Coming from someone who started with the Faball Hammers, these two balls remind me of another pair of balls I've used: The Blue Hammer and the Blue Pearl Hammer. Purple would be the Blue, and Black Pearl would be the Blue Pearl. If the Blue was too much, I'd switch to the Blue Pearl and keep on going. Wash/rinse/repeat here with the Purple Pearl and Black Pearl. I was just telling my 14 year old son that there is nothing stopping anyone from having a urethane bag and a resin bag, with Urethane being a Widow Urethane (Pink or Purple), NU Blue (for the different shape), Purple Pearl, then Black Pearl. There's a complete 4-ball urethane (or near urethane) arsenal right there, from heaviest rolling to least.
Nice comparison. Thank you. With my ultra low rev, low ball speed Full Roller style I am thinking The Black Pearl may be a better match. I do have a Purple Hammer but it can sometimes be too much ball for house shots. When there is not enough volume it either burns up or runs away from me if I try to get outside with it. Also for House the lowest grit I ever run on Modern Urethane balls is 2000, anything lower and they just die out.
I was experiencing over/under with all of my equipment on my house shot. About 1 month ago I tried a purple. Never turning back. It just simplified everything. I am torn between the black and NU. Leaning more towards black.
Hi, NIck my son got me a purple hammer overseas solid 15lbs, it was drilled by a friend of his that has a pro shop. I love the Hammers, I bowled the old blue through out the eighties. He drilled this one 3'' high and 4'' right of my left finger pin up. Needless to say its a workout just keeping in the pins, from any angle, burns its energy up before getting to the pins and hits flat. I've bowled about 40 games with it form one side of the lanes and back and its not gotten any bettet. I believe its drilled to strong. My Hammer Axe I use for spares, which I recieved at the same time, I can bowl it as a strike ball easily and get still get my spares. learning to bowl again after a couple of severe accidents and years away from the sport, making progress. I really like the Urethane Hammers, when bowling leauges years ago it was my pin killer and great at it. I would like to fine another great Hammer like my Old Blue, with its results. What can I do? The guy at the Pro Shop he wants me to go with a STORM PHASEII, for a Hammer man its a slap in the face. I'm looking for length and power into the pins, your right hand style is similar to my old way of playing, I like the outside. Any help or dirrection would be greatly apperciated.. Thank you, jim
@@apostolic1Godbelieve it sounds like maybe your ball speed isn’t very high anymore? Urethane likes to read early and it comes out of the box very dull, so the first step to controlling it better would be to bring the surface up to a smoother finish. So if it’s 1000 grit, have the shop bring it up to 2000 and try again until you can get it down the lane. Repeat with higher if necessary.
What are your opinions on the Red Pearl Asym Overseas hammer ball I was told it’s a weaker pink black widow and wondering what your thoughts about the ball is?
Never seen fingers drilled at the angle you have. Looks like it would strain the fingers? How does this work for you compared to fingers normally drilled side by side?

I primarily bowl 9 pin now, USBC and PBA have no say in the equipment we use. Many still use balls with balance holes and the 2016-17 purple hammers. It's not really going to help in that game, but it feels good to no longer have to worry about dumb bans. I still use my Storm Spectre there! Eat that USBC! 🤣
I plan on ordering 2 blacks by march 30th with my PBA discount. Then i have to decide if im ordering another blue for 6 pba legal balls in the bag or if i pick up a theorem..
Before watching the video, I would make the assumption that the black is better for playing straight. Purple fits more when you can try to add some shape. That’s not to say either ball can’t be used to add some shape or play straight, I just would imagine that those are each balls strengths. That being said, if you CAN use the purple then you should. Both balls are good, but obviously the purple is the goat.
Interested in seeing the side by side difference, by someone who isn't a PBA pro throwing it on a PBA pattern. I love the motion of the Purple, but it's a bout 5 boards too strong to use on the THS. Hoping to see at least a decent step down from the Purple.
I was just gifted the black 78D. I’m excited for it but still unsure how I should use it. I mainly throw on house shots for league but do want to try some challenge patterns in other leagues. Currently have a BW3.0, Storm Absolute, and a IQ Ruby. Any thoughts on how or where I should use the new urethane? 15mph at the hand and around 340 revs
I would like to see a comparison of your purple with normal weight and go up one weight with the black. A lot of talk with the diff being much higher on the 16 compared to the 15 on the black pearl that it reads earlier and more pros are going up in weight.
Nick, Can we see a Nu blue/black hammer comparison? My NU blue seems less angular than my purple. Would the NU blue be a good ball to go to after the black?
Nick--for us non-pros, what are your thoughts about starting with Purple and then changing to Black when Purple begins checking up and becomes too early? If these two are a viable "1-2 punch", would you still recommend taking the surface on the Black down to 360 or lower, or would you only do so if you are using it to replace the Purple, but would leave it at 500 box if using both? Thank you
Sure they can be a 1-2 punch when Purple starts to read too early. Can stay in the same spot and pick back up with Black. Leave surfaces alone unless you’re replacing Purple. (Don’t know why you would though) this a less aggressive ball about 4 boards.

Slow your speed down a bit when playing in the oil. It will hook. If you try to play too much of the friction it will over hook unless you have a lot of speed.
It’s important to practice with them to break in the cover, always wipe the oil off between shots and play as close to the friction as your speed/revs will allow.
