I appreciate how you made it clear that you have to be able to naturally justify the annual fees on the cards in this setup that do have them. Luckily the ones mentioned here are some of the easiest to get positive value from, but it's always important to analyze your lifestyle before getting a card you may end up wasting money on. This was a solid setup here Kevin! Great work on this one.
The natural spend is so important. Stretching to meet spend just makes people spend more overall which is *not* great! Do you have a favorite out of the 5 Spencer? 🙂
My personal 5-card setup (No AF) 1. WF Autograph - food, gas, and Travel 2. WF Active Cash - catch-all 3. WF Visa Signature - 1.5x towards Point Redemptions on Flights 4. Citi Custom Cash- Groceries 5. Amazon Prime - Amazon I'm considering switching to the Chase Trifecta for the Travel Partners, but I don't know if it makes sense.
My current 5 card setup 1. Amex Gold- Groceries & Dining 2. BILT MasterCard- Rent 3. WF Active Cash- Catch All 4. United Explorer card- United flights, vacations/hotels, & for the United Perks 5. Sam’s Club Plus MC- Gas & Sam’s Club purchases 5. Amazon Prime card- Amazon (The last two cards are interchangeable in my setup) my setup is not a typical chase or Amex setup but works well. Only one I would consider changing is the active cash but not sure what I would replace it with.
My personal 5 card setup 1. Amex gold - food and groceries 2. CSR - hotels/rental cars, general travel spending 3. Venture x - catch all 4. Platinum - status at hotels and flight purchases 5. Wife’s CSP - streaming services/online groceries after our $25k spend on the gold
That's an awesome setup! Some may say the annual fees are high, but as long as you can justify the cost year after year, it's a deal! What's your next card (if any)?
Couldn't have said it better myself! There can be cards that come close (Venture X anyone?) but just adding a couple extra cards can really optimize the return on spend of everyone's wallet! Which card do you like best Chase?
For me the ultimate 5 card setup would be citi heavy: CCC for groceries, R+ for small transactions/10% back citi redemptions, citi premier for purchase protections/TYP transfers/bonus categories, C1 venture x for travel/anything else
For purchase protection I actually meant extended warranty, 2 extra years of warranty is KING to my knowledge especially when combined with Costco’s already 2 years of protection
Im planning just a 2 card setup. CSP for all dining and Flights (5x) and C1VX for Hotel and Car Rental (10x) and then everything else (2x). I'm new to these points stuff and hope to get approved for the C1VX
I have a genuine question can you look into this. Wirh the CSR $300 Travel Credit, I know you won't earn points when earning the credit But what if the flight is like $2000, and its made with one purchase, do you still earn the 3X points on the remaining $1700 money spent on the ticket?
In the fine print, it's listed as "any purchases that qualify for the $300 Annual Travel Credit", so I would assume it would not for the whole purchase unfortunately
Started off as Team CashBack, but as I made my first travel outside my home state, I'm inching more and more towards team Travel... Currently hold the Costco Visa, Discover and Amex Gold. With the 90k in branch bonus with CSP, it makes me feel more inclined to sign up with their card for an upcoming trip I have, but having a catch all card such as the VX would be nice. Do you have any thoughts on the two for a next card sign up?
What I like about the Bilt card and the Amex gold is the transfers partners. I can transfer to JetBlue or Delta with AMEX gold. I can also transfer to United or American Airlines with the Bilt. I already have the United Explorer card mainly for when the perks when flying with United. The Bilt card compliments the Explorer card nicely. I can transfer those points to United and add them to my existing miles.
Different programs do make it a tad harder to keep track, however if they all transfer to great partners (some overlapping), it could be a great way to really boost your points!
1. Savorone-Food and entertainment 2. Venture X-Catch all 3. Custom Cash-Gas 4. Flex-for 5% if convenient I don’t really need anything else. If I have to be that nitpicky for an extra $30 a year of value. It’s not worth it. Why would I use a 5% card on groceries, if the 3x of the savorone is valued at almost 5% already.
Glad to see others also use the VX as a catch all! Yeah the trade-off of more complexity for just a bit more value may not be the best (though it's an option for those that want to put in the work!) Are you thinking of adding a 5th card at any point?
@@KevinYangIf I had to pick…Sams credit card. 5% back on all gas and Sams. That’ll free up my custom cash for something else like Home Depot or something
If you have the Chase Trifecta (preferred, unlimited, flex) and the Amex Gold. Would you still get the Venture X?...or is that too many different platforms? If not the Venture X, I was thinking about a hotel card. Either Marriott Boundless or Hilton Surpass. I appreciate any feedback...
Personally I treat the VX as a solo card that's easy to keep open year after year while giving you some awesome travel perks (that the other cards mentioned do not)! What kind of travel do you do most?
@@KevinYang Just domestic right now for about 2-3 times a year, but hopefully more in the upcoming year. Family of 4 with two little kids. Last year we did Florida, Hawaii and SoCal...and we do love to do staycation s in Vegas.
@@Ryan-iq2zd With the VX you can give your partner an authorized user card which will enable you to bring up to a total of 6 people into lounges which could be a major deal! For Vegas, the Amex Plat FHR hotels could be a good deal as well
I have long time credit but didn't apply for any new cards till recently again. Currently have the bilt/cff/csp. Was thinking of finishing the Trifecta since I'm 3/24 right now with chase, but I'm wondering if the cfu is worth it over, say, the venture x or savor one? I'm looking to travel.
@@oneboogerleft I'd say the CFU is a good earner, but the VX, if you can use all the credits, would be great. Especially given you'll have Priority Pass access at least!
@@Ramonphotography Since you have the CSP, that rules out the CSR. That really leaves the Amex Plat or the VX. For the Amex Plat, if you can justify the annual fee with all the credits, that could work. If not, the VX is probably the better choice given easier to use credits and still giving you lounge access!
Chase Quintet: CSP, Freedom Flex, Freedom Unlimited, INK Cash, INK Unlimited. Huge points rake; the whole setup costs me $45 net annually after CSP $50 hotel credit. This is my ultimate 5 card setup. I've also added the BILT card, call it my 6 shooter!
That's a great setup! I have the full set minus the Freedom Unlimited haha. Do you plan to solely stay in the Chase + Bilt ecosystem? Any others interest you?
Got approved last week for the Venture X and the CSP on the same day🎉! I tried to go for the bilt but was denied 😔 O well can't have them all. I recently closed my CSR luckily its been more than 48months of opening 90k bonus here I come. I don't know why people love the Amex gold I can't justify it I'm looking for a card that I can use at Costco since I mainly shop for groceries and gas there. I know Costco has a CC but I'm team travel not cash back.
Congrats on the double approvals! How long did you wait between your CSR closure and CSP application (and did you consider a downgrade instead of closure)? Haha yeah if you primarily shop at Costco then the Amex Gold may not be the best!
Gold makes no sense to me either. Pretty much have to be a millennial without a car living in a major metro area to make the credits work. Notice how all the people making the videos saying how great the credits are fit this description.?
Closed CSP March 11 and did the double application on April 6. The downgrade never crossed my mind as I thought I could only hold 1 sapphire product at a time plus i wanted the new card bonus again i just lucked out they had raised it. What I did find out I was able to do was move my available credit from my CSR to my freedom unlimited.

It's so crucial to optimize your credit card setup for your spend like this. There's no way someone can just use 1 card for everything.
