Available in LX, Sport and EX-L
Larger and more powerful 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine
Updated continuously variable transmission (CVT) improves response and efficiency
New Step Shift programming simulates gear changes under acceleration
Improved available Real Time AWD features enhanced traction management on snow
Honda-first Hill Descent Control is standard
Econ, Snow, Normal drive modes for custom driving experience
    Larger, More Powerful Engine
Powering all HR-V grades is a new, larger 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 158-horsepower (SAE net at 6,500 rpm) and 138 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net at 4,200 rpm). The new engine represents increases of 17 hp and 11 lb.-ft. of torque compared to the outgoing HR-V.
A new catalytic converter reduces emissions to the SULEV30 federal standard while using a minimum of rare metals. HR-V's first Idle Stop system aids fuel efficiency.
To help minimize noise and vibration, HR-V's 2.0-liter inline four has a lightweight die-cast aluminum block with a bedplate main-bearing design that creates a rigid crankcase assembly. Cast-in iron cylinder liners provide long-lasting durability. Thin slits between each adjacent cylinder sleeve help improve engine cooling and knocking.
Each journal on the lightweight heat-forged steel crankshaft is micro-polished to reduce internal friction, helping improve smoothness throughout the rpm range and lower noise levels.
    Cylinder Head and i-VTEC® Valvetrain
The HR-V's standard 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine has a lightweight DOHC cylinder head that is made of low-pressure cast aluminum alloy. With exhaust passages cast directly into the cylinder head, the need for a traditional separate exhaust manifold is eliminated and the catalytic converter mounts directly to the cylinder head.
A low-friction silent chain drives dual overhead cams which in turn operate four valves per cylinder. The cam drive is maintenance free throughout the life of the engine. To assist cooling and detonation resistance, the cylinder head has a cooling passage placed between each pair of exhaust valves.
Combustion chamber shape and valve angles are optimized to help boost fuel efficiency and power. The included valve angle is 35 degrees, to decrease the surface-to-volume ratio of the combustion chambers and help create a flat, compact combustion chamber that minimizes unburned hydrocarbon emissions. The design yields a compression ratio of 10.8:1, yet the engine still operates on regular unleaded fuel.
A high-tumble intake-port design combines with the combustion chamber and piston crown shape to create a high level of airflow tumble. This helps create a homogenous fuel mixture for fuel efficiency and high airflow for high power output.
The 2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve i-VTEC® engine uses an advanced valve control system to combine high power output with high fuel efficiency and low emissions. The system combines dual Variable Timing Control™ (VTC™), which continuously adjusts the intake and exhaust camshaft phase, with Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC®), which changes valve lift, timing and duration of intake valve opening.
By continuously varying the timing of the intake and exhaust camshafts, VTC™ is key to the "intelligent" portion of the system. This helps increase power while also providing a smoother idle (allowing idle speed to be reduced). The cam timing is varied based on input from sensors that monitor rpm, timing, throttle opening, cam position and exhaust air-fuel ratio. The result is increased fuel efficiency and lower emissions. Under certain conditions, VTC™ can hold the intake valves open longer to allow a reverse airflow of intake air into the intake manifold, further improving efficiency.
    Pistons/Connecting Rods
Designed with "cavity-shaped" crowns, the pistons in the 2.0-liter engine help maintain stable combustion and contribute to improved efficiency. To reduce weight, minimize vibration and increase operating efficiency, the lightweight pistons have a carefully optimized skirt design. Ion-plated piston rings help reduce friction for greater operating efficiency. Heavy-duty steel connecting rods with tapered small ends are heat-forged in one piece and then "crack separated" to create lighter and stronger rods with an optimally fitted bearing cap.
HR-V will be available in seven different colors, including the all-new Nordic Frost Pearl, and Urban Gray Pearl. Also available is Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl and Milano Red.

In the past, the base entry level cars all had the engine temperature idiot light as they called it, with upper trim models having an actual real time temperature gauge l, noticeably absent in the 11th Generation Civics, and this HR-V. I am not sure about the 10th Generation Civics off hand, as well as the top trim Touring Sedan and Sport Touring Hatchback, Si & Type R with full digital displays that I believe has a temperature gauge, albeit digital. I saw this exact trim and color at my dealership today. It's a demo model that they can't sell for another three months. First of all, the color is absolutely beautiful. It has such a wonderful metallic hue in the sunlight. Just like you said, you have to see it in person to really appreciate it. Second, I do like the more subdued styling. Some say it makes it very boring and blobby but I enjoy it. It's sleek, handsome, and has that fastback styling with the rear roof rake. Also, the fact that every light on this car is an LED at $27,000 is such a great value. Also, the lights themselves mixed with the sleek body make it more upscale like an Acura. The major drawback I have is the all black interior. Being in South Florida, that's a no-go. Way too hot! Also, it shows absolutely everything. I would rather have the two-tone interior that's available on the EX-L. To sum up, I still enjoy the design inside and out. It was a much-needed redesign on a vehicle that hadn't been in seven years!

I love this HR-V Sport and plan on getting a FWD just like this one. I originally wanted a Boost Blue Pearl Civic Sport Hatchback, but I like this even better for what I need and want. Yes, all LED lights, with Acura style taillights, and even LED outside mirror turn signal lights, two LED lights in the hatchback area, and the cool capacitive touch rear ceiling lights.
As far as the interior, the seats are more of a dark grey, and fabric, not simulated leather like the EX-L. Plus, you could always get seat covers.

On of my favorite features is the center console. Having the USB ports on both sides is a nice touch but having it be a total pass through is pretty cool. Definitely a huge upgrade from the previous gen. I do understand the design being close to the escape but there is only so much you can do with these compacts. K Tuner has an upgrade for the Civic Sport with this engine and Pedal Commander has their throttle response controller that should work on the HR-V, which is basically a Civic Sport SUV. The only difference is some CVT recalibration on the CPU that K Tuner may be able to tweak if necessary.

Great video review! I previously wanted a Boost Blue Pearl Civic Sport Hatchback, but I plan to get one just like this, as it suits what I want and need much better. I don't know if this color is just the previous Sonic Grey Pearl renamed, or a different color variation.
The color accent stitching is orange for the Sport models like Subaru has done for their Crosstrek. The ribbed styling throughout the vehicle is cosmetic, but also functional to minimize friction and scuffing damage.
Tha back door opening is common and expected and may be a structural integrity issue, and people entering and exiting the front doors with the rear doors open could scratch the paint on the rear doors.
It's great that it has full LED lights with Acura like taillight styling, along with the two hatchback area lights, the rear interior ceiling capacitive touch lights, and even turn signal lights on the outside rear view mirrors, especially on the Sport.
The magic seats were handy, but you described how the seats fold down. The other reason is more comfort with improved cushioning in the seats.
The funnel included for filling gas is if you have to improvise using whatever container you have. Gas cans should work with their nozzles without that funnel.
There are aftermarket front strut tower braces available for the Civic for improved handling and structural integrity. Someone may come out with strut tower braces for the HR-V.
The cargo and weather mats protects what's under it. You could put something like a carpeted inset. What also good is that they have the optional rear seatback protectors to save the seats from wear and tear.

This new HR-V looks so dang good, but it is painfully underpowered, especially considering it's size. It desperately needs the 1.5 Turbo or the 2.0L hybrid engine setup.

    • @jjacob25101
      @jjacob25101 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It's not the fastest, the AWD is about a second or more slower, but it's a big improvement over the previous HR-V, and the engine it should have had.
But the engine is adequate, and most of all, reliable, durable, dependable, with much more reliability. K-Tuner recently released a calibration for the Civic Sport with this engine for about $300 that bumps up the power and torque up to the level of the non Si 1.5L turbo engine.
Since the HR-V is assembled in Mexico, because of costs and logistics, such as outfitting the the assembly line equipment and training techs for the turbo and hybrid, I don't see it happening for the HR-V, though the Civic Hybrid is coming.
I would rather have this engine, just like the Civic Sport Sedan/Hatchback for the reliability.

You dont get these cars for power, you get them for comfort, efficiency and reliability, and a 2.0L 4 cylinder with no turbo is extremely reliable, this car mechanically should last atleast 200K miles if taken care well. not nice - no air vents or usb/12v for the rear seats, almost no storage in thr doors, no side mirrors folding, no lumbar support, reversing camera quality -pretty poor resolution, no light in armrest storage, also i dont like open "storage" in between the front seats... useless space.

    • @jjacob25101
      @jjacob25101 ปีที่แล้ว

Your dislikes mentioned is the norm for this price point and often higher trims for certain equipment. Many thing you mentioned are in very few vehicles. The HR-V Sport has a lot of things that the Civic Sport Hatchback does not, at the same price. And the space under the consoles has two USB ports, because it's not useless. It's to put your phones there for charging. And the side mirrors fold, just not powered. Again you're not likely to get all these extras on Sport trim models that have a good amount of features for the price without spending extra on dual zone A/C, power adjust seats, sunroof and other things many don't want or need, and often can get other aftermarket items later, without adding costs to the initial purchase.
