    Today I review my Honda Forza 350 after I have ridden it for 12,000 klm over a 12 month period. I express my true feelings and show you what things I have added and modified to make this bike work for me. • HONDA FORZA 350: COULD...

    Honda Forza 350 Wobbly Front End Problem. Has anybody experienced this problem with the front of the bike wobbling when you release the handle bars at 45-60klm/h? whether or not there is weight on the back or not, the front wheel shakes violently. Feels like a really bad wheel imbalance but the wheel is balanced properly.

    David thank you for the nice video. I'm on my seventh Honda scooter SH, then Forza 300 now 350. I'm from the UK living in the south of France riding most days in the Alpes. I had big bikes in the past now I'm 74 years I get far more pleasure from the simplicity & ease of my scooter.
    Regarding the handlebars shaking I had the same problem on my first scooter with a top box, when I removed the box the shaking went away Honda said it was due to the wind dynamics at certain speeds, I changed my setup. No box
    I fitted a Givi passenger backrest, in front of than I have a large duffel bag that straps on when doing trips, it doubles up as a backrest for me.
    There are only two negatives, one the front suspension I think Honda could have addressed this problem but they didn't. Saying that I'm testing the 350 ADV next week it has Showa upside-down forks better rear shocks so in the end, they give an option of the Forza with the electric screen or the ADV with better suspension.
    The second problem is it's such a pleasure to ride you don't want to stop.
    Honda France gives a full 5 years warranty with free call out assistance, this is great knowing that after 3years of ownership I can sell it with 2 years Honda warranty remaining.
    I will let you know how it goes with the ADV test.
    Regards, Frank.

    I think the wheel wobble can be caused by lateral balance of the tyre because the balance weights are usually clipped to the middle of the wheel from new, or sometimes the weights are stuck on one side of it after a replacement tyre. That’s why some wobble more than others. You may notice with a car wheel they balance each side of it (inner and outer). It’ll hit a resonant frequency at a certain speed...

    I have a Forza and put large bags on my bike. There was no wobble for several thousand km when installed with about 3k on the odometer. Once I got to around 8k, it started. Went to several shops and they all blame the bags. The service shop in Chiang Mai suggested cleaning the plates where the cvt belt rides on and it seemed to have resolved the issue significantly. I would try this.

    I am a motorcyclist and just about to pick up my first scooter. One thing that's missing with my scooter is a parking break for those occasions that the road surface may not be ideal for the centre stand. Do you have any experience or advice regarding getting a parking break for a scooter. Best wishes from the UK.

    • @davyfbkk
      @davyfbkk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tim, thanks for the comments and question in regard to using a parking brake or how to deal with not such ideal conditions for using a center stand. Well, I use the side stand mostly and think that the side stand can handle most surfaces, except of course if you park on soft muddy ground or a slippery surface, but even a parking break can't really help in those situations, but it's important to always face your bike up-hill, so the weight of the bike is pushing against the stand to stop the bike rolling forward and falling off the stand. So I usually reverse into a parking slot which has an incline and use the side stand. Although in some situations, when I do use the center stand, I always leave my side stand down also, just incase the bike does fall off the center stand, so at least there is a chance the side stand can support it. Btw, what scooter are you going to buy?

      @@davyfbkk Hi David, thanks for your thoughts. I had seen a video of a Forza toppling over from its side stand hence the question. I am usually extremely careful with a motorbike however they have the added assistance of engine compression over scooters that i assume are more likely to roll?. My plan is to have some velcro tape readily available (that could be used around on of the break levers) should i need to park in non optimal conditions or ideally fit an aftermarket part? I'm getting the new ADV350 and will be picking the bike up on the 1st March so its a very exciting time.

    I own a forza 300, nc750, rebel 1100 and few other hondas lol I can tell the forza 300 was the best bike i ever bought. Funny that was my first scooter /bike ever.. i learn to ride on the forza 300 2018 and till nowadays even with a lot of bikes in my garage i didnt find anything with so much advantages as the forza.

    Hi David! Awesome video though I am watching after almost 8 months. Few questions please- You mentioned changing cvt belt every 20km- How do you notice you have to change? My forza 300 has done 34 km and I don’t feel anything while riding. I recently did a 600 kms trip from Bangkok! Would love to connect if you are around! I have also done same modifications as yours ! Cheers

    • @davyfbkk
      @davyfbkk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really appreciate your comments.. Basically a CVT belt or constant variable transmission belt is designed and made to provide about 25,000 KLM usage before a need to at least check it's wear status is necessary, at which in my case, I then replaced it to be on the safe side. However, depending on the type of environment and usage it is subjected to, they can last either much longer even as much as 35,000klm or worst case scenario only about 20,000klm under harsh riding conditions. So therefore there is no real guidance for this except that after 20k you should have the covers removed to clean excess amounts of dust and other particles of gunge that will build up in the casings for sure. So I'd advise to have the CVT casings removed every 20,000klm to keep things running smoothly.

    So refreshing - your video was a penny drop moment for me - bike reviews are so much more meaningful and fun when they are carried out by a non-motorbike person who wants to use the bike as a cheap and convenient mode of transport. I have zero interest in how the bike sounds when somebody is standing there revving it to the max like a moron, I have zero interest in modifications apart from what is necessary to fix issues and to be practical, and I have zero interest how the bike performs at 50 mph more than the legal speed limit. However, people who have a day job stacking shelves yet think they know how to rebuild a bike better than professional Honda engineers are a continuing source of interest. Those people must have very deep pockets because they invariably create way more issues than they address 👍🙏

    Great scooter, only let down by the forks. I had a 350 for 3,000Km and I couldn’t live with the front suspension on the less than perfect roads, mostly the concrete slab roads. I installed YSS fork kit and it made an improvement but unfortunately not to a level that I was satisfied. I’ve just sold it and first on the list for the new ADV350 with better forks.
    For your info, I was able to eliminate the wobble you showed in your video by playing around with pre-load and your correct the Forza likes to have a lot of weight in the front. The YSS kit I have max pre-load and the wobble is now minimal to negligible.
    May I suggest the Givi tunnel bag for some of your camera equipment that needs to be accessed easily. It’s a wee bit expensive at 4,500 Baht but we’ll worth. It fits just about perfect above your petrol cap, no need to use the tie downs it comes with and can be pulled out instantly, great touring accessory for the Forza.

    • @davyfbkk
      @davyfbkk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Johnny, I really appreciate your feedback. I have now ridden my 350 for nearly 13,000klm and don't really find any issues with the front forks, as they perform very well on most road surfaces, but I would like to experiment with some of the things you suggest and that bag, which sit's on the fuel filler cap area should be a useful addition for all my camera equipment. Btw, how well protected is it from heavy rain?

    • @johnnysneds
      @johnnysneds 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davyfbkk unfortunately (or fortunately) I haven’t used the bag in the rain. It comes with a waterproof cover stored in one of the side pouches. I’m overly “keen” when it comes to suspension, I initially tried the Ohlins Fork spring with heavier oil but didn’t notice a difference from stock. The YSS upgrade did however make and improvement. It incorporates a PDS valve which controls the flow of oil better which makes the ride more plush. Well worth it for 4,300 if you are handy with mechanical stuff and DIY. It’s a great Big Scooter no doubts about it, I def had a blast on it on the better surfaced roads in the north.

    The front end goes light when you add a pillion or a lot of extra weight at the back as you have noticed. To a varying degree, this is normal with most two wheeled bikes from any manufacturer. You are supposed to counteract this extra weight using the rear preload. Next time you carry a pillion you would want to put the preload up to near its maximum if not the maximum, the front end won't feel so light and the bike will steer so much better too. I just took out a BMW 400cc scooter very similar to the Forza, I am a heavy guy and its steering was awful, two extra notches of rear preload and it was a brilliant machine (a bit dear mind, I think the Forza is a better spec and much cheaper). I can definitely see one of these types of bikes in my future.

As-far-as the choice between the Xmax and Forza are concerned, all I can state is from my own experience based on after riding the Forza for 18months is that in my opinion for overall good looks the Forza 350 is unbeatable. It's a better smoother and more powerful engine plus the addition of the motorized front screen makes its really amazing.

    Are you sure there is no parking brake? My Honda PCX -160 has a small locking lever that can lock the left hand brake in position when the brake has been applied. It is my understanding that the left hand brake applies braking 60% to the front and 40% to the rear brake, on the PCX-150, and both use ABS Anti Locking Braking System at speeds over 10kph.
    My Honda ADV-150 does not have dual breaking, and ABS is on the front wheel only. I guess the ADV-150 is designed with dirt road and mild off road riding in mind. Better riders than me might use the independent rear brake for advanced off road riding. Sadly the ADV-150 does not have a parking brake lock. That is bad.
    At 80 years of age I would find the Forza a bit heavy to back out of sloping parking spaces. 150cc will cruise at the maximum highway speed of 90kph in Thailand, but we tootle around town at 50 to 60kph and rarely hit 80kph. RSI Repetitive Strain Injury, from vibration in the handlebars, coming from the engine vibration and from the road, was a problem with our Honda Clicks 125 and 150cc. But the Forza has a wobble rather than a rev vibration. Could the tyre have a flat spot, or the heel need balancing? Maybe something in the steering or frame needs tightening or adjusting?

    The steering wheel wobble problem was fixed by Yamaha engineers on the Xmax. They moved the engine forward, taking significant weight with it, so the rider is more likely to be sitting on top of the engine, not ahead of it. This is why Xmax is said to be the most stable of all the Maxi's. I suspect the reason why Honda has not addressed this problem is because they can easily blame the rider for it.

      I also have these crash bars for sale and I am happy to advise anyone who is thinking of fitting them to their own bikes.

    The wheel wobble is due to the small circumference of the front wheel...all scooters will have this problem!

    Is the X Max better? Sounds to me like it is.

      Having used my Honda Forza 350 now for 15 months, I very much doubt the XMax can out perform it. The Forza has a bigger engine and the engine dynamics are much better engineered with much better engine vibration reduction. Also the electric front screen on the Forza does a really good job of reducing wind buffeting. Overall I really like the Honda Forza styling more than the XMax.

      @@davyfbkk Really appreciate your honesty as I am considering both bikes. It's paramount that you own both bikes without prejudice to sponsors. I am a subsciber.

    Replace your rear spring with a heavier one. Should fix your wobble issue. Bike is loaded too heavy in the rear. Typical Honda problem. Research ST1300 and how to fix the speed wobble.

      I appreciate your comments but it seems rather contradictory to advise adding a heavier spring to to rear of the bike, then go on to say that the problem is the rear is too heavy.

    Some high performance motorcycles use a steering damper to reduce front oscillation such as you described.
    Finding a properly sized unit for your scooter may be easy, or impossible.
    Look at some of the literbikes, Suzuki GS1000, Kawasaki 1000 Ninja, and perhaps others. Be extremely careful when testing with that mounted on your scooter as it may overdampen and make it difficult to steer.
    Best wishes.

    100-110 is a Safer Speed than 120-130 The front Crash bar was a waste of money! And added weight is bad! I have 37,000 on my Honda Forza I’m on Michelin tires with the back tire 1 size wider since more weight is on the back tire! A 2 cyl 400 cc Forza would be better!
