Good video!! I prefer SGC over PSA cheap slab. When a battle of PSA & SGC conversation comes up I always think toward PSA fan.. it makes NO sense to trust SGC with Mantle or T206 but not Brady or Trout.
That's an interesting perspective, Nick! I don't know if I wouldn't "trust" SGC, as they've really done a ton of vintage, but I can see how someone would want their classic card in a classic slab, for sure.
I received my 1st submission from SGC yesterday, took 11 business when they received until post-grade. I haven't looked at the grades yet but it's something nice but not crucial to my cards as they are mostly vintage '1950s through a couple modern. Wanted to test the waters as far as very old, a modern relic holder, an auto and even a beater 1959 Frank Robinson to test my quality control eye. I think each grader has their niche in the hobby and I'd say to look at all your options, do your due diligence, as I think there is a fit for all grading companies.
Man, Sammy, you said everything I wanted to say in much fewer words! Let us know how the grades go! I love me some Frank Robinson! First player to win MVP in both leagues!
While searching for graded 10 cards it seems to me it’s more rare to find 10’s in SGC vs. any of the other grading companies. Might be something to that.
Sgc has a 9.5 option so yes it's much harder to get a sgc 10 as opposed to a PSA 10 another reason why most will go with psa. Same goes for Beckett very tough to get a 10 from them as well
Alright you sold me. I am submitting my first batch of cards to SGC. They are all Orioles players that have made the Hall of Fame, their card from their last season. That’s my theme for this one!
Oh nice, that’s a pretty cool theme, man. But before you do it, think about the values. You don’t want to spend $30 on cards that - once graded - are worth less than the cost of the card +$30. For a personal collection (PC), it’s ok to do that, but if it’s for a PC, and the value might be upside-down, then maybe consider grading with HGA for cheaper, and you can get Orioles colored labels? Just offering some ideas.
@@Ravensflock89 If you're looking for a quick turnaround time, HGA may not be your best bet at the moment, as they are in a backlog themselves. They're currently clearing out that log at around 3,000 cards a week (58k more to go). Don't get me wrong, I have a few HGA cards for PC as well, but at the current state of these companies, you'll receive your cards back from SGC even before they open your package to document it as received from HGA.
What’s funny is I made an order with both SCG and HGA with the same cards and SCG was cheaper. So with that and the information you said I am going with SCG lol
@@acwong27 that last statement is true - I sent off two subs (one to SGC and one to hga) about four weeks ago, and I already have SGC back. HGA is still in received stage. But, they are cheaper and I love their innovations. I don’t see them going away.
The one that cost less and grades harder would be the only one a logical person should decide is better. Why buy a psa 10 with a off center card or a dinged corner when a sgc is cheaper and had none of that. In time people will come around
I believe there are reasons why you would send a card to a specific company. I would still send expensive, or slightly off-centered cards (and red color match) to PSA. Thicker cards/patch autos to BGS , cool stickers and green matching cards to CSG, vintage and color pop cards to SGC for the classic tuxedo look. That being said, SGC wins hands down at the moment as the best company to support. Best turnaround time, great customer service, a truly transparent company that cares about their customers.
I agree with what you are saying. I’m not a BGS guy though, as I just don’t like their labels. I do like HGA slabs a lot, and I’ll send lower-end PC Cards to them for custom labeling and such. Thanks for the comment, Aaron! What does your collection revolve around mostly?
Sgc doesn't come close if you consider ROI. 30 bucks a card plus shipping they are just not a viable option currently and I like SGC. Once PSA comesback with a. Bulk option they will be forced to lower their prices. Psa is still so far ahead of sgc it isn't even a comparison.
@@PIP-zf9yb I see your point, but I could turn that card around for less money now, and reinvest it three more times to make more money than sitting on it waiting for PSA bull submissions. I think there’s points to be made on both sides for sure. I’m holding on to about 100 cards waiting for PSA bulk pricing to drop under $20 again. They’re not all for sale, but many are. They’re not super valuable either to justify using SGC for a quicker flip.
@@DavidGonos I guess I'm just comparing psa at 50 bucks vs sgc at 30 their is no comparison and the trunk around times are fairly similar. I got my psa 50 dollar sub back in 35 days. I don't think psa will comeback with a bulk rate of 20 why would they when far inferior company's like sgc are somehow charging 30. I have heard from good sources psa initial bulk prices will be 30 a card with max value of 499 this would force sgc to drop their prices by quite a bit if they want any buisness. The other thing no one talks about is why is sgc so fast right now? The answer is at their current price point they are not that busy they are getting p.c. submissions and diehard sgc followers people who actually want a good ROI realize they are not viable at their current price point except for a small window of cards.
@@PIP-zf9yb I see what you’re saying about the $50 turnaround times. SGC is plenty busy though, as they just recently had their highest volume submission day ever last month. I think PSA will eventually come back down to $20-25. They lost a huge chunk of customers. And eBay is full of SGC slabs (and others), making it much more acceptable to buy/sell them. We’ll see though. I’m looking forward to someone writing a book about what has happened in this industry over the past three years!
PSA and BGS…..not sure why your including pandemic grading companies. Only reason SGC became relevant was due to being in FL, and Florida having the top market for sports cards.
I wouldn’t trust the children at SGC to grade my library card. Anyone telling you otherwise is wanting a pat on the back because they are dumb enough to grade with those amateurs 😆
So you trust the children at PSA. 👍 they take forever and I've seen some really horrible 10's from PSA. Not to mention they apparently grade fake cards recently. That's definitely an amature move from a company that's been around the longest.
