Personally I don’t see it as a threat or an issue. It doesn’t remove whitening, fix corners, remove creases, remove heavy scratches or defects. I don’t see it as altering to the point of being deceptive, in fact; I don’t see it as altering at all. If I clean my car before I sell it does that mean I have altered the car? Does that mean I’m being deceptive to the new buyer? No, it means I’m showing them the car in a clean condition. This would surely help the buying process by viewing the car/card without any contaminants/fingerprints on it that wouldn’t be there if I didn’t clean it? Anyway just my thoughts on this.

Its always something special about going through a binder. And going through other trainers binders at local meetups. Cards locked up in plastic can't replicate that
@@Joelito2300 I find that non-Pokemon fans (basically every single friend of mine) are even interested in looking through my binders as opposed to my slabs. I actually asked one of them why. They said it's less intimidating, more relaxing - like looking through a photo album.
That's how I do it, just a big binder. Cards don't have to be high quality, sometimes they're yard sale collections that I assimilated. I'm comfortable putting just about any one of my cards into a deck. It's cheaper and it's wholesome. No drama or anything, just bliss.
@@OpossumBud i never understood the need to have someone independently verify my stuffs quality. Let the end buyer make that determination. With all these buyer protections. A smart buyer makes sure they have these protections in place before buying anything online. But everyone wants a deal and goes to back alley markets with shady Pokémon slingers, and then get upset when they get got. Its like going to skidrow and expecting not run into junkies and someone looking to rob you if they get the chance. Its silly. Theres no need for it. Pokémon at retail prices appreciates as whole still better than the S&P 500. Year over year. 15%+ annually is great. But people want more always. They want that 40-50-60% return and do some real shady stuff and buy from real shady people.
I might start just collecting raw cards. I literally just got back a graded card from. BGS, and guess what? They graded the freaking card upside-down! Are you kidding me? How does this happen? All these companies should be avoided. It's all opinionated based on the people they hire.
This biggest issue that i see here is people altering their cards and then selling them off to people as NM, without mentioning the fact that there’s polish on them. Saddest part about this? I legit believe that none of these grading companies can tell whether they are altered or not.
There's nothing better than flipping through the ol 3 ring binder, looking at all my cards. I used to bring my best binders to the bars and I'd bring a new chick home every night, never failed. I had to stop because they'd get so wet from looking at my cards, soaking the floor. One night a gentleman at the bar slipped and broke his neck. After that I had to take a step back and realized I was partially responsible.
That sad part about life is, this card polish could be an amazing plus for people who wanted to buy cheaper cards make them look nice and keep them in their collection for display. Only problem is that people suck and they will try and cheat their way to more money. It’s just too bad
Additional comment - these companies need to actually get their hands on this buffing/void filling compound, send it to a 3rd party to do a detailed analysis on it, and create a non destructive chemical authentication process - or perhaps determine what spectrum of light it reacts to.
That's fuckin crazy that you even showed them the card in question. And they still graded it. Fuckin wild. Good thing I don't have a subscription to them or any other grading place for that matter.

CGC has been doing some really shady stuff like this in the comic book world too. Last year they accepted and graded books that blatantly had an aftermarket, not publisher approved cover stapled on. What's even wilder in my opinion is that they have green (qualified) and purple (restored) labels that can go on comics, so why not use them here? The labels are pretty much the exact same just much smaller. At least label it and let people know it's been altered.
Yeah this is nuts. I believe I told Rattle before and I tried to mention it to a lot of other people. My cousin and I sent them three error cards where there was basically no border at all on the top..(like a sliver) They graded the cards didn't mark them as error. They put the centering as like a grade 8. Meanwhile someone like BGS would put like a 3-5 If they don't put on the slab error or OC. So I showed CGC comparable cards with similar grade and the centering score was about the same but they were a little bit more normal cards in terms of centering. It was clear as day, showed them the two pictures both with the CGC slabs. Different between oc badly & other CGC cards that have centering as 8.5. They gave me a runaround for almost 8 months and it was never resolved and they just told me that they can't help me. The only thing is I didn't do what I was going to do my plan was to do like a 10 or 15% chargeback or something but I decided to just let them deal with all the hate instead. Only recently they've been a little more lenient on the grades but yeah they would screw up a lot of people's cards and grade them wrong and often put 8.5 grade. And this is coming from someone that sends cards into PSA and Beckett often and I usually get 9.5s and 10s, so I'm pretty accurate. They will just take your money for anything and they don't care about anything else.
If you still want to I encourage it but y’all deserve the info before ya do it, they dropped the ball when I literally gave them everything.. thank you truly 🙏🏽
Thanks for your video. I feel all the grading companies should branch off to multiple local locations and have walk in grading right in front of you take it or leave it kind of thing. They can have like a big huge warehouse like that where they handle your cards in front of you and not have to send it wait and wait. I have personally have trust issues about the process.
Not gonna lie I have been waiting to grade a lot of my collection and every time I’m thinking about it I just decide against it smh now I’m definitely back to just keeping my cards in sleeves/cardsavers
They in my experience it seems like even if you give them concise proof of foul play they will just let it go through…. Just my take and I wish the best for whatever you do!

Something to invest in, but this particular instance im talking about I gave them the cards in question, the person doing the altering, and a vid with proof of them altering the cards. Only thing more I could’ve done was hang out at the entrance to CGC and stop the sun myself… they acknowledged it and then let it through anyway even though it’s against their policy… they can at least detect it that way 🙏🏽
8:23 I cannot stress enough how much money I put into this franchise as a whole. I’ve been a Pokémon fan since I was 10 years old I’m now 34. And it’s really disgusting to me that they’re allowing people to do essentially throw away money because you’re right as a huge fan of The franchise and the member of the hobby I want my cards as they are. And if down the line this crap he put on the card oxidizes in the slabs or if he just does colors in a little bit I would be upset because it’s no longer the grade that it was when you initially graded it.

I think the biggest issue is their quality control, i doubt the social media team would be able to find this specific card. They probably need to jump through hoops to even make an internal email to the rest of the departments about this card. Their quality control NEEDS to catch this shit though

I stopped considering CGC as an option a few months or so back. A few years ago I liked them but with recent authentication issues It's either PSA or BGS if I know its a Black Label.

I gave up on CGC a while back. I was frustrated when I sent a bunch of cards and it just felt like they just threw a generic "8.5" grade on a lot of cards when they had a long return time, almost like they didn't even grade some of them. Only happened with my bulk submissions, my higher priced subs always had better grades and never had the generic 8.5 grade. Now, they send out much higher grades, which shows that they eased up on the harsh grading they began with. If I'm not going to get consistency, I'll just stick with the inconsistent company that actually has value.
@@OpossumBud absolutely I was early and only sent in my cream of the crop. Got 0 tens with tons of 9.5s basically like they refused to give a 10 and I always had two 10's and two 9.5 subgrades. Then I hear months later that 10's are all of a sudden super easy. I now refuse to use CGC ever again.
Thanks for the Video and the work looking into this. That being said I really don't think there is a problem here. Really all he is doing with this product is cleaning the dirt and grime off the card and restoring its original shine. He puts the product on and lets it do the job then removes it. The same thing is done to Comics, Books, Paintings, Statues, Action figures, and kinds of other collectibles. Video games are notorious for this. You take a scratched up game that doesn't play run it through a sanding and polishing process and it's like new again. I know that in most cases you would tell someone that a collectible has been restored. I don't think what he is doing here is restoring, it's more cleaning. CGC also offers a cleaning a pressing service for comics which could be considered altering the comic book yet they still put a blue label on the graded book and not the purple restored comic label. I promise you cards cleaned like this have been graded by PSA, Beckett, and any other company grading cards. In all fairness, you should break out the tools again and start cracking those PSA cases. To further add how many people go to sell a car and the first thing they do is either clean the heck out of it and polish it to a factory shine or have a professional company do it. Would this also be considered altering they can make scratches go away on a car temporarily and put back a factory shine also temporarily? Just long enough to deceive a potential buyer. In closing, I do agree if a product like this is being used it should be tested to make sure it won't permanently harm your cards. Once again thanks for the call out on this product and I will be looking harder now at the cards I buy, just to make sure if a product was used on them it wasn't left on it to damage the card later.
It’s extremely disappointing when companies who want to be a staple in the community can’t tell the story straight. There is this narrative of he did it, and we had nothing to do with it… well maybe we did but who knows. Where is the accountability for this whole mess. I like owning cards not just for value but because I like them and I am proud to like Pokémon as a franchise. Enough of pimping cards out and bragging about our graded cards. It's not just CGC. None of the grading companies have confirmed they can detect the use of this stuff... either way, if you were planning on selling your CGC graded cards you'll do fine. If you plan on selling them in the future, you will almost certainly do just as fine. Pretty much all of these grading companies have done or do things that cast serious doubt on whether a card graded a 10 means anything other than "a second human on this earth felt this card was mint, at a specific point in time"... You'll be fine.
I doubt they can verify if anything is used on the cards or not unless visibly apparent. Even tho they responded to you, its unlikely they are able to stop the card from getting graded off instagram DMs. The employee who graded the card probably didn't see the video or had any idea. There is probably no way for them to track that specific card down either just off a youtube video. Feels like a bit of a reach. I had a CGC card sent back because a water mark looked sus resent it a few months later and it was graded fine. Probably just got a different employee grading it.
Nah dawg, make excuses for them all you want. I walked that in and gave them literally everything. They took a stance against chemically altered cards and did nothing. They can’t verify anything and cannot be trusted with their word. Appreciate your feedback but excuses don’t save them
I’ve been trying to tell people for years that Raw cards are the way to go. You have always the option to grade it if you want, but they can be put in top loaders/binders/etc and are very easy to sell/trade.
A 7.5 is a "win?" I agree it should come with a designation on the label but I doubt the Kurt's made any difference as to the grade of the card lol 7.5 CGC is not winning, y'all

Memes aside, I've found this video REALLY informative, as a person that also does not believe in "touching up" cards for grading, their response was such lip service bullshit. If they wouldn't do anything about it, not even publicly address this alteration, much less rescind the cards registrated grading, then there is definitely a loss of faith in their other cards not being chemically altered or that they really know how to catch it. Good call out. Indeed disappointing to see as a collector who values condition and the trust that comes with grading standards. However, I’m not sure what to do with this info. Surely PSA would pass this through as well, no? And what’s to prevent a raw card from being altered and sold. Most of my cards are in binders, but I can’t see a world where I wouldn’t want my best cards on display being graded. But again, love this type of awareness to hopefully change their practices if vocalized enough. Cheers!

Sad to hear honestly. It'll suck to be someone that owns that card when it mutates and turns green because of weird liquids used on it years earlier. I personally don't care much for grading cards but it's nice to have alternatives to PSA. The gnat deserves at least a CGC 6.9.
Literally no TPG can tell if a card is wiped, chemicals or not. Everything about grading is visual. If you can't see that a card has been wiped, they can't do anything about it. It is what it is.
@Opossum Bud I just don't think it's economically feasible for them to investigate in detail every instance of a card being wiped, who's submitting it, when, etc, AFTER it already passed grading standards. How can they even prove if the card that was submitted was the exact same card that was in the video? Maybe, MAYBE, if it's like a $1,000+ card they could spend the time, money and resources to investigate the matter, but to just expect it to happen at your whim seems a bit, I don't know, entitled I guess. If that's the right word. I love your content, so please don't take this as an attack or anything. Just trying to be realistic.
Not to mention they grade "inadvertent (stolen) cards. A store owner in my city had the entire Celebrations set smuggled out of factory. He graded them a month early with CGC. Scum company. I"m cracking all of my Shining Neo CGC 9s and 9.5s.

Man I feel you on this "cgc". I live 2 hours from home base. I sent in an error promo meowth and it came back as a 5 and non error. Was told by 3 cgc employees I should sent it in to get graded as error spent the extra and separate shipping for it to be a 5 and non error. After contacting they said we don't recognized that error. Gtfo. So my card is missing a layer of card towards the top .

CGC became a tiny relevant due to BGS and PSA being on hold during covid. Now that they're back, CGC isn't looking hot. Those who defend CGC are the ones heavily invested into the cards they graded. :/
I'm done with grading, cracked all my slabs and selling dupes. Grading is pointless unless you want to make money imo, rather have all my cards in a binder, I like having a theme for the pages.

I totally put all of my more expensive cards in perfect fit sleeves and those magnetic cases. They’ve been excellent. I have thought about sending them to SGC because their turnaround is appealing as well as the 9 dollars. I’d still be worried, though. I’ve seen and heard horror stories about cards being damaged in the process with all of the bigger grading companies.

@@OpossumBud no worry's, we get it. I for one hate actually taking care of cards and comics. But for some reason I love it too. So when I had the opportunity at the last New York comic con event to hand in my comics, and get Dan Mora to sign one, I jumped on it. Good time with my bro regardless. For comics its harder for me to keep them "mint". The ink is literally a ticking time bomb of destruction. So if my comics get slabbed up, less worry for me. I've come to find out though there's something about flipping through a binder of cards that just hits different. A good quality binder and sleeves go a long way. I preferably have a top loaded binder for all my Japanese CHR's, AR's, SAR's and the like. I do have a couple PSA slabs though just because I think they'd look cool to display. All in all it's coolness factor that I make decisions on. I agree with you that CGC took an L on this though. I'm oblivious to anything "sploogy" in comic restoration so hopefully that isn't getting overlooked as well with how they grade comics. You're the hero we need but don't deserve.

That's how I do it, just a big binder. Cards don't have to be high quality, sometimes they're yard sale collections that I assimilated. I'm comfortable putting just about any one of my cards into a deck. It's cheaper and it's wholesome. No drama or anything, just bliss.

A smart buyer makes sure they have these protections in place before buying anything online. But everyone wants a deal and goes to back alley markets with shady Pokémon slingers, and then get upset when they get got. Its like going to skidrow and expecting not run into junkies and someone looking to rob you if they get the chance. Its silly. Theres no need for it. Pokémon at retail prices appreciates as whole still better than the S&P 500. Year over year. 15%+ annually is great. But people want more always. They want that 40-50-60% return and do some real shady stuff and buy from real shady people.

I might start just collecting raw cards. I literally just got back a graded card from. BGS, and guess what? They graded the freaking card upside-down! Are you kidding me? How does this happen? All these companies should be avoided. It's all opinionated based on the people they hire.
This biggest issue that i see here is people altering their cards and then selling them off to people as NM, without mentioning the fact that there’s polish on them. Saddest part about this? I legit believe that none of these grading companies can tell whether they are altered or not.

There's nothing better than flipping through the ol 3 ring binder, looking at all my cards. I used to bring my best binders to the bars and I'd bring a new chick home every night, never failed. I had to stop because they'd get so wet from looking at my cards, soaking the floor. One night a gentleman at the bar slipped and broke his neck. After that I had to take a step back and realized I was partially responsible.

Additional comment - these companies need to actually get their hands on this buffing/void filling compound, send it to a 3rd party to do a detailed analysis on it, and create a non destructive chemical authentication process - or perhaps determine what spectrum of light it reacts to.

CGC has been doing some really shady stuff like this in the comic book world too. Last year they accepted and graded books that blatantly had an aftermarket, not publisher approved cover stapled on. What's even wilder in my opinion is that they have green (qualified) and purple (restored) labels that can go on comics, so why not use them here? The labels are pretty much the exact same just much smaller. At least label it and let people know it's been altered.
I get the appeal of grading, but I will always prefer flipping through my binder and seeing my cards there! Good stuff as always brotha!

I believe I told Rattle before and I tried to mention it to a lot of other people.
My cousin and I sent them three error cards where there was basically no border at all on the top..(like a sliver) They graded the cards didn't mark them as error.
They put the centering as like a grade 8.
Meanwhile someone like BGS would put like a 3-5 If they don't put on the slab error or OC.
So I showed CGC comparable cards with similar grade and the centering score was about the same but they were a little bit more normal cards in terms of centering.
It was clear as day, showed them the two pictures both with the CGC slabs. Different between oc badly & other CGC cards that have centering as 8.5. They gave me a runaround for almost 8 months and it was never resolved and they just told me that they can't help me.
The only thing is I didn't do what I was going to do my plan was to do like a 10 or 15% chargeback or something but I decided to just let them deal with all the hate instead. Only recently they've been a little more lenient on the grades but yeah they would screw up a lot of people's cards and grade them wrong and often put 8.5 grade.
And this is coming from someone that sends cards into PSA and Beckett often and I usually get 9.5s and 10s, so I'm pretty accurate.
They will just take your money for anything and they don't care about anything else.

Thanks for your video. I feel all the grading companies should branch off to multiple local locations and have walk in grading right in front of you take it or leave it kind of thing. They can have like a big huge warehouse like that where they handle your cards in front of you and not have to send it wait and wait. I have personally have trust issues about the process.

Something to invest in, but this particular instance im talking about I gave them the cards in question, the person doing the altering, and a vid with proof of them altering the cards. Only thing more I could’ve done was hang out at the entrance to CGC and stop the sun myself… they acknowledged it and then let it through anyway even though it’s against their policy… they can at least detect it that way 🙏🏽
8:23 I cannot stress enough how much money I put into this franchise as a whole. I’ve been a Pokémon fan since I was 10 years old I’m now 34. And it’s really disgusting to me that they’re allowing people to do essentially throw away money because you’re right as a huge fan of The franchise and the member of the hobby I want my cards as they are. And if down the line this crap he put on the card oxidizes in the slabs or if he just does colors in a little bit I would be upset because it’s no longer the grade that it was when you initially graded it.

I gave up on CGC a while back. I was frustrated when I sent a bunch of cards and it just felt like they just threw a generic "8.5" grade on a lot of cards when they had a long return time, almost like they didn't even grade some of them. Only happened with my bulk submissions, my higher priced subs always had better grades and never had the generic 8.5 grade. Now, they send out much higher grades, which shows that they eased up on the harsh grading they began with. If I'm not going to get consistency, I'll just stick with the inconsistent company that actually has value.
Yeah I remember that the inconsistency in grading was big for awhile, pumped out tons of tens after almost none and that pissed people off 😂
@@OpossumBud absolutely I was early and only sent in my cream of the crop. Got 0 tens with tons of 9.5s basically like they refused to give a 10 and I always had two 10's and two 9.5 subgrades. Then I hear months later that 10's are all of a sudden super easy. I now refuse to use CGC ever again.

Thanks for the Video and the work looking into this. That being said I really don't think there is a problem here. Really all he is doing with this product is cleaning the dirt and grime off the card and restoring its original shine. He puts the product on and lets it do the job then removes it. The same thing is done to Comics, Books, Paintings, Statues, Action figures, and kinds of other collectibles. Video games are notorious for this. You take a scratched up game that doesn't play run it through a sanding and polishing process and it's like new again. I know that in most cases you would tell someone that a collectible has been restored. I don't think what he is doing here is restoring, it's more cleaning. CGC also offers a cleaning a pressing service for comics which could be considered altering the comic book yet they still put a blue label on the graded book and not the purple restored comic label. I promise you cards cleaned like this have been graded by PSA, Beckett, and any other company grading cards. In all fairness, you should break out the tools again and start cracking those PSA cases. To further add how many people go to sell a car and the first thing they do is either clean the heck out of it and polish it to a factory shine or have a professional company do it. Would this also be considered altering they can make scratches go away on a car temporarily and put back a factory shine also temporarily? Just long enough to deceive a potential buyer. In closing, I do agree if a product like this is being used it should be tested to make sure it won't permanently harm your cards. Once again thanks for the call out on this product and I will be looking harder now at the cards I buy, just to make sure if a product was used on them it wasn't left on it to damage the card later.

I literally just sent CGC 32 cards for grading for the first time on 11 jan… i wish i would have seen this sooner and i would have made the option to critically research more on the other companies better. This alone makes me question the slabs being sold on eBay OR if i ever want to sell mine and this causes CGC slabs to NO SALE and NO BIDS. 😮 You just earned yourself a new sub on the plus side. It's not just CGC. None of the grading companies have confirmed they can detect the use of this stuff... either way, if you were planning on selling your CGC graded cards you'll do fine. If you plan on selling them in the future, you will almost certainly do just as fine.
Pretty much all of these grading companies have done or do things that cast serious doubt on whether a card graded a 10 means anything other than "a second human on this earth felt this card was mint, at a specific point in time"...

I doubt they can verify if anything is used on the cards or not unless visibly apparent. Even tho they responded to you, its unlikely they are able to stop the card from getting graded off instagram DMs. The employee who graded the card probably didn't see the video or had any idea. There is probably no way for them to track that specific card down either just off a youtube video. Feels like a bit of a reach. I had a CGC card sent back because a water mark looked sus resent it a few months later and it was graded fine. Probably just got a different employee grading it.

I’ve been trying to tell people for years that Raw cards are the way to go. You have always the option to grade it if you want, but they can be put in top loaders/binders/etc and are very easy to sell/trade.

Wow, the algorithm actually doing work to put this in my feed. Memes aside, I've found this video REALLY informative, as a person that also does not believe in "touching up" cards for grading, their response was such lip service bullshit.
If they wouldn't do anything about it, not even publicly address this alteration, much less rescind the cards registrated grading, then there is definitely a loss of faith in their other cards not being chemically altered or that they really know how to catch it.

Most of my cards are in binders, but I can’t see a world where I wouldn’t want my best cards on display being graded. But again, love this type of awareness to hopefully change their practices if vocalized enough. Cheers!

Literally no TPG can tell if a card is wiped, chemicals or not. Everything about grading is visual. If you can't see that a card has been wiped, they can't do anything about it. It is what it is.
What about the card I sent them with proof of it being altered, the person doing it, and the cards they were submitting… can they detect that?
@Opossum Bud I just don't think it's economically feasible for them to investigate in detail every instance of a card being wiped, who's submitting it, when, etc, AFTER it already passed grading standards. How can they even prove if the card that was submitted was the exact same card that was in the video? Maybe, MAYBE, if it's like a $1,000+ card they could spend the time, money and resources to investigate the matter, but to just expect it to happen at your whim seems a bit, I don't know, entitled I guess. If that's the right word. I love your content, so please don't take this as an attack or anything. Just trying to be realistic.

Man I feel you on this "cgc". I live 2 hours from home base. I sent in an error promo meowth and it came back as a 5 and non error. Was told by 3 cgc employees I should sent it in to get graded as error spent the extra and separate shipping for it to be a 5 and non error. After contacting they said we don't recognized that error. Gtfo. So my card is missing a layer of card towards the top .

CGC became a tiny relevant due to BGS and PSA being on hold during covid. Now that they're back, CGC isn't looking hot. Those who defend CGC are the ones heavily invested into the cards they graded. :/
I'm done with grading, cracked all my slabs and selling dupes. Grading is pointless unless you want to make money imo, rather have all my cards in a binder, I like having a theme for the pages.

I’ve bought a bunch of graded cards, but I’ve never sent anything out for grading. Mainly because I don’t trust anyone to handle my babies. Lol. I totally put all of my more expensive cards in perfect fit sleeves and those magnetic cases. They’ve been excellent. I have thought about sending them to SGC because their turnaround is appealing as well as the 9 dollars. I’d still be worried, though. I’ve seen and heard horror stories about cards being damaged in the process with all of the bigger grading companies.
Altering cards should get you blacklisted from grading. I know that would be hard to control but it will make the cheaters work that much harder.

How do we know that the altered card was the one that received a 7.5? He could have just sent an unaltered one and lied.

Genuine question, is it possible that the guy in the video sent similar un altered cards in to get graded to shill the cleaner he was advertising? Like to falsely show that you can clean cards and still get them graded? If not I agree this whole situation is b.s I just don't see how a grader would miss something like that especially when the say they don't accept altered cards...

@@OpossumBud no worry's, we get it. I for one hate actually taking care of cards and comics. But for some reason I love it too. So when I had the opportunity at the last New York comic con event to hand in my comics, and get Dan Mora to sign one, I jumped on it. Good time with my bro regardless. For comics its harder for me to keep them "mint". The ink is literally a ticking time bomb of destruction. So if my comics get slabbed up, less worry for me. I've come to find out though there's something about flipping through a binder of cards that just hits different. A good quality binder and sleeves go a long way. I preferably have a top loaded binder for all my Japanese CHR's, AR's, SAR's and the like. I do have a couple PSA slabs though just because I think they'd look cool to display. All in all it's coolness factor that I make decisions on. I agree with you that CGC took an L on this though. I'm oblivious to anything "sploogy" in comic restoration so hopefully that isn't getting overlooked as well with how they grade comics. You're the hero we need but don't deserve.
