Lea Salonga with her staring into the distance, no emotion and hitting notes by numbers with no inflexion would not have got a look-in and even the beautiful triple threat that is Samantha Barks would have struggled.

Since that magic night during the pandemic when I first experience this magic version I have longing to see this again (and not only listening). In a good way, this version had probably made me cry more times than reasonable, and I don’t know why? It's just so... ... unstoppable? I simply can't get bored at this version. It's so much more than just extremely beautiful and true.
One difference I noticed with this version from others is that she's furious (jealous?) about Marius' "world will keep on turning" and "full of happiness", while the other versions I've heard of were more just focused on Eponine's own love and sadness. This is, in a way, more similar to Hugo's original Eponine, who is much more manipulative than the musical version.

she has a beautiful voice. That said, that was the most Meh performance of Eponine I have ever seen. There was not one point where I felt anything from it. Im not saying it was terrible, Im just saying that it brought absolutely no emotional response. Like I said, she has a beautiful voice but this just isnt her role.
