    Love my 2023 HRV. It’s perfect for me and my needs. I do not need to do off road. This is a very beautiful and comfortable car, fun to drive, with ease of getting in and out , which is important for a 75 yr old woman. I love it. Thanks for your video which gave me a little more knowledge of my HRV.

    Lot of haters, but I suspect they're driving a 1970's Ford Maverick or an AMC Matador! This HR-V looks great. Looks a lot like the porsche cayenne. If you want off-road capabilites, buy one meant for that. If you want a 7-8 0-60mph sec. SUV...buy one with the horsepower that trips your trigger. If you want something bigger, buy a bigger vehicle. If you want something well-rounded that does a lot, looks great for $29,000 (base Sport)...this is the ticket.

    This nicer, new HR-V *deserves* the option of more power than this engine+CVT combo, especially if it would be a hybrid system. With the extra 100+ pound weight of AWD, plus carrying 1 or 2 passengers and their stuff (and at higher elevations common in the Western U.S.), this base Civic engine is really going to be straining. I think the Subaru Crosstrek with the 2.5 is a better choice in most every way, or maybe the upcoming Corolla Cross AWD Hybrid.

    • @Monsieur2068
      @Monsieur2068 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would agree, I would actually like to see the CR-V type hybrid for this HR-V I think that is a better wheelhouse for this car. Getting the same mpg as a standard outback is not really turning any heads when I can get more space and power out of a outback. But as a hybrid I think this car would really shine.
      This market is getting pretty competitive with a crosstrek, cx-30/50, hr-v, carolla cross, so stand out Honda!

    This year's NW Overland Rally held in Plain, Wa had a pleasant surprise in a form of a brave woman driving a previous model CR-V through a technical course. She had made all but one obstacle which was impossible to traverse due to low clearance and lack of low range in her CR-V. What helped her was the momentum and the help of a cheering crowd. She had even put Tesla Model Y to shame. And that was the highlight of that event!
    Most CR-V drivers will fail to drive through 1" of snow, let alone light off-road.
    The moral of this story is not what you drive, but rather how you drive it.

    Pretty bummed that the extra power is offset by the extra weight but the current car is a noisy tin can that has absurd road noise. Engineering wise this seems like an enormous upgrade. Waiting for our dealer to get their demo to drive one but will almost certainly be trading our 2020 for one of these as soon as our dealer gets one in a color we like. It's a shame that the HR-V got larger, now the subcompact is truly gone from the Honda USA lineup. I really enjoy the manual HVAC controls and headunit similar to the 10th gen Accord. Sad that the magic seats are gone but with the car being larger I guess it's a wash.

    By most metrics, this is a substantial upgrade. The question is since Honda made so many upgrades, what class it now belongs to. To me, the Hrv was always a trim that existed between trims, but most important of all, it was affordable while being competent with compromises. I really thought this would be a good fit for me having owned a new outback onyx for a year now, I am feeling the gas prices in my wallet. That, the Canadian HRV pricing starts at 28,000 for the base fwd model. The outback is only $2,000 more for their base model and I paid about $40,000 for the onyx OTD with some shrewd negotiations, This HrV is $37,000 for the AWD top trim which is obviously disappointing as I though it would be cheaper. The only advantage is the gas mileage in this car. The upgrades while,nice really was necessitated by the market where everyone is on par with one another in this space.

    Just a couple of thoughts about the car. Great design - and concept. This (lifted average sized wagon) is in fact what I have - and what I've christened the "best overall car type" - having a 2008 audi A6 allroad. You can sleep in the car, get anywhere, go to the store and have (some) fun. Remarks: lack of power lift gate is an advantage, not a shortcoming (and yes, I have transported ridiculous amounts of boxes many times in my audi). That said - the weird engine/transmission selection kills this car for me. It gets 30 mpg - which - converting to l/100 km is 7.8. My manual gearbox full time AWD 1.9 ton 5 metre long audi does 6.1 litres of diesel in lowest suspension setting and with summer tires on the highway (verified using two fully tanked tanks with a distance of 250 kms in between) and 8.4 when you're really late somewhere and driving like a madman in a city. And yes, you can (although you shouldn't) - it has a 3 litre 232 hp/450 nm V6 engine which does 6.9 s to 100 - in almost any weather - but cannot be heard from the cabin. That subaru for me would kill itself because of its plastic interior (gotten used to audi). Overall - this Honda lacks a good diesel (I know, only dinosaurs ... heh... drive diesel - leaving panda/whale/polar bear lovers with their own choices) - and a manual box. If it had those things... well. Anyway - brilliantly filmed and produced - kuddos again and again - for that from Latvia.

    It would have been interesting to do a test with heavier, more interspersed traffic (tough to set up on the fly, I know). I have a 2019 HR-V and the adaptive cruise control was a big selling point, having just bought my wife a Forester with that feature a few months earlier; however, the 2019 HR-V’s “adaptive” approach is EXTREMELY choppy, effectively slamming on the brakes way too late when the car in front is going significantly slower, then struggling with its underpowered engine to regain speed once I change lanes away from the impeding car.

    • @clintonrice525
      @clintonrice525 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@songerph you’re obviously welcome to debate semantics and the root cause, but having actually driven the car, I can confidently say that if a sensed car prompts the HRV’s Adaptive Cruise Control to slow significantly, then I switch lanes away from that car, the HRV takes probably 1-2 seconds to confirm the path is clear, then accelerates at a pace I find slow while revving the engine to high RPMs in “a low gear” to do so. I interpret that as the engine possessing less capability to accelerate gracefully than I’d like, which I then shorten to “underpowered”. If you want to say that’s an intentional feature of the engine’s design, I will reply that I think the engine could have benefitted from more stringent performance requirements.
      Having said all of that, I knew that I was aiming to save some money in buying the HR-V rather than a CR-V, and accept the outcome; I just proposed that Ryan Douthit might be able to construct a comparison of different Adaptive Cruise Controls since they don’t all work equally well.

    I didn’t notice any fog lights, no rear a/c vents, no power lift gate. And that motor,,158 hp! What were they thinking? My first small suv was a 2011 Nissan Rogue and it had more power, and it was slow. Cmon Honda!

    I have a 2024 exl and its the same as the 2023 version. The car is simple and nice to drive, but lacks a few simple features like a backseat center arm rest and charging ports. Also, they could have made a powerlift gate.

    Ryan, I remember seeing /hearing this was Honda's take on youthful design language...if that is true, it is really sad. Nothing about the new civic or this hr-v screams "youthful"; it just says bland. Also the CVT needs to go bye-bye.

    Drove a sport. Very well built although this one had a buzz in the seat belt retractor already. A little bumpy with the 18's. No rear vents or arm rest in the back. Very slow and gets less mpg than a crv in awd config. Nice car but not a standout by any means

    I liked the previous HR-V but the rear door handles being so high with little kids is a non-starter. I got a Crosstrek, which just seems like a more refined package. HR-V has caught up but I expect Subaru to vault ahead again with its next gen.

    • @DavidMichaelKalman

  • @tedneanderthal7373

    In other markets, Honda sells a different HR-V that is hybrid only. I wish the U.S. version - though a different vehicle - was also hybrid only. The gas mileage on this HR-V is subpar. And, that homely grille! Honda has been missing the mark lately with the styling of its vehicles, e.g., the current Accord which is too low to the ground for its buying audience and also has a grille that is unflattering. While the new HR-V is competitive with the Corolla Cross, I'd rather be seen in the Toyota.

    With the new Civic engine, seems like it should be able to do better than 11 seconds for 0-60. That is probably slower than a Crosstrek with the base engine. At 30k, they should have a better engine option.
