As a renovator for over 30 years, it is both laughable and frustrating to see modern home renovation shows where the hosts often hand sledge hammers to homeowners and have them smash through walls and cupboards in the demolition process. Particularly in older century homes, demolition needs to be a careful disassembly because what is hidden in the walls is unknown. Not uncommon to find decommissioned electrical wiring, or capped gas lighting pipes still containing gas buried in the walls.
Just to let you know, that window we also had in one of our Monasteries. It was the infirmary, and that tiny room was for Sisters who were too ill to attend Mass in the Chapel. They sat in a wheelchair or movable bed and could see the Mass from the window! I love to see what you’re doing with this magnificent building.
I remember when I was younger. My friend discovered a secret room in his grandfather’s house. In they’re living room there was a big fireplace. To the side of that was a floor to ceiling cupboard. The back of the cupboard was a panelled. Which turned out to be a door. When you stepped inside, it led upstairs by a narrow staircase, to a secret room. Which was full of very old furniture and an organ. My friend’s parents never knew it existed. They were so surprised
Yes that would be so cool you have to wonder all the time why these rooms were closed off. One's imagination can get away with them LOL. Some places way back maybe it was the rooms that weren't insulated would be one Theory
@@annemarierowe6967 as the room had some furniture in it. I assume the grandfather knew about it, but never told anyone. The house is an old Victorian house going back about 150yrs
As an ex Novice (long time ago) I can tell you it is highly likely that this window allowed sick nuns who were confined to the Infirmary (I think that area was part of their hospital?) to participate at Mass. A lovely revelation.
I do this all the time, in my yard. When I do it, there is no inspirational music, only back pain. I love montages! I wish everything worked like that in life! That was some hard work right there.
I'm glad you respect the Convent and the Chapel. It shows you have a good heart. The roses are lovely and more plantings such as flowering shrubs would be pretty in the courtyard. I would have kept that little tree by the door.
The transition when Alexander and you were playing with the chair and then he walked into the chapel was breathtaking. You must be a videographer. Can't believe covering up that window. Wonderful that you've uncovered it!
It is wonderful to watch something being brought back to life rather than being torn down and unappreciated. I really like that you’re sharing your journey with us. You are all turning into wonderful crafts people. Keep the videos coming we love them.
When Alexander walked into the chapel I felt like he had walked into a holy place. Also I wanted to express my respect for you and your family for doing such a fine job; and of course the team of men(and women) who are helping to make this a quality renovation.

Oh, my gosh; what incredible windows! So beautiful- can't believe they were walled-up! Love those discoveries! My sister and I recently moved into a 150 yr-old Victorian, and there was a window seen on the outside that we couldn't find in the house. While cleaning out the upstairs, we discovered a little tiny door behind all the stuff, and lo and behold, we found a whole hidden attic space, complete with the missing window! We call it Narnia; it's awesome. Take care!
Yes, you have it right. It's a viewing room that the older nuns would have used to hear Mass. The priest would then bring the sacrament up to them after the service was over. Absolutely lovely window! Enjoy your prayer-filled office. Prayers seep into the walls and the peace they bring abides.
As an amateur musician, I can't help but imagine having musical performances in that chapel. Imagine having a choir behind that window, opening it to loft their voices over the audience seated below!
LOL on Alexander clearing the garden, how dare you make him work in his fancy clothes and shoes! You two together always make me laugh, Alexander is a good sport 😉
Billy, bless you for restoring this convent. It is going to be beautiful and I am really looking forward to the restoration of the chapel. You have such a wonderful respect for history and the beauty of things. You are a good soul and have wonderful help in your family and friends.

Thanks! If I lived in France I'd volunteer to help restore the chapel just for the fun of it since I'm retired from carpentry/ restoration after 40+years. I miss the satisfaction at the end of the day.

Please ask Alexander to dress appropriately and use PPE, too 😂😊💜 He looked like he'd never done a job like that before in his life, which was funny and sweet, but still definitely get dressed for the occasion 😂😊
Imagine Gregorian Chant, or Hildegard of Bingen playing softly in the chapel below, and you sitting at your desk with the window slightly open. A bit of heaven.

Thank you for sharing your progress. My heart jumped when you opened the door to the window. I believe this discovery is just another gift from above for all your energy, enthusiasm and heart towards repairing this enormous, historical convent. You're so thoughtful to add beautiful music and historical information. Watching you and your sweet family trips to the hardware and antique stores gives me a perspective of what is available to you for supplies. Yesterday, we just turned on a pump from an old well and water gushed out filling an old water tank 1,000 gallons in two hours. We consider that liquid gold. I can't wait for your next video.
That brought tears to my eyes. Amazing. The Chapel is spectacular. So eerie in it's present state. But once you opened up the window it came back to life. Truly amazing. You were meant to save this convent. Not a coincidence. Bravo.

Awesome discovery! I would love to visit the Convent! Having gone to Catholic School for 8 yrs (1st-8th grades), I appreciate your efforts to restore this structure’s beauty.
In the UK and Ireland there are plenty of Orthodox communities from Romania and other Eastern countries who have to have the Holy Liturgy in improvised spaces like classrooms/ offices, etc. It would be really really nice if you contacted them and rent the chapel to them.
The golden light that comes through that window is stunning! I would think it would be for sick nuns to see Mass. In the Abbey near my home there is a space like that but it wraps around three sides of the church. The infirmary is near one side and the older or sick monks can see Mass from there. In their church the space is called a triforium. Thank you again for your respectful care of this convent. I am sure the good nuns who lived there over the centuries are praying for you and your dear family
Thank you for sharing as you go along! My old, formerly Roman Catholic, heart sings with each new discovery, and this one nearly made me cry with joy! I can appreciate how much work everything inside and out is because my sister and I have tackled restoring our childhood home. A much smaller project than yours, but big enough for two lil old biddies 😇 much love from Oklahoma!
Man that chapel with those other large spaces beyond would be an all in one spot for weddings and receptions not to mention catering in the old kitchen. Magical place for wedding photos too.
The convent doesn't stop giving Billy if it's not the beautiful building it's the hidden secrets of the garden and hats off to the men doing cleaning all the overgrowth 🙏🙏🙏
What a nice reveal! Your convent reminds me of a convent in which I have previously taught bobbin lace making classes. That particular convent has been modified into a retreat and conference building with simple overnight accommodations and large rooms for class meetings.
The back corner of the convent being revealed was amazing 👏🏼 but the hidden window, just spectacular. The enthusiasm you show as you share the restoration of this wonderful piece of history is like watching a kid in a toy store. 😀 I look forward to the cobble work and then the finished results. Thanks for letting us be a part of it all. God bless and keep you and your family, friends, and online family. 🙏🏼
The chapel walls are magnificent. Keep up the good work Billy. The convent angels are singing blessings. I wish you the very best. May the convent be a joy to you and your family.

The opening sequence of this video with the clearing of the garden steps of the Ivy was so beautiful. The close ups, the slo-mo, drone shot and other artistic choices with the music were absolutely outstanding. What a pleasure it is to watch the progress of work and the evolution of your cinematic storytelling. I look forward to each weeks installment. ❤️
Your office is now the belle of the ball! 🙏 I can feel all the loving prayers that came from the Saints who were in that room praising God and all of them are grateful you're treating that place with such great care and love. God bless you for your efforts and may God continue to protect this lovely place. I pray it continues to be a blessed place to share the gospel, received miracles and embrace the coming Great Awakening of the Holy Spirit!
Hola Billy. Estoy asombrada del gran trabajo que estáis haciendo. Me encanta.
Another epic episode. Steve and Rick are such hard workers - constantly uncovering little treasures under the overgrowth of vegetation. Discovering that chapel window gave me goosebumps. The light coming through there was heavenly - truly! Music was perfect throughout. Thanks, as always, for taking us along on this beautiful adventure. Maine USA
Your videos are so amazing Billy... Photography, editing, music... You should have an award named after you and get the first "Billy Award 2022" 🏆👏🙏❤️ Always such a treat watching 😎 Thank you for taking us on this journey with you all 🙌
Billy, this was glorious. Your editing is fantastic. It was great to see Ernest helping out - valuable lifeskills being learned there. Rick, Steve and Marley are doing amazing work in what will become a stunner of a garden. Can't wait for the greenhouse to be in action. The roses are beautiful and so deep red. Bless Alexander, he isn't cut out for tough gardening work, but he gave it a good go, many kudos for perseverance and effort! Your new window onto the chapel is intriguing, worrying, because of the risks it poses, but a real find. Maybe Michael could paint some of the panes to make it into a stained glass feature. That office would be good as a small sitting area for relaxing in after a hectic day of filming. I suspect the window may have been for letting the music and services be heard by those in the infirmary, but there could be loads of reasons. Well done, team Petherick, this story is so compelling. Thanks.❤
It’s clear you love what you’re doing and when you love what you’re doing it’s not really working in a sense it’s pursuing your passion with full steam ahead!!!!
Blessings to you and all who are involved in bringing this beautiful historical building and holy chapel back to its former glory. The magic is all coming together..Mother Nature's gift of the beautiful blooming red roses to the amazing discoveries awaiting every turn. Enjoy this amazing journey, as we all will. (Please remind Alexander - Safety first.)
What a wonderful office that will be. I agree, it was probably for the nuns that were ill and either couldn't go down to chapel or maybe had a contagious illness and didn't want the other nuns getting it. When you are working on the chapel, it would be lovely to put in a very beautiful playlist of classical music...very softly played throughout the day. Just a thought. You Tube has a lot of them, music to read by, music to study by, music to heal the heart etc. Have a Blessed day and thanks for sharing this secret.
You made me squeal with delight seeing you open it up!! Just wish you would get rid of more of the modern stuff rather than painting it up. Love watching you!! Thank you for sharing your journey with me! 💜 from 🇨🇦
How wonderful to discover a beautiful feature its going to marvelous when finished you are so lucky to have rescued this beautiful convent you all take care and have a fabulous week xx.
I love everything you all have done, and the window you found is so beautiful. But I was looking at the artwork on the walls, when you opened all the window to the right. I would love just to spend a day looking at this beautiful nuns home. So much to take in and you are giving this home a new lease of life.
I suspect underneath all the drywall you will find paneling. I would rip up more of the drywall in that "cubby" and see what you find. There's more there. In fact, my guess is there's more to come!!! Excited for you in this adventure!!!
The Convent is full of surprises. Thank you for exposing the window, now the chapel has another light source! I’m with Alexander, the garden will be beautiful!
Enjoy a break away Billy, well deserved, I went to St Didier in the heatwave, phew! Your team are great, what a hardworking lot! Hugs to all. Kris in New Forest England
Love what you discovered in your office❣️ I think you might want to buy a box of gloves for your friends to wear when they are helping you!😁 Love that you are restoring this to its former glory!!!
I agree with the others who have suggested using the chapel as a wedding venue! It is so beautiful, and I’m confident you will work to make it even more lovely! If you have spaces you could use for wedding receptions, you could market it as a package. Grow more of those gorgeous roses, and you could have garden weddings as well!
I thought That !! Brilliant little Cash flow boost !!! Get Mo to do the catering !!! Sadie could bring the bride or groom in the carriage or just for the photos !! Such possibilities !!! 😉
"God works in mysterious ways, his wonders to behold." In the greenhouse you said there were a lot of crucifixes in the convent and you would leave that one there. I was so pleased. To paraphrase your words, it has a purpose. In fact, it was the purpose for the buildings and all the works of charity done inside their walls. Please don't be too hard on Catholics (myself included) who remain amongst your viewers. Many of us are still motivated by that very crucifix to help those in need sometimes in unseen ways. The church is made of people and people make mistakes.
How cool! A small office is not bad to have can be more cozy but to have a secret in it even more so. Congratulations 🎉 your renovation on the convent is amaze and it’s beautiful!

Wow that was more than Amazing🤗 the Covent just keeps giveing🤗
Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
It just keeps getting better and better! And those roses are absolutely stunning! They were just waiting for their moment to shine once again!❤️🙏🏼🇺🇸
Alexander is awesome he reminds me of on of my very best friends who passed away. It’s like hanging out with him again
I love making bobbin lace! Keep on lacing!
Lovely surprises around every corner. I can't wait to see the garden cleared and restored.
I’m simply fascinated each week with the progress you’ve made and hidden gems discovered. Refurbishing the Chapel will be astonishing bringing life & breath back to its architecture and art. Thank you for allowing virtual visitors to tag along on this journey!
I think dressing appropriately and having gloves would have made it all a little easier for him.
The problem with your videos is they're too short!! Fascinating stuff!
Me encanta.
Oh! The Window! I love it!
It's so much fun to watch Alexander discover how work works! Your son is beautiful and you are raising him well. A joy to watch your progress.
The textured hallways look so much better with that new paint. Can't wait to see more!!!!!!

Wow B.P. you excelled again and so has your Convent! You can feel it breathing again. And your office... blown away by that😍
Your videos are so amazing Billy...
Thanks.❤
Totally agree! Lovely comment. Greetings from America!🤗 (NewJersey)
The priest chapel in the rectory at my church has a similar window that is opened from the infirmary.
Simply delightful! Giggled and clapped like a child! Most excellent! Congratulations on your discovery!
It’s clear you love what you’re doing and when you love what you’re doing it’s not really working in a sense it’s pursuing your passion with full steam ahead!!!!
It is so beautiful. I went on Retreat many years ago at a Dominican convent in WI, & it was the most peaceful place I've ever been. I loved it.
Wow so many new finds..................marvelous.........just marvelous!!!!!
💜 from 🇨🇦
well done Billy and family a amazing project and new and exciting finds
How wonderful to discover a beautiful feature its going to marvelous when finished you are so lucky to have rescued this beautiful convent you all take care and have a fabulous week xx.
Would love to see more close ups of the panelling and paint work in the chapel
What a fantastic beautiful surprised. This building is in very good hands in deed.
I love everything you all have done, and the window you found is so beautiful. But I was looking at the artwork on the walls, when you opened all the window to the right. I would love just to spend a day looking at this beautiful nuns home. So much to take in and you are giving this home a new lease of life.
Viewing of the Mary and Jesus mural & the music...very well done. So very well done.
Thank you.
God Bless you for restoring this Covent to its Beauty. Also bring us who can not travel to these places and show the miracle of restoration. Thank you
Love what you discovered in your office❣️ I think you might want to buy a box of gloves for your friends to wear when they are helping you!😁 Love that you are restoring this to its former glory!!!
Thank you so very much for sharing this.. ❤ 😊 ☺ 💕 🙏 💗 ❤ 😊 ☺ 💕 🙏 💗

Billy I do miss your daily blog. I’m soo proud and happy you are the custodian of the convent. I know you and Quendaline will bring the convent back to life. The chapel is so beautiful and spiritual. I look forward to all the new episodes. Take care my love and stay safe and beware of false prophets 🍺❤️👍🌞🙏🇺🇸🕊🌹🎈😇🌈
That is absolutely breathtaking - what a find! Agree that has to be one of the best rooms in the Convent!
