    Great stuff Spencer! The Sapphire Reserve was one that I was considering including in my video as well. Great points about the hotel and airline cards you talked about here! Appreciate the response to my video!

      I appreciate you offering up the challenge! This was one of the more fun videos I’ve made recently for sure. I really could have gone so many ways with this one, but I feel like this setup really fits my strategies the best rn. Chase always has more for me to like it seems!

    The CSR now offers hotel status with Marriot, Ennismore hotels, and of course the luxury hotel collection. Also the CSR offers car rental status with Avis, Audi on demand, and National car too. I just product change my CSP to the CSR and can really see that Chase’s program is steadily improving.

      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh wow that's news to me! It seems like it's really not that hard to extend that trial status until 2025 which is pretty awesome. The CSR is definitely a solid choice in my opinion!

    Great setup Spencer! It was really fun to watch you build it out, and then go into the reason why you wanted each card, and how they worked together to form your overall setup. I'm happy that I was able to convince you that there's definitely value to Marriott properties, despite their rewards system not being as good as Hilton or Hyatt. Like you said in the video, the Boundless is where to start, and if you get an awesome SUB, this card can still generate 35k FNAs year over year, and you can PC to the Ritz Carlton card for those luxury stays whenever you feel ready!

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much Stan! You were a big help in convincing me of the Marriott card strategy. The beautiful thing about it is what you mentioned at the end… if you start with the Boundless and realize you actually don’t wanna go the full luxury route, you don’t have the PC to the Ritz but can still benefit from one FNC a year. I’m excited to get this strategy started though! You’re the man Stan!

  • @KevinYang

    Sooo close to 10k! That's a great setup Spencer! Great comparison about the Amex Plat vs CSR too. I think there's definitely two different crowds that will value those cards differently, so it's interesting to see how people would use each card! Really gotta jump on the Marriott train if the perks all stay the same and I can match that to upcoming trips in the future.

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      We're getting there man!! I'm hoping by the end of the weekend we'll finally hit it. And I'm glad you like the setup too! I definitely tried to make it as clear as possible that the cards I'm getting may not be the best for everyone, but they work really well for me, and that's all that matters. As for the Marriott cards, that new Boundless bonus may have just expedited my journey with them... we'll see 👀 Thanks for watching man!

    Fun exercise. I can definitely appreciate your recommendation of the Sapphire Reserve or USB Altitude Reserve for economy domestic travel. Personally my regular travel is between two airports that each only have one lounge which both happen to be a delta skyclub. So for me a priority pass wouldn’t do me much good. So I got the AMEX Platinum and do about 3 to 4 visits to skyclubs a month. Like you say what’s best for one person isn’t going to best for someone else. If my main airport had a priority pass restaurant then the CSR or Ritz would suddenly be way more valuable to me.

    • @Sci-Fi_Fan296
      @Sci-Fi_Fan296 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can totally relate. I just renewed my Platinum because there are no priority pass lounge or restaurants available to me currently in my home airport. However, Chase is rolling out soon with a Saphire lounge here in Phoenix and that might really change things by next year when its time for me to consider renewal.

    I totally agree on the value that the CSR provides. For the way I travel the primary CDW combined with increased status at National really adds a lot of value. That plus the peace of mind that comes with all the travel protections (I had a SW flight get cancelled while away in Georgia and was able to use the trip delay insurance to recoup over $400). Also, for us Austin area types, now we can get access to the Sapphire Terrace at ABIA which I for sure will be checking out next time I fly!

    I have PP lounge access with the VX (and I use all 4 AUs) and the motivator with me for Chase is the transfer partners which I get with the CSP. I like the CSR a lot but it would probably take either a refresh on the CSR (which is needed) or some additional “nerfing” on the VX for me to pivot at this point. Mileage may vary as they say, great content!! I also just got the WOH card and booked a Hyatt stay in 4/24 at around ~4.2cpp, which was my third redemption, learning as I go, thanks for all of the advice!!

The 30 nights were all point nights at 2,500k a night off peak in a mattress run for Globalist until Fed 2025 through Bilt rewards. Travel hacking is credit card hacking.

      Thanks so much for the kind words! And while you can use Chase points with SW, the companion pass basically gives you a buy one get one free pass for up to 2 years. With a SW card you'll be earning SW miles for the one ticket you purchase which gives you points at the same time. If you didn't wanna go the companion pass route, you could use the CSP to get 2x back on your SW purchases which is what I would most likely do rather than getting a SW card. But if you're going for the companion pass, you might as well use your SW cards for those purchases. I'm not sure I fully understand the question, but hopefully that clears things up a little bit!

      That's a very interesting DP! I imagine that information changes depending on the customer service representative... Maybe they misunderstood how it impacted business cards since business cards won't add to your 5/24 count, but from a lot of folks experiences, getting denied for a business card because you're over 5/24 is very common. If you are in the UR world I still hold a FNA cat 1-4 (3.5k - 18k UR) is not alot. WoH biz offers more for less spend per point IMHO compared to the personal card.
    Thanks for the video!

    I would love the Hyatt card, but they haven't offered anything special on that card lately. It covers the fee with the free night, but the multipliers aren't very good. Chase needs to offer more.

    You mentioned that you planned to get in a future the Amex Platinum ( regular) and the Schawb Version. Amex now includes all 3 versions ( regular, MS and Shawb) as one Family. You can get the bonus just in one card. A Big Bummer ,

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's a big negative and something I was alluding to when talking about those cards. At the end of the day, it only ever makes sense to get the elevated bonus on the Vanilla version now, but I'd still cancel that one at some point and open the CS Plat with no bonus if I had to. I'd still have to apply for both though to get the most value from the SUB. Definitely a bummer!

    I upgraded to the CSR from the CSP about 10-15 days ago and I'm alrrady loving it! I've already gotten the $300 travel credit (it posts sooo fast and $2 was for metered parking so that shows the range of "travel") And Im looking forward to the 3x on travel since Sept and Oct is loaded for me. (Lots of PP Westward Whiskey at PDX for me!) Ritz Carlton card is definitely in my future too! Luke has talked me out of the WOH for now... lmao

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's awesome man! I can definitely see myself doing the same soon enough with my CSP. I could definitely get positive value from the CSR, so eventually it just becomes a matter of time. Luke has definitely tried to talk me out of the WOH card, and while I still think it's worth it for me, I'll be going for the Marriott cards first. The WOH isn't a necessity card unless you're trying to get status or something, but again, a free night is a free night so I'll be adding it at some point 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @druiz012
      @druiz012 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial agreed! I am definitely going to add it at some point...and I was considering doing it this month (as I have 5 paid stays in properties where I'd get less than 1.7cpp redemptions) but woth only 4x with the card and 3x with my CSR it's not a big difference... and that Bonvoy Boundless 5 50k certs with 5k spend is just way more enticing right now...

    I am very surprised that you pick csr given you also picked ritz: given the essentially priority pass membership from the ritz card, that’s you are valuing the elevated multipliers at $250/year, you must be a big spender 😂

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well there are many more benefits from both cards than the PP membership so I justify the cards in other ways.

    Awesome video as usual Spencer! A question regarding Chase. If I opened a CSP last year, can I product change to the CSR (now) and still be eligible for a sapphire bonus 48 months from the original date I opened the CSP, or will the clock reset if and when I product change from CSP to CSR?

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much! To my knowledge, your clock would have started after you get the bonus on the CSP. Therefore, even if you PC it or cancel it before the 4 years is up, your clock is still gonna run.

      Based on the 5/24 rule, I would say no. With that being said, I personally saw others get approved for Amazon Visa with 5/24. Maybe they're lenient with co- branded cards.

    Hello, Mr. Spencer!!! I really enjoyed the video of you exploring all of the features of your dream card setup. However, in my case, just about all of these credit cards are off-limits to me since my credit score is 532 and tanking from there. It's only a matter of time before I'm in the 400 club. 😢

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there professor! I really appreciate your support! I'm sorry to hear you're struggling to bring that score up. I've made some more in depth videos about how you can raise it, but in reality, the simplest things you can do to start that process is to make sure you're paying off all of your card statement balances on time and in full every single month and if you can keep a lower utilization on your cards that really helps too! Hopefully my other videos help you out as well though!

    Hey Spence, I have a big purchase coming up (~3-4k) and I’m looking to apply for a new card to take advantage of a sign up bonus. I’m over 5/24 so Chase isn’t an option, can you help recommend a business/personal card to put it on. (FYI I only have Chase atm)

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Robby! The immediate cards that come to mind are Chase cards right now, particularly their Ink cards or the Marriott Boundless (for its new bonus), but since you're locked out of Chase for the time being, I guess your next option would have to be with another lender. I'm not sure what lenders you prefer or what kinda ecosystem would fit you best, but I'd be looking for the highest bonus you can find with a lender you'd get value from.
      Assuming you want to get back under 5/24 soon, a business card would be your best bet, and the first lender I'd look at is Amex. If you aren't stuck in pop-up jail, you could grab one of their business cards, or maybe even a cobranded business card like the Hilton Business. That would probably be what I went with in your situation, but idk how you like Hilton or if you're in pop-up jail or anything, so it's a bit hard for me to nail it down to one card.
      Thank you again for becoming a member btw! It means a lot!!

    • @RobertTorres_
      @RobertTorres_ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpencerJohnsonOfficial yeah reading back on the original question, I definitely should’ve added more details haha! But I definitely agree with your take on AMEX. I’ve been looking at the Marriott business card mainly because I think the Business gold cards $10,000 threshold is a bit of a stretch for me to reach.
      And thanks Spencer, I appreciate the well thought out response. Keep up the great work!

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries man! The Marriott Biz card could definitely be a good move too. It'll just lock you out of any bonuses on the Chase Marriott cards for 2 years, but if you don't care about that then you could definitely go that route! @@RobertTorres_

      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly right! That's one of the changes I was alluding to when talking about Amex. I'd still get the Vanilla Plat first for the bonus, then get a retention offer and eventually cancel it and open the CS version without the bonus. I wish they'd let us get both bonuses still and maybe they'll change that again in the future, but that change made me want the Platinum card a lot less.
