videos. Keep up the great work.
I think it would be cool to see a comparison video using one of the new balls with a counterbalance hole and one without. Especially since they made it illegal to use counterbalance holes I would genuinely like to see how much it alters the ball motion down lane.
I swap from 15-16 during leagues. Why because I don’t have 1000$ to spend on balls I find I pull the 15 from a 16 so I just look a board or two right until I’m square shooting my mark. No big deal. I get more revs with the lighter ball but seems the heavy balls grip more and are slower so they equal out in hook power. But I definitely believe in heavy ball power they just get odd hits better those odd trips . More messengers a few inch further
Watching this video, it makes me want to go back and order the 16lb 78 iq tour. The ball is awesome, but those sporadic pocket 7-10s would be a bit more sporadic with a 16. Great video
You have said before, you don't clean or resurface your urethane balls, but that 15 lb Black Pearl was deflecting like crazy off the pocket. Even after you hit it with 800 it was still deflecting and laboring to get into a roll. There was just too much oil today on the lane today. As a long time urethane user I can tell you, for house shots, urethane balls need some defined dry to work. Normally in league, if everyone is throwing resin but me, then I will have a great look with urethane because the resin balls are taking oil off the lane, preventing carrydown, or my urethane ball from getting too oil soaked and lubricated. But if multiple people are throwing urethane, a house shot can become a mess very quickly with our urethane balls going longer and longer up the lane before they react. Once that happens even resin balls won't hook. In my experience urethane works best on low to medium volume house shots, but longer, heavier house shots work against urethane unless you can get help from resin players.
@@brunsnick Was it simply because the 15 was so lane shined that it labored and the 16 was still rough and dull? The 16 did flare more, but not a ton more like a Black Widow Pink or an Attitude Control would.
This is a little random, but can you please tell me exactly what a "high flush" strike is? Actually, please make a video describing all the slang terms! Like ringing ten, flat ten, light mixer...please! I gotta learn the cool slang!
As someone who doesn’t have very much rev rate, what would be a good option to use? I’ve been looking for urethane or something extremely early and controllable. If there are any recommendations please let me know, thank you very much☺️
While some lane oils do contain solvents at a very minute level, it’s there for oil dispersion and leveling when applied to the lane and will evaporate after application. You are partially correct, but that doesn’t make lane oil a solvent.
@@brunsnick I don’t think the lane conditioner causes the lower readings but this now has me curious how many different types and ratios of solvents are in the different models of conditioners. Guess I’ll be trying to get a lot of SDS sheets. Another rabbit hole for me to go down. Anyway, enjoy the rest of your weekend. I enjoy the content.

Would it be more beneficial to get a 16lb rather than a 15lb if you are more speed dominant like myself?
If you can handle it, yes! It’ll hook more and slow down faster.
