Dr Dean, viewer all the way from South Africa here, this video was really helpful and it guided me really well last week when I did the oil cooler gasket and oil filter housing gasket as preventative maintenance on my e90 325i
Another super no nonsense video guys.......doc a massive pleasure to see you in action. Great information and superbly shot as a first attempt young man. 💎
Excellent DIY thank you Replaced gaskets and filled fresh coolant as this DIY you will loose some coolant. Took some pictures. So far no leaks, Next is the surpentine belt and the pulley. But I will get that done by the garage guy. Ok Thank you again for sharing the video and
No I didn’t have to bleed the coolant the car bleeds itself and you lose very minimal coolant when doing this and you do not have to drain the oil just do this when engine is cold
@@BMWDoctor Well my comment was based on me speaking English very well but I have sometimes difficulties understanding you based on the relative speed of you talking. Maybe I can go slow -mo on TH-cam? Just kidding ;-)
I know I have a thing open at the moment to take away the variable speed on TH-cam and they are listening and I think they will be phasing that out soon there listening to us creators
because of this 2A87 vanos exhaust error can be happened?? with this error sometimes engine stop... I replaced two vanos valve (exhaust and intake) but looks same... so I am considering replace oil filter and replace engine oil (i didn't replace engine oil for 2 years). please let me know what you thing . thanks for reading~! my car is BMW 328i E90 2008 : now 110,000 miles
I have a BMW 328i 2007 n51 engine and I was told that I would needed to change my whole oil filter housing, due to the oil leaking at the cap. I didn’t see any type of crack in the housing. How often is there a crack or warp where the caps line is? And how often does a oil housing crack or warp ?
Great video Always. I tried to do this but now when i go to tighten the 10mm bolt at the bottom of the oil cooler unit it just turns without tightening fully. Anyway to get this out mate? Cheers Dean
Did you get any answer on this? To my knowledge the N52 engine and its parts are made from aluminum and magnesium, thus bolts are aluminum instead of steel to prevent corrosion. From what I read on internet, aluminum bolts should not be reused after removal and be replaced with new ones, but I have no information regarding these specific ones.
Thats wonderful instruction video. I did mine as well, only difficulty i had was the housing's bottom bolt, where i could not torque it with the wrench but tightened with a spanner. İ also did bleeding procedure. İ added Around 300 ml coolant
I have what looks like oil mixed with my coolant, it seems to be running ok, and my oil looks ok, not milky or anything. So do you think Its likely it's my oil cooler gasket failing? Thanks man. 2007 130i n52 140k
got oil in my coolant on a 130i i just bought Saturday. Garage servicing said id need a new oil pump and 4hour labor and it wil cost about £750. could this be the cause of alot of oil in the coolant. would really appreciate any advice. thanks so much in advance
Can you please link me the tool you used in this video? maybe even a name? So i can buy it here in Canada, just bought a 335i and I've never done DIY before, like the rest of the comments here all the DIY's posted for this repair is saying to take the manifold off but yours is much more convenient. Please help me out
So i'm not draining my coolant before i do the replacement, I know i'll lose a little coolant from the hose, but when i put it back together --- am i in the clear to drive it 15-20 minutes to my auto shop to have oil and coolant change? Or do i have to fill it up with more coolant?
not really mate as its still gonna hold oil in the filter anyway and in the oil cooler so regardless its gonna give out best thing is do this when engine is cold and not got up to temp and running all over the engine make sure its cold so its ready to go and just do it
Hi Dean. Thankyou so much for this video. Do you know if the bolt under the manifold will come out completely on a UK spec N53 (direct injection) engine without lifting/removing the inlet manifold first. I could try but worried I might cause a bigger leak if I retightened it. Appreciate any valuable knowledge you may be able to provide. Thanks Dal

BMW Doctor Thanks for reply you are the best everyone else said I had to remove the intake I am glad I found your video thanks again I am subscribe also
Tee Rich ha mate that’s what they all say ignore them the only time you remove that manifold is to get to the ccv that’s it or disas you can unbolt the manifold and lift it up a bit to get to the oil filter bolt
@@b.skis_3054 if you stripped the last filter housing bolt with the spanner you can remove the flange for the coolant hose that’s in the way (the ”mickey mouse flange”). then you have enough room to hammer on a t10 socket and get it out. just beware that this will introduce air into the cooling system and you will need to re-bleed it correctly, if not you risk the engine and water pump. i would strongly suggest doing a complete coolant change altogether to be sure

One of the best DIY videos! 👌🏼👌🏼
Do you have to drain down the oil and coolant before doing this? Also did you have to bleed the coolant system afterwards?
No I didn’t have to bleed the coolant the car bleeds itself and you lose very minimal coolant when doing this and you do not have to drain the oil just do this when engine is cold
Thank you brother for all the information you provide. You're an absolute legend!
@BMW Doctor I would recommend drain the coolant as some coolant I belive leaked in to the oil and it got contaminated
Well done video Dean. I see your camera lady is back on the job. 👍
Nah mate my son did it for me lol this time only tho but he was good for his first time

9 months later so i presume u figured it out some where else so do you ?
Very useful video. Great to see the subs numbers going up as well
Cheers mate wondered where you gone lol
@@BMWDoctor Always here for you mate. Just crazy busy at work and my renault trafic van let me down at work and was stuck for over a week.
Would it be smart to do a coolant and oil change so your coolant and oil are drained when you do this repair?
thanks for the DIY doing this this weekend.
Where can I buy the vano solenoids you were talking about in your video bro ?
you should always go for oem if it is for vanos
Is it safe to reuse bolts. Both sets for housing and thermostat

what type of special soket you used on the coolant bolt
Hi, after I change the gaskets, should the antifreeze installation be ventilated?
Have you changed the oil filter housing gasket on a BMW 535d? (m57 engine) can't seem to find any videos for that engine. Thanks

is it possible for my n53 oil cooler to leak in to the auto transmission bell housing ????
Done my gaskets last week thanks to you and this video mate 👍 cheers
Do you have a video for the n53 engine? or is it the same process
Can you link the tools please mate

tips for a stripped bolt ?
Red coolant? I thought the n52 cars were green coolant?
Thanks. I was about to take the intake manifold off
Does this video also apply to BMW 128i N51 engine?
Yes it does
Can the oil filter housing warp?
i dont think so but you shouldn't tighten one fully and then the other one, just put them all in and do it bit by bit
Do you have a link to the vanos solonoids
you should buy that oem man
How do you remove the plastic engine cover?
If you are seriously asking that I think you need to come away from this car
Torque? Drehmomente?
35 nm i think
So if my mechanic estimates this at 3.2 hours of labor for the same job is he full of shite? Looks to be a half and hour at most.
Hey doc, just got myself into a shitload of trouble. I stripped de front bolt :o

Just replaced the oil filter housing gasket, bought replacement from main dealer as it was convenient, but cost £24.53 , part no. 11 42 8 637 821
That’s very good to know now you have the original part you will have no leaks for along time
Also did the cooler gasket Bmw part no. 11 42 8 637 820 £22.83 from bmw dealer.
