      Anakin is like that one poor area inner city kid that goes in a small parochial school under tuition assistance, and does well there but eventually no longer fits in because he feels out of place with the people who are richer. This is no offense to a public school, I am just saying I was actually like anakin, except I continued on to a new private school that was a lot larger, and on average poorer(it was thought to be rich but 40 percent of the student body is under financial aid, and the people are really nice).

      It's fucking awful. There's blame to put on Lucas (and MAYBE Lloyd's mother, but I'm not sure about that) but it's baffling the shit he got from the common public since I could've been certain kids would have loved having a classmate that acted in a big budget movie, and I don't know about other fans but he played the part of a *nine year old kid* extremely well being one himself; there was never a point I can think of where he said anything that a kid wouldn't say.

      @brianlaneherder3666 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yep, Jake Lloyd did not do a bad job at all. He was an innocent little boy who was hired to play an innocent little boy and he played his innocent little boy character like an innocent little boy. I've never understood the hate Lloyd got. People actually hate the character because they don't think little kids should be in Star Wars .... but that is hardly the fault of the kid cast to play him. The trap with child actors is the either over-emote, or they try to play it like an adult, or they are wooden ... Lloyd was none of these things. I strongly suggest that the people who criticized Lloyd's acting were likely young people who didn't have children yet.

    While I’m not going to deny that Anakin is complicitly responsible for the crimes he chose to commit as an adult, you have got to admit that the Jedi Council and Republic played a large part in fucking him up by allowing this slave child to join the order, isolating him from his mother, emotionally abusing him, neglecting him, letting him speak alone to Palpatine, and deciding that it was still a good idea to teach this kid how to use a power that they knew he had more potential to end up abusing as a WOMD with all his pent up rage and anger BEFORE/WITHOUT letting him work through his anger, fear, and trauma in a healthy manner. All they did was make it worse by refusing to accommodate to his emotional needs and break him more. Honestly, the saddest part about Anakin’s fall to villainy was that it was entirely preventable, not just through his own choices at the end in his selfish desperation, but by Padme, Obi Wan, Yoda, the entire Jedi Council, and the Republic.

Screw the no Jedi code about forgoing attachments. The Council should have freed Anakin’s mother. That would have helped in his training. In the end they caused there own destruction.

I didn't know any English and it was a hard time adopting because I suddenly found myself in a whole different world living with my grandparents who I never developed a good relationship with. This was in 2001 and Back then there was no free long distance calls. So i went years without seeing my family. I Still remember my mom in tears when I took off. I watched the 25th re-release a couple days ago and I have to say this movie has aged extremely well. It drags a little when the characters are in Coruscant but everything else is a fun, light-hearted and visually engaging experience.
    Once you understand this is the "introduction" of the series, it works excellent imo. Event the foreshadowing bits are treated with subtlety. Lucas was right all along.
    You can find more creativity and "heart" in any sequence of this movie than the entire Disney sequels combined.

    You're telling me Qui-Gon or Kenobi wouldn't have came back to Tatooine with a couple hundred credits and just bought Anakin's mom from Watto? Like come on, is this what all Jedi do with force sensitive children born into slavery? Buy the child and leave their families to eventually die in slavery, for the order of peace, justice, and rights, they really only care about how to make their order thrive.

    • @brianlaneherder3666

      Yeah, it was a weak plot point. Almost as weak as the Millenium Falcon escaping the Death Star, knowing it's being tracked, and flying straight to the secret main Rebel base, instead of temporarily detouring to some fifth-rate expendable Rebel outpost and letting a couple bored technicians clean the homing beacon of the Falcon before continuing on to Yavin.

    • @Hybrid980
      @Hybrid980 3 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      It is already established in this movie that a slave is extremely expensive, Qui-Gon had to use the starship so he could use it in a bet for Anakin's freedom, this gives a clear indication just how expensive a slave is, she only got sold to a common farm family like the Lars' because Watto was going out of business and was desperate for money, the Jedi are servants of the Republic, and Tatooine is quite obviously outside of the Republic's jurisdiction, remember that the only reason they were there in the first place is because they didn't have enough fuel to get to Coruscant and so had to land on Tatooine, if Anakin had been born within the Republic, the Jedi would have found him at birth, but because he was not, they knew nothing about his existence. It's likely they almost never recruit children of slaves because of this.
      Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were obviously pressed for time and had to get the Queen back to Coruscant as quickly as possible because her planet was still under occupation, Qui-Gon's side quest for Anakin already had taken a lot of time, but as we hear from Qui-Gon himself, his reasoning for doing it was justified. As for the Jedi seemingly being apathetic to the many injustices in the galaxy, that is intentional and grows to be one of Anakin's grievances with the order itself and attributes to his fall, if the Jedi seem flawed that is because George intended them to be, the Jedi are teachers of the light, of compassion, mercy, peace, and justice, yet they also teach stoicism, total lack of emotion, and are beholden to the Republic's wishes, they cannot go on rogue missions and free slaves that are out of the Republic's territory, Anakin was a special case for obvious reasons.
      Someone like Anakin, who was born a slave, and had to witness firsthand how much injustice there was in the galaxy from an early age, hears tales about these mystic Jedi Knights, how they were powerful heroes who vanquished evil and were servants of justice and peace, understandably gets enraptured by these tales, a slave boy who is constantly oppressed under the eyes of his cruel masters, he fantasizes about being one, about setting all the slaves free, and then one day he actually is set free by a Jedi, only he has to leave his mother behind, but he can save her later, right? Well as Anakin actually grows up within the Order, he realizes that his fantasies about the Jedi were just that, fantasies. He is taught to repress his desires and emotions, to be stoic, he is taught that in fact, he cannot just go out on his own missions and free slaves, because the Jedi are beholden to the Republic's bureaucracy and to do so he would be fulfilling a selfish desire, to be giving into his passions, they are saviors, heroes, champions of the light, but they are also beholden to the Senate's desires and their stoic nature, they would free slaves, but only if they were being illegally held as a slave in the Republic, and it wouldn't be out of desire to do so, they are taught that all desires are bad.
      Understandably, these teachings are alien to Anakin's very being, he wanted to use his power to set things right, to destroy injustice, to be a hero, this is because he knows just how fucked up the galaxy is, he's seen it and lived it firsthand, but he's constantly held back by the Council, who are in turn held back by the Senate and their own stringent, stoic beliefs. This all comes to a head in Revenge of The Sith. The Jedi Order had also grown to be complacent, arrogant, and for all of their good, they are very flawed, protecting Padme wasn't the only factor that led to Anakin falling, there were a multitude of issues, Anakin and the Jedi had been like oil and water from day one. Qui-Gon was a unconventional Jedi in that he didn't always listen to the Council, and heeded his own idea of what was right, what was just, what would truly be serving the light, and had he lived he would have been the perfect mentor to Anakin, but he did not, and Obi-Wan did his best, but was so reverent to the Council and their wishes that Anakin felt that he couldn't truly confide in him.

      Republic Credits are not valued in Tantooine and have a totally different currency system. The Jedi only operate in areas controlled by the republic but if Qui-Gon were to have survived he probably would have found a way to free Shmi.

      @f-22raptorlandingzone30 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Like what griz312 said, credits have no value to the people of tatooine, and the Jedi believe allowing strong emotional connections lead to disaster (which we are shown actually has some merit since Anakin let himself be consumed in the dark side from her death and that affecting how he reacts to dreams of Padmes death)

    The actual story of the prequels was great. I think the problem vame from the fact that it was a bit muddled in awkward scenes and hidden behind things like the antics of Jar Jar. • @bencarr6074
      @bencarr6074 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. George has said that Star Wars operates as a silent movie, he wanted the audience to focus in on the picture rather than the dialogue. That’s why his dialogue is clunky at times, he makes his characters say exactly what they are feeling at that moment; there’s no subtly.
