Super Clean 1993 Toyota MR2 Turbo - One Take

  • This MR2 used to be a daily driver, but somehow stayed super clean. It now features all kinds of rare JDM parts from TRD and a swap from the Caldina. Nearly 300hp easily moves it's 2,600 lbs and brakes from Wilwood stop it on a dime. This car combines all the pleasures of a momentum car with a wide turbo power band in a nice streetable package.
    Check this thing out on Wheelwell for the full parts list:

    Voice for radio, face for TV! Beautiful car, too! 😜 Lake Hughes road, especially the early, open part, is one of my favorites. It's a blast!

    David,
    Its unfortunate that a great video like this didn't get uploaded to his channel but I'm so glad Matt gave you the rights as its pretty awesome and it showcases your car very nicely. I had also forgotten that you guys went the other direction on the road, the twisties really suit your car, it sounds great as well(sound on my video wasn't as clear).
    Awesome Car and Video man!

    If & when you swap over to an E153, be sure to get a Quaife differential in it. It makes the OEM viscous LSD feel like junk (which it is anyway). Great video!!

      In my years I've owned these MR2s: '85, 88-SC, and 91T, all bought new. I kept the 91 for 11 years. I've had far too many dreams of buying the 91 back. I mean really dreaming about it, not day dreams. Engine management for the car seems to have come a long way since the days of signal-intercepting modules from HKS, etc. :) Keep us posted, man. Vicarious living ain't half bad when the real half is doing such a good job of representing.

    Is this car still on the S54 transmission? Gears seem shorter than mine.
    CT20b or an ATS CT21 Blackjack would transform this car.

    • @SnowWhiteMR2

      In this video yes, but it now has an E153 with LSD

    • @negativeindustrial

      @@SnowWhiteMR2
      Which do you like better? Sometimes I think I prefer the old gearing but I have no good reason for it. I certainly don’t miss my CT26 turbocharger. 🤣 Your CT15 has very early spool. I can hear it in the video.

    • @SnowWhiteMR2
      @SnowWhiteMR2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@negativeindustrial yes the turbo has a very quick spool which accentuated by the very short piping I have. The S54 is fun! It makes the car feel very fast because you're going through the gears so quickly, but the E153 is actually quicker from what I can tell because you're not changing so often. It's waaaay better on the freeway too. Also, nothing beats having an LSD haha

      @@SnowWhiteMR2 I do have one question, as I’m in the process of looking for an MR2, there is one in diamond motorsports in Lisle, Illinois that’s for $16,800 . Red 1993 MR2 turbo (original) with 124k miles and supposedly it’s offered with a full detailed replacement of timing belt and engine upkeep after pulling the motor. In your experience is that a price worth paying or if it’s too high what’s the ideal price for a car like that.

    • @wyvernzero7642

      I never realized that the gen 4 3S-GTE was legal in California. I'm moving to L.A. some time next year to continue school. So I'm trying to juggle what swaps are legal and what are not.

    • @SnowWhiteMR2
      @SnowWhiteMR2  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wyvern Zero Definitely research that first.

    • @50paeday
      @50paeday 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't think its legal since im not sure the jp engines ever came with ca emissions things like egr stuff.

    • @eveg4737
      @eveg4737 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're moving to California and also swapping for a 3sgte or any JDM engine then you would have to pass the smog test "legally" and then you'll be fine. I doubt you want to put in smog reducing equipment on your car, since the goal is to make HP :)
      So all you need is, 1)drivers license 2) car title 3) smog certificate which most of the time when completed at smog station they send it to the DMV via electronically.

    Ok, I'm gonna play the Devil's advocate here and this is solely to help you out as a TH-cam video creator.
    I have watched your videos for quite some time now and have always had the reservation of you being a bit socially awkward... You're quiet, not confident, when you speak of the specs on the engine/work done to the car you are always un-sure of yourself, sounds like a single spoiled child (this is totally me making assumptions so take it as you will, /flamesuit engaged) . I imagine most of the reason is because you are not very mechanically inclined and you have not built the car yourself nor do you understand proper physics. This is one of the reasons why your video was not posted on Matt's channel as opposed to the other car. I know this car also started as a N/A model so there are quite a lot of small minuscule things that really do bump up the "quality of life" aspect with the MR2 especially with it being mid engine RWD so that certainly doesn't help either so you will always be nickle and diming yourself to death just trying to get to a turbo models baseline. I hate to be derogatory but you have to be more confident in your car because you need to understand that the economical situation of this car at present time is owned more or less by minimum wage earners struggling to even own a sports car and the fact is you need to learn more about your car and what sets itself apart from others currently in SoCal... The gen 4 swap is the only thing you have going and yet you use a crappy S54 trans and an OEM intercooler it just makes everyone else think what else did you cheap out on? TBH there really isn't anything that sets your car apart from the crowd aside from the Regamasters and even then you see these dinky tiny little brakes behind it and it does the wheels no justice so the only advantage you had has been lost before it even got a chance to shine if you know what I mean. Please take what I am saying with a grain of salt it is meant to help you out in the long run! Any exposure in the MR2 community is good exposure and we certainly need more of it! These cars are certainly a rare and amazingly ergonomic car...
    P.S I have and SW20 with a gen 4 as well I just don't ever post mine because I have had cars stolen in the past and I just feel that it makes you a good candidate for thieves...

      HONEY BERRY I guess maybe because I'm not American and I don't sugar coat my speech? I've found that most people appreciate real feedback because it actually improves the person as a whole instead of wondering "why did my gf break up with me" if u catch my meaning... just being straight up brutally honest... 2 options cry and quit or rage and improve...

      I get that constructive criticism is good but I have a major issue with this one. A lot of what you wrote are a bunch of unfounded assumptions on his personality which then takes a downwards turn into a scattershot rant. How do I know this? I know David personally and what you wrote is the farthest thing from the truth. He has a lot of knowledge on automobiles and has done a lot of the work himself. I mean it's so inaccurate that I could write a book rebutting this whole rant. Sorry to say but most of your post is reaching at best. (I saw your disclaimer, but to make your arguments relying on assumptions that has a shaky foundation as yours, I would've been astonished if any of what you said would be deemed as "helpful" in David's future videos.)
      I guess, all in all, my constructive criticism to your constructive criticism is to just tell him to upgrade his car more to make it more unique or tell him to be more enthusiastic and avoid unnecessary attacks on his character based on wild guesses. Bless. AIO Edit: A word and a missing sentence.
