    SGC is the best grading company. When I buy a card graded by SGC I know I’m getting a accurate grade. Very consistent with there grades.

      I've collected my whole life, never sent a card in to be graded, I've bought some graded cards before though. I finally decided I better catch up with the times and get some of my good ones graded since i heard they were doing that bowman 9 dollar deal. Well I've been sorting for about a month now and have close to 2000 In the possible grade pile with probably 200 bowman. I went to start putting them in the computer to submit to be graded a few days ago and looks like the deal has stopped? Man I thought I had until the end of this month? So I guess I'll skip the bowman for now and go right into some of my better cards, I have a jordan rookie in really good condition, I'd say probably a 9 it might actually go the distance though, centering is perfect, the edges and corners are flawless. Jeter topps gold, I've heard it's pretty hard to get a 10 in that card, I have 4 that I think has a good chance, perfect centering, only problem I could see was I scratched one pulling it out of the penny sleeve its been in since 93, trying to clean them. Does anyone have any recommendations on what i should send first? I have stuff like Dan Marini rookies, Joe Montana rookies, Jerry Rice rookies, Kobe rookies, lebron rookies, all the way up to a bunch of Wembys this year. I got lucky and pulled his black colorblast, a purple refractor and an Ausar auto (all in the same walmart blaster box) never had a blaster quiet like that one! So my questions is does anyone have any recommendations on where i should start? Should i start with the older ones or the newer ones? Does it cost more money the higher the price goes? Ive heard most grading companies charge extra if your card grades a 10? And my last question, Can you use a bubble mailer envelope instead of a box? Thanks, and sorry for the novel, just wanna make sure I'm doing this right.. lastly thanks for the video, I had probably 10 questions before watching this lol.

      Start with older big name rookies. PSA charges based on value of grade so use them if selling, if keeping use SGC. Would you trust your longtime favorite cards not to get smashed in a bubble mailer? Use a protective box.

    Thanks for the tutorial, Dave! I've never submitted to SGC, so it was helpful. On a side note. I have to mention something kind of serious. You know how women can get post-partum depression? I'm beginning to get a little concerned that I may have Post-Packstravaganzapression. It started just a few days after Packstravaganza ended. However, my symptoms seem to be getting better. I've found watching other card videos like this one has been a helpful distraction and has gone a long way in easing the pain. I'll keep you posted, but I think I'm gonna be okay. Keep me in your prayers. Thanks, Dave.

I will be doing giveaways all year, so I'm sure something is coming your way at some point! Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@DavidGonos Well, it takes a great soul to put on such an event AND be willing to do it and similar events again. Even though I wasn't among the winners this time, it was good to just witness the enjoyment surrounding it and your benevolence. BTW, I finished my Yankees team set of 1955 Armour Coins! There are only 5 and rather inexpensive except for the Mantle(s). For people on a budget, these coins are a good way to pick up vintage HOFers on the cheap, plus it's an interesting issue with all the different colors - common colors and rare colors. Armour also made a set in 1959 and 1960. You might want to consider doing just a general video on these. There's a little bit of a learning curve on these with the colors, variations, and errors, but it's not too bad.

    This is great, awesome information. I am preparing to make my first ever submission and this is very helpful. I am thinking about using Bocacardsubs though, per one of your previous videos. Seems like it may save a few bucks per card and they can prep them too. Planning to submit a Lemieux rookie, mazeroski rookie, several rookies from the 70's steelers and a few newer cards (Kaprizov young gun, caufield young gun and Boldy clear cut rookie). Really hoping to learn how well I evaluate a card and to put the ones I like in a display frame to be able to see them every day.

    • @DavidGonos
      @DavidGonos  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Patrick! Bocacardsubs is awesome -- they're definitely SGC-friendly! You can do it cheaper there, for sure, it just adds a layer of someone else touching your cards, and two more trips (you ship to them, they take to SGC, they bring back from SGC, then they ship to you) as opposed to just two trips (you ship to SGC, they ship back to you). With all that said, Boca Cards is super communicative, which makes things nice. In a normal sub, you'll watch your order on SGC's page to see which stage it's in. Obviously, you can't do that with a third-party sub, but Boca Cards updates you on every step, and I'm pretty sure they dropped cards off one day, notified me, and then got them back either that day or the very next day, graded. They are SUPER fast, and my guess is, since they do so much business with SGC, they might get fast-tracked with their subs. Even if you go through SGC, though, they under-promise (5-10 calendar days) and over-deliver (less than 5 days I bet). I am excited to hear how your Lemieux rookie does! Here's the 36-graded-card display I buy off Amazon for $80 (on sale now for $75!) -- you can see these displays behind me in my videos. Comes assembled, and everything. They're great IMO -- link: amzn.to/3YvKwFG

      @@sourcingsailor4987 I did submit to SGC & got cards back I believe it was the following week. So turnaround time was good. Only thing that was nerve wrecking was when I sent out package. They don’t say that the package gets delivered to a PO Box they have & someone picks up the packages. So when I tracked it I thought it was delivered to the wrong address. But I emailed them when I thought it was at the wrong address & they gave me all that information and told me they have it. So in my experience with their customer service they were good at responding to my email pretty quickly. As far as the grading goes, I got back better grades then I thought I would on 2 of my cards. But TBH, the grading for me wasn’t really about trying to get 10s anyway. I love the look of the tuxedo slabs and wanted my cards that I had since I was a kid to be in those slabs with a grade to have as something to show of how it was maintained all these years. Not looking to sell these cards. These cards represent a timestamp in my life as a child and thought they would be awesome in these slabs to showcase. @DavidGonos  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s a very good point - I should’ve mentioned that! Either video your cards as you package them, showing fronts and backs, or just take many pictures. The grading companies aren’t known to do the old switcheroo, but it’s definitely possible, so why not be careful. Also, the cards could be accidentally damaged, and you’d have proof of their condition before sending them in.

      I'm 53 years old and have been collecting since the late 70's, well, realistic, I started collecting in the 80's, because in the 70's I bought packs of cards repeatedly to use in the spokes of my bike tires, just to hear that beautiful that lasted no more than a few minutes to an hour, that's why I repeatedly purchased packs back then. In the beginning, I stored my cards in sleeves and a binder, but here in Florida, your hand and arm would sweat carrying that heavy binder around, so that's when i started penny sleeving and top loading my cards and have been for more than 40 years.
      I stated all that to say this, I didn't literally here about grading until around 2007 and being an old school collector, just like the card shop owners I blew it off as a fad and never even considered getting my cards graded until 2020, during the pandemic, but everything was shut down, so i literally have thousands of cards, with a few hundred that are grade worthy, probably more than that, because i treat my cards like newborn babies, the only issue is centering and all. I have cards for my personal collection and I have cards I want to get graded to flip and invest back into the hobby, and to be honest, I wanted to go with PSA, but during the pandemic people were complaining that they had card submissions that were taking a year and even today, Thursday, October 17, 2024, every card shop within three hours of me, from Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Gainesville, Panama City Beach, Florida and Dothan, Alabama are saying PSA is taking 2.5 to 3 months for returns, and even though SGC has beautiful slabs that I will use for my PC, their cards don't give you anywhere near the ROI(return on investment) as PSA.
      I have never had a card personally graded, but I have purchased about 80 PSA, SGC, CGC, even GMA graded cards. I may be over-thinking it and all, but I have heard all the horror stories, like grading companies switching cards, which is why my first 20 card SGC or PSA submission will be all "numbered" cards, which makes it far more difficult to steal and switch, because of the numbering.

    How do you decide what cards to send in and what ones to just hold onto?

    • @DavidGonos
      @DavidGonos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, it comes down to figuring out the value and the cost sometimes. If it costs you $40 to get 1 card graded (grading fee plus shipping fees, etc), but the card graded is currently valued at about $35, then maybe it doesn’t make sense. For me, I add in the fact that if it’s a classic card I want displayed, I don’t hate paying $40 for a card valued around that, because I want to display it with my other cards. Plus, the assumption on my end is - 15 years from now, my graded card’s value will be higher.

  • @tebone3573
    @tebone3573 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey, I have a grading question how do you send redemption cards in do you send them in still taped up in the top loader or cut the seal and send them like anything else? Like I would think that is safer to send it to get graded like how Topps sent it to me or is it better to keep it sealed & ungraded as a uncirculated redemption card?

    • @DavidGonos
      @DavidGonos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m not positive on that one, but my suggestion is to send it in as you got it, like you said. Let them remove it. If they decline, then you know, but to try it the other way, taking it out first and sending it in, probably has more room for error.

    The app is great, but only a 100 scan limit for free! Glad I came across your video. I'm a little confused about the payments, quick history, I have a 62 mantle #200 that PSA said they needed $500 to grade, I as you may imagine, almost shit my pants. And seeing the website on your page, seems prices are similar. Then again, This was back in 2018, so I took the card back, not graded because I felt like I was getting cheated and put back in the box and forgot about it. Well, I'm moving, and here's my collection that i've had for the most part of 30 years, nothing amazing, except this Mantle that I just don't know. If I submit at $250 the worst that happens is they ask for more money, I guess i'm hesitant due to the potential value. Just drink a few beers and send the card?

    • @DavidGonos
      @DavidGonos  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My philosophy is - if they ask for higher fees, that means more value than I expected for my card. If you plan to sell, you’ll make the grading fee money back easily. If you plan to hold, it’s a chunk of money to pay out, but you’ll have a much more valuable asset. Good news all around! Congrats on an awesome card!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    • @sourcingsailor4987

      The rule of thumbs is to make as little work as possible for your grader. If your grader is forced to go through 20 to 100 cards and put them in the order on your submission form, #1 it's going to take far longer to get your cards graded, #2 and even worse, you are going to piss off your grader and you know what they outcome of that means! I have watched years of "Hot to submit" videos and i have 400 cards already wiped down with microfiber clothes, penny sleeved and placed in Card Saver 1 card protectors ready to submit. I live in Florida and I had plans to be in SGC's area last month, and I was going to personally drop them off, and have them shipped back to me, but the two hurricanes threw a wrench in "that" game plan!
      I said all that to simply say this, when it comes to prepping your cards for grading, it behooves you to be patient, take your time, only prep cards when you have enough time and not rushed, because the last thing you want to do is have about 5000 thousand cards you have backlogged to evaluate and submit.
      Plus, I but a ton of hobby boxes and I participate in about 15 breaks a month, so when I am ripping a new hobby box of cards, I have a new microfiber cloth, penny sleeves, top loaders and even Card Saver 1 protectors ready to go, so when I pull a hit, I immediately sleeve and top load it or If I know i am going to grade that card or those cards, I penny sleev them and place them directly into Card Saver 1 protectors, so the only thing i have to do when I am done ripping boxes is to decide between SGC or PSA. Trust me, doing all the work on the front-end makes it so much easier.

      Yes you can, as i correspond with SGC reps daily now, since i am about to submit 400 cards. They only ask that you properly separate your invoiced cards into their very own protected stacks. A close fiend pack each of his submissions in the same size box that was used in this video, but he packs three to six of those boxes in a larger box, with each invoice attached to their respective smaller box.
      He is a group submitter, so he send normal shipped items and expedited items and the orders come back 100% of the time under the choice of return shipment each smaller box stated.

I put an SGC 8 next to a PSA 8 and the PSA made the SGC look like a 3 or 4. So much chipping on the SGC card, I decided to NEVER buy or submit with them. I would up getting a BGS 9 of the card. And I would never put my cards down on anything to grade, I don't care how clean the surface is. The wrong wipe can ruin your card.
