That's the LC9s, not the LC9 and it IS rated for +p. You shouldn't use +p in any of these small pistols regularly though. It shortens the life regardless of the brand. They each state this in their owner's manuals.

I love the Lc9s with a easy thumb-sweep safety and the 9 rd extended mag for a full palm grip instead of a 2 finger grip. It allows for a no-fumbling panic draw and still tucks well and 10 rd capacity.

I own the shield and the LC9S pro and for sure the better carry is the LC9 When I took the Ruger to the range for the first time I was AMAZED with how much smoother the trigger was and I have an APEX trigger on my shield. I also feel carrying the shield is now like a brick and I can't figure out why. I live in NYC and actually have the impossible to get CCW and Im not LEO nor have ever been, here you are only allowed 1 gun on the license and you can bet your sweet ass its the Ruger LC9SPro

      @suneilkumar 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I thought NYC only gave permits to politicians and rich elite? Did you see the John Stossel special where he applied for his permit in manhattan? Also, thanks for the comparison. I was severely torn between the two but your input was helpful.

    • @adamwaxman
      @adamwaxman 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Hard to get, you need to have a significant daily cash business. Cant just carry for protection. Home licenses are rarely ever denied. only if you have a major conviction on your record. Its all media lies and hype coupled with idiots that do not live in the city perpetuating the lie because they hate NYC.
Yes its a lot of paperwork, cost several hundred dollars is a pain in the ass and takes time but the ability to own a handgun in NYC is not nearly as impossible as everyone makes it out to be.
      Stay safe.

I've had significant time with all three guns and let me tell you, the Ruger LC9s is my all time favorite gun. It's thin, fits great in the hand, carries 8 rounds, good crisp trigger, and it's just a blast to shoot. I advise everyone to pick all three up and feel the guns for yourself, maybe you'll have a different opinion than I do.

The thing that drives me nuts about the Glock 43 is that the standard mags hold 6.8 rounds, I can't believe they wouldn't extend the length just by the slightest to get that 7th round.

Great review, I agree with 99% of it. I put a bigger negative on the G43 because it was only 7+1. You can get the 9+1 for the lc9s.
(makes it about same size grip as M&P)

I wound up buying the Ruger LC9s after watching your video and going down to my local gun shop with a leather inside the pant holster a 2 extra mags. I don't regret it at all. Love the gun, the trigger, the weight and can't even tell I'm wearing it and have to check to make sure it's there. Nice well made product that's pretty darn accurate.

I too just bought the lc9s pro and you are exactly right. It is fantastic. I reviewed all three of these guns before I made my purchase. The gun show where I bought it also had the Glock for only 425 so I didn't get the Ruger for the price savings. I believe it to be the better weapon for concealed carry. He's right to, it is extremely accurate for such a small gun.

Good review, I picked up a LC9s about a month ago and love it so far. Took my CPL class with it and everyone was pretty shocked at how accurate it was given its size. The one mag only thing does annoy me along with the disconnect which I will be removing sometime here in the near future. Overall very happy with it and would buy it again.

Great review. If you are concerned about people watching the videos to the end, I have suggestions.: 1. Turn the music down or off. 2. If you want to show a still - stop moving, panning and zooming on the stills, it really doesn't enhance anything IMHO. 3. Plan what you are going to say and how long you're going to take to say it. 4. Shoot for 10 or 15 minute max. Link the videos. All the best to you and yours and thank you for the review.

I have just purchased the Shield, 9mm. You asked what I thought of it, and I just fired my first almost 100 shots. I like it a lot! I did notice while shooting the flush magazine that there were a couple of baubles, or failures to cycle. My brother-in-law said it was because of "limp-wristing." I tightened up on my grip and that seemed to solve the problem. The trigger is rather stiff, and I will have to put in more range time to prevent it from messing up my aim. Overall I like the shield. Thanks for helping me with my research on getting a carry gun.

I'm ex-law enforcement w/Sheriff's Dept.,here on the Mississippi Gulf coast. In the Academy,From day 1 (in 1993) thru around the 3rd week anyway ,I carried m my dads S & W .357 mag.,and shot the only perfect score that class of 56 or the S.O.'s class that yr. (but only in the stagnant targets,prone/left handed, barricades,etc..)But,tactically with,(our academys Hogans Alley/Mach-up town,obstacles,etc...)and all physical/speed,and upcoming courses,A hand cannon,6shot,speed-loaders or not, just wouldn't cut it.so,at 1st weeks brake,it got the Glock 22. 40 cal. And then 2yrs later another Glock ,but the Glock 23. 40 cal. And when graduated & Finished top of my class,my dad's gift...his .357 mag. My point to all this trivial info. Is basically when it's an ABSOLUTE MUST,when it comes to the 3 MOST IMPORTANT attributes of a concealment, personal defense (Mine anyway...) weapon. #1.-RELIABILITY/QUALITY: i,e; If you CAN'T feel confident/comfortable in having your life or the lives of your loved one's LITERALLY in the hands of the product...Don't even consider the purchase. #2.-ACCURACY/FUNCTIONALITY: i,e.; The speed, accuracy, location of options and ability to QUICKLY utilize them #3.- Finally ,CONCEALMENT/COMFORT. when it comes to being unseen,NO IMPRINTING,It's sleek, thin comfortable feel, shape, and too+many other reasons to list,as to why my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE OF ANY 9mm and/or concealment weapons is,and has been since coming out ,is......my 2- Smith & Wesson 9mm M & P Shields. 1-(mine) w/built-in rod spring laser system. And 2nd one ,was 1st model with safety is my daughters. SO MY WEAPONS CHOICES ALWAYS unwavering,And....My heritage, being of the fatherland, but my father an officer of the U.S. Navy 23yrs. But i was born on u.s. naval base Virginia along with unsurpassed dependability and durability,ALWAYS my DUTY weapons GLÖCKS. and weapon of choice for carry.unseen or not off the job... my U.S. Made Smith & Wesson M&P 9MM SHIELD. good vids,I like and subscribed.all reading this,I recommend the same. And remember...when on target down range,to any wishing you or loved ones harm, but only When needed..."Shoot straight & true"...but to all wishing you & yours well..."ALWAYS,STAY TRUE and BE STRAIGHT". God bless, and keep up the informative vids.

::: Actually grip size of LC9s is smaller than Glock-43, smaller than M&P shield. We cold carry LC9s all day long and whole week with the feeling exactly like carrying a mobile phone. Especially those shorter guy like me, or slim female for personnel protection. And 7 round 9 mm magazine is too enough for personnel emergency protection case. Certainly, LC9s is absolutely NOT enough for professional service person's duty job, NOT enough for service person combat operation.

I just got the glock 43 today. I was torn between the glock 43 and the Shield. What made me get the glock over the shield was the trigger. The Shields trigger just felt spongy to me and had a longer reset. I like it other wise it felt good in the hand and everything. I also like the pinky extension on the g43, because it is an angled extension it seems to have little effect in its printing at least with how i carry inside the pant waste band. I dont think you could go wrong with either one really. I honestly didn't even look at ruger, are they actually a decent gun now. I remember my father having a ruger and it just seemed cheaply made, poor milling, loose all over like nothing was in spec. It worked none the less but it seemed very under polished.

Got to shoot the glock 43 and lc9s pro yesterday. The glock felt easier to shoot, as it had less recoil to it. The lc9s is pretty snappy and feels like it wants to jump out of my hand, but still controlable. Glock's magazines are easier to load and has two, so that made things easier. I'm new to guns so the sight was not an issue. What really annoyed me about the glock was having such small magazine. Even though the lc9s has just one extra round, it makes it feel bigger. As far as accuracy, I had a tighter group with the lc9s, which really surprised me given how much I liked shooting the glock. I only got to put a couple docen rounds on each, so take it for what it is. I was so torn between the two when I was going to make my purchase, ended up with the lc9s because how nice the trigger was and bigger magazine. Now that I got to shoot them I found the trigger to be a tad longer than I like and the glock trigger to be more to my liking.

An interesting review of these fine CC weapons,I have the Shield & I'm real happy with it,I think when you do the shooting test you'll find the Shield has the lowest felt recoil because of the weight & S&W installed powerful springs in this gun...duel recoil & strong mag springs. The APEX trigger makes it easy to get accurate hits & double taps.
I haven't held or shot the Ruger, but I'm sure it'll run as well.I don't have the G43 cause I have two 26's to serve the CC role.
Save all your brass cause someday you can reload 'em all & shoot for about 1/3rd the cost of new ammo.
    ...Later,bro.

Appendix carry has a major PITA factor. Too many times a guy will go, "Man, it's just too hot to put that damn holster on. I'll just carry my .32 Colt in my pocket today." So I pocket carry because I am often perspiring.
For that reason I ruled out both the Glock and the M&P because both of them print too much. They SCREAM, "HEY! There's a gun in this pocket."
But I didn't get an LC9s because the sights present too much of a risk of hanging up my pocket draw. So I got the Ruger *_EC9s_* and put a Crimson Trace Laser Red Dot on it. I couldn't be more satisfied with my decision.
NOBODY has ever noticed it in my pocket, and I can get a 2" group at 10 yards under pressure.
Total setup including a 9 round spare mag that goes in a knife case on my belt:

Stock trigger pull on my 43 was 8.5 lbs. Way heavier than any of the other Glocks I've owned. After installing a Ghost Edge connector and doing a little polishing, I got it down to 6.1 lbs which I believe is pretty good for a carry pistol. It may drop a little more after putting more rounds through it, but I'm pretty happy with it as is. Thanks for the video. Enjoyed it.

I bought my wife an LC9, she didn't want to even consider it. She got her TX CHL with her older gen 3 Glock 19 and won't consider anything else. It's her choice, and not a bad one. She is familiar with it, used to it, happy with it, shoots well with it. So LC9 went in safe, where it still resides today. I'll stick with my Glocks myself for the same reasons.

I've used all 3, and chose the shield. It feels the best in my hands...After purchasing the shield I installed the apex aluminum trigger and duty carry kit, along with the ameriglo I dot night sights. Now this shield is on a totally different level. Awesome and I wouldn't change a thing

Please address issue with GLOCK 43 Magazine not being able to insert at slight angel. It hits the mag release because it is single stack and the mag release is not well designed for single stack. The magazine if inserted at a slight angle to the right it hangs. It causes it to stop and could be an issue. Please address as very few people have addressed it. My first gun was a Glock 17 great so I like Glock but being fan boys is not what people are looking for and more a critical review on any product is what is needed. Hope you can address the real issue. It is real to all Glock 43 including the one I have and you have. A few people are addressing the issue just thought you might look into it too.

Nothing wrong with the Ruger's sights, have them on my LC380 and they work great and all that is needed to adjust windage on the rear is an allen wrench (no real reason to adjust the height on the front sight of a carry gun meant for short range).
The Ruger needs to ship with 2 mags and figure out a way to take down without the use of a plastic retainer on the frame. Add $30+ for extra mag
The Glock needs to add a round to the magazine and use metal on the sights. Add $50+ for metal sights.
The S&W needs to slim down and look less busy.

Totally agree with all I've handled. Can't speak for the Walther, but the others. I went with the LC9s because it is uber easy to conceal. That and the Glck was over priced when I was looking. The awful Mass compliant S&W trigger pushed me away from the Shield. 10.5 lbs. The LC9s is snappy for a 9, just a bit small on the grip. It feels like a .40 to me.

I love Ruger, I'm so glad they fixed their trigger and action. I've wanted one when they first came out, that is up until I got to look at the old trigger mechanism. It use to look like the trigger mechanism you find in toy cap guns. Definitely a great improvement. Nice review man, could have added the Kahr, but I don't really like Kahr that much anyway.

It's not so easy to find a LC9S Pro new anymore. It's the same as the LC9S, only has no manual safety or magazine disconnect. I found one online and bought it. Cost me $330. I feel I over paid for it, but I wanted it. I could have found one used for $250, but I don't like buying used guns. You never know how many thousands of rounds went through one. So I get my pistol and guess what ? It's defective. The magazine release gets stuck and you have to play with it to release the magazine. I had not even fired it. Makes me think that it got passed over by many due to this, and because I didn't get to see it until after I bought it, it was my problem. Probably why it was still available. Ruger was pretty nice about it, sending me a Fedex person to pick it up and send it back. It took about 2 weeks. The repair note stated that they replaced the release spring. My question to them was how could they have sent this out from the factory like this ? What kind of quality control do they have ? And they noted that they shot the pistol 21 times to test it. And guess what ? They never cleaned it after they fired it. That was not right. After not having the pistol for 2 weeks and having to be home all day for 2 days to sign for the pistol, now I had to start cleaning it. But I do love the pistol.

Where i live the shield cost $349, ruger $319, and glock $469. The only thing i like about the glock is the reversable mag release. Being a lefty, i really like that, but im not gonna pay $100+ for that feature. All companies are well reputable, and you really cant go wrong with none. But the best bang for you buck is hands down the shield. Woulda chose the ruger, but i comes with only one mag.

There is an issue with the First GLock 43 MAG CATCH Mag could get stopped if pushed at a slight right angle. "MAG Stopped by mag catch sticking too far in"
I contacted GLOCK USA a couple of days ago and they knew about the problem with the MAG CATCH and are sending me a new catch so it is a problem. They should have made a recall at least they did mention that the new guns will have the NEW MAG CATCH. It is a clear issue why not so many people mention it is strange to me. These are all great carry guns. The Shield gets the edge with me because it can be easily modified with the new Apex flat faced trigger giving it a trigger pull and reset that can never be matched by the others. Faster and more accurate follow up shots than the other two.

Great review. I now own a Glock 26 and a Kahr CM9. The Glock 26 is a great shooter but a little bulky for CC. The Kahr is much smaller and a great shooter also but I'm not too happy with the double action trigger. I don't know what it is but I don't like the Shield at all. The glocks magazine release is a little on the bigger side. not a big fan of glock sights. feels really good in the hand though. trigger is a little stiff. Ruger's new lc9s striker fire trigger is a definite improvement of the original hammer model. good review. I would choose Ruger if it was me. Shields size would make me just decide to carry a double stack at that point... say springfield xdm sub compact or sr9c.

    Winners:
(please note: I took specifications off of the manufacturer web sites. The width, for example, is incorrectly quoted when comparing notes with the manufacturer website. This is probably due to Hegshot87 being biased towards Glock which is not uncommon. Below each gun gets a point when mentioned for overall score.)
    Capacity: Tie LC9S + M&P Shield (both 7+1)
Concealability: LC9S (the ruger is shorter and not as wide. glock wins in height only.)
Side Slide Serrations: 3 way tie
    Trigger: LC9S 5:21
    Sights: M&P Shield
    Magazine Release: M&P Shield 9:59
    Take down: Tie M&P Shield + Glock 43 11:39
    Comfortable to carry: LC9S 17:50 and 23:29
    Weight: LC9S
    Accuracy: LC9s 23:21
    Balance: Glock 43 24:56
Value: M&P Shield (due to extra mag + price 27:49 )
    **********************************************************
    Scores:
    1st place LC9s (7 points)
    2nd place M&P Shield (6 points)
    3rd place Glock 43 (3 points)

I don't think there's a question in the reliability of all 3 firearms. But when you're calling on a weapon, it's for a purpose. In the case of these 3 firearms that purpose if primarily for concealed carry. The LC9s wins in concealability, trigger, comfort, weight and accuracy. Then it ties for capacity. The LC9s wins hands down for the purpose you're calling on it for. But the other two guns are great firearms.

Nice video. For me, I think the Shield is the best value as well. I can get one at my LGS for $369, and the fact that you get two mags with it makes it a much better value than the LC9s. I have to admit that I did like the LC9s when I handled it, but I'd probably never carry one, especially given the fact that I already have the Shield, G43 and G42. I got my G43 for $425 (LEO/Military discount). I do carry the G19 EDC, and I back it up with the Shield. Mine has the safety b/c I bought it before they came out with the non-safety version.
I think any of the guns will do well for EDC, but I'd pick the Shield and G43 over the Ruger every time. In fact, I did. LOL I just don't see the Ruger being as good a value. I believe it is a nice option for someone who does not want to buy a Glock, but when one can get a Shield for essentially the same as the Ruger, it seems to be a no brainer for me, unless the 3oz makes that much of a difference. I have to agree with everything you stated in the review, with the exception that the LC9s has the best trigger. It is nice, but I don't think it is better.
I carry mine in the INCOG Eclipes or BladeTech Klipt Ambi-hostler. Great IWB options providing very low profile carry with one hand on/off operation. I do carry the G19 for my EDC/GP pistol, and I back it up with the Shield. My wife carries the G43 and G42. The Shield is actually her gun, but she prefers to carry the Glocks due to weight. I does make a difference to some. For me, the Shield is a great option for concealment in the INCOG system. Again, nice video!

I've handled all 3 of these guns. I personally like the Glock and +1 mag extension barely sticks any further than the stock plate. Really I don't get why they didn't just design it with a 7 round mag. Ruger is nice but in my experience with other Rugers they won't hold up in the long haul like the Glock or M&P. Just personal preference, I like Glock, But I think all these guns are quality. I have seen the G43 on sale at Academy for $479 so price has gone down.

Hands down the shield is way better than both of them in my opinion that is. The glock trigger is mushy and the Ruger has a reset that is all the way out to the start of the pull and with that being said shield is a better trigger and you can switch the magazine release button to the left hand side

  • @nonyabiz9487

Everyone forgets or just dont know how good the Glock 43 is. The S&W is good too however its heavier. The Ruger has a safety switch which is bad ju ju for a civilian self defense gun and a big no go for me. The Glock 43 is the lightest best quality of the bunch and may I remind everyone that it has a polygonal barrel which DOES make a difference.
