    🥁 In this tutorial I'm going to show you how you can use your Nord Drum 3P as a drum computer, meaning that you only use the sound engine while the musical information will be created and sent via Midi from your DAW, in this case Ableton Live. You can use this for:
    - focusing on sound design only while your beat keeps playing by itself
    - composing complex beats that you otherwise would not be able to play by yourself. You will also see that you can compose full melodies that will be played by one pad only, meaning that you can create (theoretically) very complex arrangements on the pad.
    I will walk you through the process of setting up the connection from scratch. It will be possible without additional software. There are vst's around that you can buy, and they seem great, but this video will not require those.

    Hi, thx for your Nord Drum Videos. Really cool.
    I have a Question. When I sequence one Pad on my 3P (tried it with Laptop, MPC One, Synths and different Midi Cables) other Pads gets randomly triggered too. Sometimes you just see the green Lights flashing without hearing. Sometime you hear the other Sounds. I tried it over the Global Channel but also dedicated ones for each Pad. It happens also when I turn off the Pads.
    Do you experience this with your Unit or know why it happens?

      Hey Oki! Thanks for your comment. I know this problem from playing on a non stable surface. This way you quickly trigger pads you didn’t want to play. For sequencing though I did not face this issue yet. Did you already search the internet if others faced a same problem?

    Hey Jannis :)
    thx for all your videos, i kinda watched all of them and you have a nice and easy way to explain things ;)
    sorry für den langen text -.-

      Hey, vielen Dank erstmal für den netten Kommentar! Also 6 einzelne Audiospuren aufnehmen ist nicht möglich. Du kannst zumindest 2 Kanäle separieren wenn du nach Rechts und Links aufteilst, allerdings geht das auch nur wenn Du die internen Effekte nicht benutzt. Eine andere Alternative ist, dass Du die einzelnen Sounds sampelst und dann die Samples auf einzelnen Spuren hast. Wenn es Dir aber nur ums ausfaden geht, könntest Du ja auch einfach die einzelnen Volumes auf Deinen Controller mappen, oder? Viele Grüße!

    Hello Jannis, Thank you for creating this video it's been very helpful. Do you have a video on how to send instrument sounds such as precession drums from Ableton to the Nord P3? I love the Nord synth tones but would like to have access to more authentic sounding precession sounds and be able to play them on the Nord in real time.

    • @JannisLeWolff
      @JannisLeWolff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Vincent, thanks for your comment. Do you mean you want to use the Nord Drum as a midi controller? Then you should be able to connect it the same way as I show in this video via midi. If you record a midi track it will record the 6 pads at 6 individual notes and you could use a drum rack to drag the sounds to the pads that receive signal from the Nord. But I’ll probably make a video about that as well in the future, since putting this all in the comment is a little fiddly 😉 hope it could at least help a little?

    hello Jannis Le Wolff I follow your channel and it's fantastic it has guided me a lot, I would like to know if you have tried to control a piano in ableton live through nordrum I have tried but it makes me very short notes and I would like to know if that could be modified

    • @JannisLeWolff
      @JannisLeWolff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Oscar- first of all thanks a lot for the nice words 🤗 I’m really glad that you found some value inside my content! About the piano: you can try the „note length“ midi effect in Ableton live and see if it gives you a longer response. Also you should check at your piano plugin if there are any settings for decay/release or the touch response to it. If you find something, you should try increasing it. Since the Nord Drum is a drum pad, the response is very short, and there is playingwise not really a workaround. You have to look for those setting inside the DAW/plugin. Which piano plugin are you using? Hope it can help a little!

      @@JannisLeWolff thank you very much jannis! It's what I was looking for just to hear making short melodies... you should make a video of creating our own sounds and inserting them in nordrum I've searched the official website and I couldn't find a way to do it

    • @JannisLeWolff
      @JannisLeWolff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean putting external sounds on the pad? That’s not possible. You can either use the onboard sound engine of the pad or control any other sound generator through midi, like you did with your piano plugin.

    @JannisLeWolff, I don't understand if there's a way to make the nord drum be controlled via ableton so it will play the sounds I add - I used to play a SPD-SX which was easier to do so, but now I'd like to play with this one but I need to know if this is something that can be done... (pardon my french, cause..I am, french..)

      Do you want to send midi from Ableton Live to the Nord Drum? I'm not sure if I'm understanding your question correctly.

    receiving each pad trigger on a different channel is possible-cool! but is there any way to send each drum pad trigger on a different midi channel? i cannot find such a way in the manual. i thought it would be tied to the individual midi channel inputs, but it appears not :(

      Hi. Unfortunately the midi you send out is global as far as I understand.

    will it work equally well with Logic Pro? I already got Logic Pro.... but I just opened it,.. know nothing of music editing or synths... but I know how to play drums and sing a little bit... will your course works fine if I use Logic Pro? thanks

    • @JannisLeWolff
      @JannisLeWolff  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can also send midi from Logic Pro, but since I don't use it I can't tell you exactly how that works. About the course: it's only about developing a technique on the pad and learning to play grooves. So everything can be done even without a DAW.

      @SimplicityForGood 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      aha, so is a course to get started ?
      will you make more and more courses of playing and making music with the Nord? is really fun, I went back to the store again yesterday and played for an hour...
      I do not yet understand how to change anything on it but the kits are plenty to just have fun. But I like to learn more seriously if I would go buy it now...
      the Lopp pedal you use they had never heard of in my local store... I looked at their website but it seemed out of stock?.. do you know if it is sold somewhere else for a good price now?
      For playing Live on the street and making ones own sounds and loops to play over what machines except for the Nord Drum 3p do I need?
      the loop pedals connected to a laptop and a DAE or how it works for live performances? and what speaker for a live audience on the street would you recommend to look into?
      thanks for getting back!! really appreciate it. @@JannisLeWolff

      @@SimplicityForGood wow, you have a lot of questions, I like your enthusiasm 🔥the course is suitable beginners but gets more difficult on the go! I'd love to make more courses in the future, for now I have other courses about music production subjects though you may find interesting as well. On the street... I really don't have experience with that, so can't tell you about mobile batteries or speakers. If you buy a normal loop pedal from Boss or so you can go without a DAW, but if you use the SoftStep you would need a laptop and a DAW to make it work.

    • @SimplicityForGood
      @SimplicityForGood 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I see... what other benefits in music production in general would the SoftStep give a beginner like me learning electronic music and Logic Pro?

    • @JannisLeWolff

      @@SimplicityForGood It basically allows you to control any parameter inside your DAW with your feet. But I wouldn't consider the SoftStep being a beginner device, it has quite some learning curve.

    hello there!
    I've been trying get this to work, but I can't seem to connect my nord drum 3p to ableton at all. It's not registered by my daw.
    I'm not sure what exactly to do, in order for it be registered.
    When I create the external instrument as you showed, the drum 3p didn't appear under the "midi to" thing you selected.
    My pc sees the drum pad as an "unkown entity".

    Wow this was really helpful, thanks. I love this little thing but I get a really noticeable jump when going from one kit to another. Pretty much renders it useless for live performance. Any thoughts?

    • @JannisLeWolff
      @JannisLeWolff  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark- first of all thanks for your nice comment! With instruments that have a midi bank it's quite common - at least from my experience - that you hear a little jump when changing the patch directly while playing. I think they are just not made for this particular move, and just need this 1 second to load all the new settings.
