I felt it! I love how she didn't over sing, and she stuck with telling the story.
Too much of a ‘pop’ interpretation…😢
@@mtbottle1 No. Just a well sung, well acted and generally well performed interpretation.
@@CandleLight1974 No. just a performance that’s really not my taste. She can hold a tune but I’m surprised she was allowed to give such a modern interpretation.
@@mtbottle1 A taste that you are free to express and opinion that you are free to state but that is all that they are.
However, you are surprised that in 2019, she was "allowed" to give such a "modern" interpretation? Seriously? What next? Are you surprised that a black girl was "allowed" to play the role?
Whichever way you choose to describe it, this rendition kicks all others into touch. Everything about it. The quality of her vocals, her emoting through them and her acting. Lea Salonga with her staring into the distance, no emotion and hitting notes by numbers with no inflexion would not have got a look-in and even the beautiful triple threat that is Samantha Barks would have struggled.
@@CandleLight1974 why the urge to bring de racial theme on everything? Chill dude, he just said that her interpretation didn’t convince him, not a racial slur…
The best rendition of this song I have ever heard...
She takes the song and makes it all her own and takes it to another dimension - brilliant
I really love Shan's rendition of "On my Own", it gives me goosebumps every single time!
beautiful singing!!
She knocked that out of the park. Never heard that song done better.
Such a Stunning Performance by a Stunning Performer ..Simply Love it ...
Wow, she's amazing! 😮
Her own technique. Unique and beautiful.
Wonderful rendition. 👍🏻👏🏻
Extraordinary impact. I've never been moved by this song until hearing this.
This is very good. Even as a Lea Salonga fan this can stand on its own. I’m a fan of Shan Ako now too! She’s so good!!!
Simply freaken beautiful!
1:57 the little "fry" she puts on her voice for the "I" is yummy. Shan Ako gives a brilliant performance here. Beautiful tone to her voice ♥
EBest eponine ever (and there is some great competition!)
So beautiful ❤
Love this version. Right up there with Francess Ruffelle's version.
Wow beautiful
Brilliant!!!!! ❤
brilliant, her performance and interpretation of the song is spot on, among the best I have ever seen
WOW 🙌🔥
And now I'm all alone again nowhere to go
No one to turn to
Without a home, without a friend
Without a face so say hello to
And now the night is near
Now I can make believe he's here
Sometimes I walk alone at night
When everybody else is sleeping
I think of him and then I'm happy
With the company I'm keeping
The city goes to bed
And I can live inside my head

On my own, pretending he's beside me
All alone, I walk with him 'til morning
Without him, I feel his arms around me
And when I lose my way I close my eyes
And he has found me
In the rain, the pavement shines like silver
All the lights are misty in the river
In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me forever
And forever
And I know it's only in my mind
That I'm talking to myself and not to him
And although I know that he is blind
Still I say, there's a way for us
I love him, but when the night is over
He is gone, the river's just a river
Without him, the world around me changes
The trees are bare and everywhere
The streets are full of strangers
I love him, but every day I'm learning
All my life, I've only been pretending
Without me, his world would go on turning
A world that's full of happiness
That I have never known!
I love him...
I love him...
I love him...
But only on my own
On my own
Pretending he's beside me
All alone
I walk with him 'til morning
Without him
I feel his arms around me
And when I lose my way I close my eyes
And he has found me
In the rain, the pavement shines like silver
All the lights are misty in the river
In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me forever and forever
And I know it's only in my mind
That I'm talking to myself and not to him
And although I know that he is blind
Still I say, there's a way for us
I love him
But when the night is over
He is gone
The river's just a river
Without him
The world around me changes
The trees are bare and everywhere
The streets are full of strangers
I love him
But every day I'm learning
All my life
I've only been pretending
Without me
His world will go on turning
A world that's full of happiness
That I have never known
I love him
I love him
I love him
But only on my own
Only 10k views is wiiiiiiiild. This is so good 🥲
Shan Ako is just as good as Lea Salonga.
Can any of the innumerable performances of this song and takes on Eponine so far superior to that of "just shout and stare" Lea Salonga be spared the wrath of her clueless fans?
can you translate or re-iterate your comment to English?
Who is she? I can’t get this out of my head and I love that.
Fantastic voice.
she has a beautiful voice. That said, that was the most Meh performance of Eponine I have ever seen. There was not one point where I felt anything from it. Im not saying it was terrible, Im just saying that it brought absolutely no emotional response. Like I said, she has a beautiful voice but this just isnt her role.
I think she needs that kinda excited spark Eponine has, like the little but of life to it
I agree! Lea Shalonga is the best Eponime for me! I am so looking forward to play Eponime soon! So happy that I got the role of my dreams! ❤
I was thinking the exact opposite.
I think she is fantastic in the role. Who voice is stunningly beautiful and her expressions are subtle be no less amazing.
@@MargaritaTsoukarelasOfficial I love the Lea Salonga fans popping up as usual. Lea wouldn't get a look-in these days.
I think of this song as being part of the musical, so it needs to retain the mode of the musical. The performance here has some of the American gospel flourishes that Whitney Houston used when she sang the Star Spangled Banner at the Super Bowl. That touch seems out of place here in this song, in the context of this musical. I think it brings too much of the individual performer into the performance, in place of the character she is singing as. It feels like graffiti sprayed on a work of art, where the graffitist has left his mark on someone else's work. This shows up, for example, at 0:51, in "beside," making it "besiyi-ide," at 1:21 in "silver," at 1:34 in "of," and in other places scattered throughout. It sounds like Whitney Houston and that school of singing, but that is not appropriate here. Gospel tends to break up long-held notes with certain characteristic flourishes like that. But this song should be sung with the long notes unadorned, because it's not gospel, and there's nothing in the musical that relates to American gospel.
Underwhelming. But still good
