❗❗ Hello friends, for those of you who may have missed it - the entire rest of the series is currently taken down as a result of copyright strikes. I've been trying to deal with them for the past few weeks with little to no results - for more updates, check my twitter - I try to post about what's going on with it fairly regularly. Thank you for all the support so far, hopefuly we'll get this sorted.
When I first watched the series, I didn’t know G8 was filler. I definitely felt something off about the arc, but enjoyed it all the same. Also, the arc is technically not all filler, as there are cannon bits mixed in, as you noticed, and I really like the Skypeia continuity that you also pointed out. I’d say G8 gets +1 point above every other filler arc.
G8 + 1. All Condoriano jokes aside, Jonathan is one of the best antagonists imo. Not really a villain and no 1v1 action with Luffy but very uniquely interesting.
G8 is one of the if not the best filler in all anime... period. In this filler arc, the continuity is maintained without disrupting the main storyline. The amount of character exploration we we may not get time to explore in the main story otherwise, the amount of foreshadowing yet not revealing anything, the rare character matchups in this arc we seldom get to see in main story, giving opportunity for less prevalent characters to shine, have one of the funniest scenes and parallelelly giving more insight into character's headspace, having a lot of fun by putting characters in different circumstances creating comedy gold, yet not losing the heart of one piece and the characters n giving them depth as well, sometimes revisiting their past experiences and moments through the current task at hand giving a nostalgic feel to it... and one of the most interesting antagonists, Johnathan, who is a genuinely good guy buy in the opposite side with a very poised, calm, meticulous, funny demeanor making him so cooler.... ofc like you said we get Marines point of view in this arc which is very much interesting and fresh to say the least...... AND LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST... the Ultimate chad Mr. CON. D. ORIANO.... Except Sanji's hand thing, this totally feels like a Canon arc... If one wants to know the flavor of one piece, they can watch G8... n get a rough feeling of how fun but interesting one piece can be
Well, Usopp is the dial man, even though the impact dial would better fit Luffy, who doesn't even need that kind of defense anyways. Besides, usage of dials is too technical for Luffy.
This is the only piece of filler media that i recommended any time someone says they're watching one piece G8 is just plus 1 in every way for me and i rewatch it whenever I have nothing else to watch
I remember skipping g8 as I thought it was "bad" filler and recently came back to it after seeing the Infamous ✌️ Luffy moment and oh boi was I wrong, I can't remember the last time I laughed as maniacally as I did watching one piece before.
Luffy is not really immune to impact dial damage. As you may remember in Skypiea, when the straw hats were fighting Satori - the priest with the cloud balls, his palm hits really did hurt luffy which surprised him too. It was later revealed that the priests were using impact dials inside their gloves and it could actually hurt Luffy as the damage from an impact dial hurts from the inside (or something like that) (And no, it was not haki/mantra as only observation haki was hinted at in this arc which they were calling mantra. There was no concept of Armament haki at this point in the story). This point was highlighted in the arc to establish that the fights are not going to be easy for the straw-hats in skypiea where sky combat was practiced using dials. So, it made perfect sense to me why no one wanted to use the impact dial. Although why Sanji used his hand instead of his mighty cannon feet is a mystery to me.
Jonathan being the first Marine to demonstrate Haki by imbuing a meatball with Color of Armament will always be my favorite little coincidence. G8+1 indeed.
Usopp is the one that uses the dials because he's the only one who needs to be resourceful in a crew full of monsters, and Nami doesn't really count bc she already has mastery of a weapon, and can use and manipulate the climate. Compared to everyone else, he lacks physical power the most and is the less combat experienced Pairing that with his clever use of tricks and gadgets, he's the best choice to employ them to their full usefulness
I love that in a lot of ways, the Marines helped out the Straw Hats here, but at the same time the Straw Hats helped the Marines. These are some of the best Marines in the series.
IMO about the conflict of art and artist, if you like a piece of art but you dislike the artist you either dont consume the art or consume it in such a way that doesnt benefit the artist. idc if a cake was baked by hitler himself, if it is a good cake i will eat it anyways and i will find a way to dont give money to that man for it.
Discovered the channel two weeks ago and I binge-watched all the one piece videos. It's been a long time since i found a TH-cam content that I really enjoy keep up the great work.
The most powerful +1 one piece character of all time appeared in the G8 Arc originally. This was his great introduction. Bravo Vince! Con D. oriano is a force to rival Buggy D. Clown and Down D. stairs as the most powerful in the Series. Also spoiler. Even Go D. Ussop may not be able to face Him but only time will tell who would win that match up. The very man who introduced Con D. Oriano to the Marines and the world at large, may fall victim to his power.
Luffy cannot safely use the dial; it was explained back in Skypia; the Impact Dial can hit fruit users as if they had no powers. Luffy got bloodied by an impact release to the head.
...wasn't Sanji be the one to originally test it under Gan Fall's direction? I thought he called the old man out on how dangerous it is. I instead choose to believe that Sanji was willing to risk injuring his hands in order to have a crew that would enjoy his cooking. We know that he does throw himself around by his hands, and he dis fight with knives once against Wanze, so he's willing to take _some_ risk. He just refuses to bludgeon others with them.
Only reason I could think they would use Usopp with the impact dial is because he’s the best shot in the crew. I guess where your at his role in the crew hasn’t really been established but he is the sniper
The issue of consuming art from problematic artists doesn’t make sense to me, and seems destructive. Humanity, as a whole, is extremely nuanced and messy, and people are allowed to think whatever they want. For the sake of argument let’s say one day in the future Oda says or supports a problematic view, does that discredit the work of One Piece? Would you stop supporting the artist to finish his work just because he shares a view of the world that you do not?
If that artist tries to dehumanize other humans and is just a terrible person yes 😂😂😂 its all about severity tbh and also to be fair bashing someones view isnt nice either... Your basically saying "who cares if he's a rapist he made a good show" "who cares she thinks trans people arnt humans she wrote shite books" like you do you... But actually think about it for a minute... It's about severity, I mean I don't think odas an atheist but doesn't stop me from enjoying his viewpoints on gods and alike, we live in entirely different countries, speak different languages, have different skin, but he is a good person (to my knowledge)who creates beautiful artwork for billions to enjoy and I respect him for it, but the the same time, kill some ome for no reason or a bad one, touch anyone without their permission (you know what i mean) or just be a horrible person, then no i won't support you, I'll just pirate your stuff so you don't get money 😂😂😂😂😂
2:29 Here’s the thing about “astronomically bad luck” in stories. I think as long as it’s presenting your characters with an obstacle and not resolving a situation through the bad luck of the antagonist, it’s always fine to just hand wave an insanely unlucky situation to be the starting point of a story. Cause life can be random and statistically unlikely things happen more often than you’d think. So I think nitpicking that the chances of dropping into the middle of a Marine base would be astronomically low doesn’t really matter from a story structure standpoint. As long as the solution to a problem has nothing to do with luck, I think luck is a great narrative device to utilize.
Jonathon seems like the type of vice admiral that should be working with sword or a liaison to sword. He just doesn't come off antagonistic but has a job but is genuinely confused
Agreed. The important thing is that it's not padding out the runtime but rather delivering a fulfilling & wholesome experience that exists in its own right.
Really enjoyed your review of the G9 arc! I really hate the copyright strikes though and I wish you the best in dealing with them… if you decide to drop One Piece from your channel due to it, I totally understand though!
In the part of diferentiate the Art with the artist I think you misses one point, she dosent like sanji bc she persive him as being bad and problematic, not really if he was a bad person but persived to be one, maybe we persived jk as being problematic but we also should not be quick to judgement of all her views just bc we lack all the info, just like she dosent know that the straw hat pirates are not really bad
Most fillers have some weird devil fruit user that becomes complicated or too similar to another later. This arc has none of that, which is part of what makes it so good. It also has some nice foreshadowing for events to come, like the spirit on the ship or talk of a shipwright joining the crew, both of which happen in Water 7. Usopp getting familiar with those dials is going to be important later for a heartbreaking reason.
I'm making a list of flying/"flying" devil fruits starting from the Alabasta part 2 video. This arc has no new devil fruits, nor advancements in existing fruits, and is non canon filler anyway. Flying devil fruit equivalency: 7.2
The next (canon) arc is pretty bloated with filler. The filler episodes labeled as "anime canon" in the filler list because they added it into the middle of the arc and if you skip it, the arc doesn't completely make sense. It makes perfect sense in the manga though and is very short and funny, overall it's a good arc that I enjoy a lot, but it gets dragged out in the anime. The two filler arcs after the next arc (Ocean's Dream and Foxy's Return) are pretty meh. Since I know you'll probably review them, it would be good to do them in one video. Either just those two filler arcs in one video or all three in one video in the interest of getting back to canon material quickly. It's all up to you though. EDIT: I posted this before watching the video, so yeah, if you're too busy to do a 2 or 3 arc video, just take your time haha. Also G8+1
Wait, next is Water7? Isn´t Foxy arc next? I mean I know its not important to the story but theres still funny moments there. My only problem is that they made tha arc longer in the anime than in the manga. But anyway Im really excited for u to watch water 7/ennies lobby, everyone favorite arc including me.
One Piece doesn’t make filler like they used to tbh. A lot of the early filler was fun and didn’t try and do too much. For the most part was genuinely enjoyable. The newer filler arcs are so wonky and just shoved in that it’s nearly painful to watch at times.
So I heard you say next stop Water 7, just wanna say for future reference don’t look up what the next arcs are. At some point in the future an arc name spoils what happens in the previous arc. The previous arc I am referring to is what I’m predicting to be your favorite arc so your best off steering clear of that, for now though your fine and your gonna love Water 7(arc not saga) it’s an easy S tier
The only reason I would avoid consuming the works of a "problematic artist" (problematic is subjective) is because I'm afraid of negative feedback from peers or 'the crowd'. For that reason, publicly stating that one won't consumer these works is a performance Edit: also, the vast majority of people do not consider JK Rowlings comments to be radical or absurd. The effort to cancel Rowling is very much a radical, fringe movement
Consume what you want to consume, don’t be afraid of what your “peers” think. There’s too much of a judgemental culture going on now, if they don’t like it then they just need to not watch or engage with the person they are so offended with. I understand the ham fisted way that the social issues are shoved into this video, obviously the you tubers views or just something to appeal to those people you’re so worried about. It’s so hard to tell now, there’s too much virtue signalling, cancel culture, outrage and some king of oppression point system 😆 TLDR In other words, fuck what other people think. Read and watch what you want.
Well, I might avoid buying stuff from a 'problematic' author or company since I don't want to support them. If they aren't making money off of it then I don't care though.
The issue with the word is it is vague. Problematic: "ie, of the nature of being a problem". So...whats the problem? It suggests something is negative without giving anyone any details. Any person not totally invested will 'get a clue' and just assume its bad. Imagine you're at a cafe and someone points down the counter and says "don't bother with that problematic guy" you either don't, or ask why. If you ask why you find out he only tipped 18% and not 20%
Maybe a hot take, but if there's something that I really want to check out that would support a problematic creator, like Hogwarts Legacy, I'm going to pirate it. When I pirate something that isn't supporting a problematic creator, I view it as a viable try-before-you-buy experience and I really will buy it if I end up enjoying it. Even One Piece, I started out watching it and reading chapters from pirate websites. Now that it's one of my favorite series, I've bought the first manga box set and will buy the others when I can spare the expense.
Just wondering but what is problematic with the artists behind Hogwarts Legacy, I got excited for the game when I saw the trailer but is there something I should be worried about?
@@anime-ip8to At least some part of the profits of Hogwarts Legacy would probably go to the author of Harry Potter, J. K. Rowling, who is a massive TERF. I'm not saying any of the people who make art for the game are problematic, maybe "creator" is a better word than "artist" in this case so I'll change it.
We are pirates, not heroes. Usopp had the dial, it was his idea, thus it'll be his pain. Plus he needs to toughen up. Nakama will help you, but won't necessarily do the thing For you. Each man to his own fate, if you will. Im glad you liked G8 tho, its the best of the fillers, n the only one most of the fandom acknowledges as watchable. Its the only 1 I watch, n I do a TON of rewatching ...daily.

Separating the work from the author is a no brainer for me. It's quite literally the ad hominem fallacy. As for "highly problematic", where would you put J.K. Rowling on the "problematic scale", 10 being, I suppose, Stalin and such? Because I don't think she would be that high in perspective. Gotta be careful with non-numerical definitions as they can be VERY ambiguous and misleading.
I can appreciate Lovecraft's work now because he's dead & his work is now public domain. It's a more difficult topic for artists like J.K. Rowling, Orson Scott Card, or Nobuhiro Nishiwaki.
Dude, we get it. You’re a leftist. You do not have to bring politics into everything. Edit: Great review otherwise though. Glad you are enjoying the series so far.
to talk about the whole them not wanting to use the recipe's because he's a pirate. I believe that the main difference is the fact that Sanji isn't going to get anything from them using it. He's not going to get fame or money in any shape and form if they use his recipe's and his recipe's in itself are good things. Compare that to the other examples you mentioned, where the person can be directly benefited by consumption, and that the thing has inherently bad qualities within it. Hogwarts Legacy for example, the money goes to Rowling, and even talking about it gives it exposure. And we also know for a fact that she is using the money she makes from the game to fuel her hateful campaign. Even the game itself has very big problems, with the fact it has anti-semitism and transphobia present within the game. If we were to make Sanji's situation similar it'd be like Sanji's recipe is deceptively good, though making the dish will harm the kitchen staff due to how it's made. Any dish of this served has to pay Sanji a small fee, and the dish has to be stated that it is in fact made by Sanji. All money Sanji gets will be used to creep on women. This dish is very much not needed for anything but enjoyment too! It does beg a question that if you can put something above something else. Such as a form of entertainment/enjoyment over the safety and wellbeing of a group of people. I myself wouldn't support Sanji or JKR in these scenarios, and whether anyone else does is up to them. They can and should be judged on their decision though, because it is a very well make or break decision in my books.
I think the other issue is assuming any disagreement is hate. What I've observed is that everyone has different priorities. Rowling is concerned that one group is losing out because another group is encroaching. Every time I hear the word 'hate' it turns out not to be the case more often then not. She was one of the richest women in the world prior to it being deemed hateful, yet enough people still bought the game anyways and no one got hurt because she said stuff on twitter. its all very bizarre to an outsider to constantly have to worry about what will enter the vague category as hate this week.
@@Pangora2 I'm going to assume there's things you don't know about the story. Like how trans people having rights doesn't take away the rights of others or the fact that Rowling has been used as reason to write legislature against trans people and how she constantly donates profits from things like the games to anti trans businesses to further her campaign against a group of people who in reality do not affect her in any way. She does it for hate, because nothing she has said holds merit, things like they are trying to devalue women or take women's rights away, don't hold up when you actually take time to look at the entire issue. It's all just lies and misinformation from her and that side and affects a lot of trans people just trying to live their lives.
@@NeoCinnamon Except that many of the "trans rights" people talk about are just blatant attempts to stifle the rights of everyone else to privilege them. These activists will straight up decry any disagreement as "literal violence", their words. Literally just not speaking the way they want you to is considered an infringement on "trans rights", worthy of jail time. And that's just the tip of the whole rotten iceberg. We've all heard your weaselly rhetoric a thousand times. It stopped being persuasive a long time ago. Maybe you should stop for a second, and ponder whether it's you who has things you don't know about the story. But that would require a modicum of self reflection. A sad rarity.

Con D. Oriano is a major ally to the straw hats. without him, the straw hats would have never escaped g8.

G8 is so much fun. In my opinion an aspect of One Piece we don’t see enough outside of important character moments are characters just hanging out.
Ah finally the most powerful Strawhat makes his glorious first appearance. Con D. Oriano!!
The G8 arc is a 10/10 and it's my favourite arc in the entire series. After all THE GREAT CON D. ORIANO-SAMA was introduced in this arc

EDIT: I posted this before watching the video, so yeah, if you're too busy to do a 2 or 3 arc video, just take your time haha. Also G8+1
G8 + 1 Condoriano knows where the One Piece is btw
Wait, next is Water7? Isn´t Foxy arc next? I mean I know its not important to the story but theres still funny moments there. My only problem is that they made tha arc longer in the anime than in the manga. But anyway Im really excited for u to watch water 7/ennies lobby, everyone favorite arc including me.
Water 7 as in the saga, there are indeed still a few arcs in between :)
So when are you uploading the water 7 review? I'm sorry for asking but I'm just really Hyped
Water 7 is still a few weeks away, we still have the Looong Ring Looooong Laaaaaand to go through. (that is coming very soon though)😄
@@Koroto Ohh yeah I forgot about that arc, it's really fun to watch but it drags on in my opinion. I thought it was filler lol
It’s back up!! Woohoo!!!
One Piece doesn’t make filler like they used to tbh. A lot of the early filler was fun and didn’t try and do too much. For the most part was genuinely enjoyable. The newer filler arcs are so wonky and just shoved in that it’s nearly painful to watch at times.
oh naah wehere did the other one piece vids go :(
All still taken down, they should start coming back up over the next days/weeks. It's out of my hands, so it's just a waiting game at this point.
nah i won't say G8+1 just because you asked me to !
WELL OK, DONT THEN! Wait....
@@Koroto 😂
So I heard you say next stop Water 7, just wanna say for future reference don’t look up what the next arcs are. At some point in the future an arc name spoils what happens in the previous arc. The previous arc I am referring to is what I’m predicting to be your favorite arc so your best off steering clear of that, for now though your fine and your gonna love Water 7(arc not saga) it’s an easy S tier
No worries, I don't check the arc names far ahead, it's just the saga name that I see to make thumbnails :)
The only reason I would avoid consuming the works of a "problematic artist" (problematic is subjective) is because I'm afraid of negative feedback from peers or 'the crowd'.
For that reason, publicly stating that one won't consumer these works is a performance
Edit: also, the vast majority of people do not consider JK Rowlings comments to be radical or absurd.
It’s so hard to tell now, there’s too much virtue signalling, cancel culture, outrage and some king of oppression point system 😆
TLDR In other words, fuck what other people think.
If you ask why you find out he only tipped 18% and not 20%
oh my god water 7 incoming the starting of real onepiece
G8 (+1) is canon in my heart
Con D riano was the best straw hat
To be honest with you I thought that G8 was canon and long ring long island (hope I got this right) was filler
Nuh uh ima meme on you. You interchange my name Jonathan with Joseph and thats tbe biggest distrspect because this guy I know named Joseph....
For the blessing of the algorithm!
@@Gus_Na If you told me 10 years ago that Feminism would be too conservative and get people canceled, I would have considered it impossible.
The inspector should be fired to be honest, more like G8 - 1
Do you have any social media acc besides TT and yt? 🥺
Aside from Patreon, not really - I'm not much of a social media type guy tbh😅
We are pirates, not heroes. Usopp had the dial, it was his idea, thus it'll be his pain. Plus he needs to toughen up. Nakama will help you, but won't necessarily do the thing For you. Each man to his own fate, if you will. Im glad you liked G8 tho, its the best of the fillers, n the only one most of the fandom acknowledges as watchable. Its the only 1 I watch, n I do a TON of rewatching ...daily.
Gr8 +1 Video!
Giant dempling dragon
TLDW: Dude rates it at B tier and it’s an insult to this masterpiece
I don't know these ranking have been pretty on point for me. Granted I'm even layer to one piece than you were. 😂
I know it is old but what did rowling say that offends so much you are a bit of a clown for that take
Love these videos G8+9
Separating the work from the author is a no brainer for me. It's quite literally the ad hominem fallacy.
As for "highly problematic", where would you put J.K. Rowling on the "problematic scale", 10 being, I suppose, Stalin and such? Because I don't think she would be that high in perspective. Gotta be careful with non-numerical definitions as they can be VERY ambiguous and misleading.
Next arc is: G8 + 1 - 2C
I can appreciate Lovecraft's work now because he's dead & his work is now public domain. It's a more difficult topic for artists like J.K. Rowling, Orson Scott Card, or Nobuhiro Nishiwaki.
repair Merry part is Canon in the manga not a filler
😂😂😂 J K isn't wrong
Great vid g8+1

hello
Dude, we get it. You’re a leftist. You do not have to bring politics into everything.
Edit: Great review otherwise though. Glad you are enjoying the series so far.
G-7 then
G8 + 1 = ???
G8 is the best

Rowling a problematic person? If protecting women's rights is wrong, then what it is? Honestly, she's misunderstood.
to talk about the whole them not wanting to use the recipe's because he's a pirate.
Like how trans people having rights doesn't take away the rights of others
or the fact that Rowling has been used as reason to write legislature against trans people
and how she constantly donates profits from things like the games to anti trans businesses to further her campaign against a group of people who in reality do not affect her in any way.
I'm really glad you enjoyed G8. Sadly, One Piece only goes downhill from here.
