    The Red Team/Blue Team section takes on a secondary level of awesomeness when you know that Scott was the original beatboxer for VP. So they were playing on that by Scott being Red and Layne being Blue.

      Also an element of the fact that Scott was with them, left, came back, and leaves after this.
      The "Not again" mimics the Grunts who will say it sometimes if you kill them. In lore, the Grunts believe in reincarnation, so they say this often because the Master Chief keeps killing them.

    I'm surprised that no one mentioned this already... but it's nice that I get to be the one to point this out. One of the reasons that the beatboxing/sound effects sound so cool in the middle is because Scott was the ORIGINAL beatboxers for VP (Layne was the OG Baritone), so they were able to make use of Scott's skills as well. He does a pretty cool beatboxing section in the VP video "Just Sing".

  • @GeorgeLifterMann

    Quick tip: Subharmonics are made by utilising ONLY your regular Vocal Chords. One pulsates at the fundamental (say C3) and the other one at a 5th above the fundamental (so that would be a G3) which gives us the result of an octave below, a low C (C2). Subharmonics are caused by the ratio 3:2. Basically every 3 "beats" of one note, 2 "beats" are made from the other note. Of course you can also use more subharmonics due to the Subharmonic Series. The 2nd Subharmonic is a Fifth below our 1st Sub. That would be an F1 in the case of a C2 1st Subharmonic. So the total of notes sung at the same time when using 2nd Subharmonics is C3 (fund.) + G3 (Fifth Above) + E3 (the 3rd above C, i'm not sure about that one) and then of course our subharmonic pitches (C2 + F1)
    Also, Geoff's lowest Subharmonic in this one, from the E1 he then drops to a B0, last B on the piano, it's insane.

    • @upsidedownpyramid7617
      @upsidedownpyramid7617 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you add in the false cords it becomes throat bass, primarily used in beatboxing. I used to be a beatboxer so I had a lot of trouble doing subs, I always used too much false cord and it still makes them a bit rough. I am trying to train myself to fully relax into subs.

    • @GeorgeLifterMann
      @GeorgeLifterMann 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@upsidedownpyramid7617 I tend to use both in choir settings or recordings of mine but i primarily focus on Throat Bass Subharmonics since they are a little easier for me. Also the projection and resonance compared to regular subharmonics is drastically different. I get lots of power using 1st Subharmonic Throat Bass or even 2nd Subharmonic Throat Bass (also known as Vibration Bass, as you probably already know since you're telling me that you're familiar with Beatboxing). Regular Subharmonics are too inconsistent to rely upon on live settings, but some pull it off nonetheless, like Geoff in some live performances that you can find across TH-cam.

    • @upsidedownpyramid7617
      @upsidedownpyramid7617 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GeorgeLifterMann Yeah its also a comfort thing, of course throat bass I feel like is easier to do wrong and hurt yourself because of the added distortion, it also doesn't fit in every kind of music. Subharmonics are safer, cleaner, and more versatile, but the throat bass subs allow you to project more, I can fill up a room with that sound without hurting myself if I do it right, same with chest fry. I think it comes a bit more natural to have the push feeling that those techniques have as opposed to the relaxed and quieter sub technique.

    Thank you for doing this. I'm really looking forward to this. I believe video games have produced more than a few masterpieces that have been overlooked because the art form is so new. HALO would be one of those.
    I realize the odds of you reading this are small, but I'd also love to hear your thoughts on "I Was Born For This," specifically from the Traveler Symphony by Austin Wintory, which can be found on his TH-cam channel. The song makes use of several languages, and I know you have performed in languages other than your native tongue, so I think you could offer some really interesting insight on the composition of the song and the challenges inherent in the approach Austin used. I would be different than your normal fare, but hopefully still worthwhile. Also, if you get around to it, I think you'll recognize a few of the faces in the choir.

    Marty, you should know how great of an impact this music has on my life. Many of my fondest memories in childhood are of playing Halo with my 4 brothers, and even today we occasionally play Halo together, including some of our oldest children. The music of Halo is one of the most important and memorable things about the franchise, and simply hearing the first few notes brings a wave of nostalgia that is unmatched by any other piece of media. I even use Halo tracks as background music for roleplaying game sessions with friends and family. So, from everyone in my family, thank you for the memories.

    Hey Elizabeth! This was great, cool concept to do a review with the composer!
    It wasn't completely clear in your video - I wonder if you caught that Geoff's B in the return of the main theme was a B0...!! He actually overlaid a B0 and a B1, both there and at the beginning of the song, but the first time isn't quite as easy to catch. Incredible!

    It's great you both watched.
    At the end of the video explains just how very familiar with the theme.
    Regarding, Geoff, surprisingly his range is extensive. I love his most recent (Ain't No Sunshine) as it highlights that range. I don't know all of VoicePlay's collection, but I think this is one of the few if ever instrumentals.
    Scott is one of the founding members coming from the same high school & community.
    He also was the original beat boxer of the group.
    It shows in the 'red team/blue team' section, as that was him & Layne doing 'sounds'.
    In fact. when Scott left, he's the one that taught Layne had to cover his spot beat boxing.
    ALL can sing.
    Scott's main focus now is acting.
    He was in Friday Night Lights, The Good Wife, Hart of Dixie, Scorpion & Lucifer along with movies, episodic TV (Law & Order among others) as well having done voiceovers for multiple video games.
    He's sung with them on occasion this is one of them to honor a friend. Which I absolutely love the end tribute.
