This is Bluegrass at it's best. I grew up listening to Bluegrass music and as a kid my dad would take us to Bluegrass festivals where I met Flatt & Scruggs, The Osborne Brothers, The Stanley Brothers and many more.
I now live in the mountains of eastern Tennessee, where my father was born and raised. There are still Bluegrass jam sessions being held here in the mountains and it is a lot of fun.
The talent that you see at these back woods shows is incredible.

In case no one has told you the gentleman on the piano was Paul Shafer(sp) from The David Letterman Show. The gentleman sitting down was Earl Scruggs. He was one of the most famous banjo players ever! You should react to more of his work. Vince Gill was on the electric guitar and Marty Stewart was standing beside him playing the mandolin. Just an FYI, the banjo originated in Africa as a gourd with strings on it. Earl Scruggs popularized that style of banjo playing in the 1940s. Steve Martin, comedian and actor, was playing the second banjo. Paul Schafer, band leader on David Letterman's show, was the piano player. The first guitar player was country star Vince Gill. The mandolin player was Marty Stuart, another country star.

This song is most famous for being the background music behind the car chases in the 1967 movie "Bonnie and Clyde" starring Fay Dunaway and Warren Beatty. It is not wonderfully accurate but is fun watch.
