Don’t get me wrong, I love Geoff’s voice and I think there aren’t many songs he can’t do amazingly…. But I really can’t imagine anyone other than J singing the lead for this. (This is my favorite song from Princess and the Frog, so it made me so happy they did this one.)
Someone said the rattling of Geoff's bass booms was supposed to resemble a blown speaker! That's my favorite part of course! Now that you have worked with VoicePlay I am hoping for a collaboration with yourself and Geoff I feel like your voices would blend beautifully together.❤️🎵🎶
@@angelabowman1614 You keep repeating this, yes, Elizabeth herself on this channel said she has some backing vocals in it, so you don't know the full story.
Awesome review and some genius decisions by VP throughout. Toward the beginning Eli does a solo after J sprinkles his head. But his words are actually J’s character speaking through him. Such a neat touch. At the end on Geoff’s bass drop, I think it’s a nod back to the hip hop section. Geoff’s bass sounds like a rattling car stereo and Layne comes in with the DJ scratches. It is so cool and I enjoyed your analysis.
This was a good one. Always good to have J.NONE back. For some old-school VoicePlay spooky goodness, can I recommend their Grim Grinning Ghosts video? It's one of my Halloween staples. Also, Geoff's Headless Horseman proves he's the second coming of Thurl Ravenscroft himself.
So much fun with the groove changes! The abruptness of quick time signature and mood just makes it more entertaining! Jay really came through, and so did everyone else. Of course, Geoff, and especially Layne's awesome beat-boxing and bass drive.......oustanding!!!!
Thanks Elizabeth for another great analysis, your true passion always shines when you do an a cappella analysis and it’s so wonderful. It made a big difference when you pointed out the section with the “ah” vowel sound for the future lyrics, and the bass dropping to resolve the high section.
You have mentioned how their costuming (like the bone or nose prosthetic) effects the voice. I always assumed these music videos were lip synced (sing alongs) and actually recorded in a studio.
Great, fun and engaging reaction ❤️ I always love your reactions to Voiceplay and to Geoff, and I highly recommend that you check out Geoff's newest cover of 'Ghost Riders in the sky'.
Great reaction, Elizabeth! I always love the look of pure joy you have while watching these, like an excited little girl on Christmas morning gazing over her pile of presents! 🎄🎅 And thanks for the mention of actor Keith David, who as you said voiced the original Dr Facilier, and the other voice roles you mentioned. Besides his voice work, he was also Mary's stepfather in _There's Something About Mary (1998),_ and the general at NASA in the Bruce Willis 'blow up the comet' movie _Armageddon (1998),_ for those who want to put a face to the voice.
Long time listener, first time commenter. Big fan. I just heard Devon Townsends "Kingdom" live performance on EMG TV. Gave me goosebumps, a cacophony of sound and he seems to have such a great time performing. Would love your take as he goes from operatic to metal growl so easily but looks like it must hurt. Love your work.
The rattle in the bass drop sounds to me like one of those 'cars that go boom', but is also missing a bunch of the bolts that should be holding it together!! 🔊🔊🔊🔩🔩
At 12:52 the tongue makes its' grandest appearance yet, lol. That's what I always look for. It's the Elizabeth stamp of approval. On another note, I'd like to get your take on a new PMJ release. It's a cover of "Love Story" by Taylor Swift. I know what most are thinking, but you know what Scott can do with an arrangement, and the featured singer, Caity Gyorgy, is spectacular.
Love your reactions as always. Hoping to see you do some more Dio :). There are at least three Dio pieces you should do at some point. One is mistreated, from his rainbow era, live in Munich 1977. The other two are from his sabbath days, Sign of the southern cross, studio version, and finally falling off the edge of the world, live. The last one is a performance only months before his death.
Anything and from the 1977 Munich show is worthy of review/reaction, it was such an amazing show! Falling Of The Edge Of The World is excellent, so is Shadow Of The Wind, but I would love to see her reaction to Metal Will Never Die by The Rods featuring RJD.
In a movie you can get away with stopping the music and vocals in the middle of a song to do some more dialog or what have you, but in a cover like this it would be awkward, so delivering the dialog as a sort of rap to keep the musical flow moving is definitely the way to go. Maybe not the only choice, but almost certainly the best/smartest one.
Always love your videos! They always brighten my day! I would love to do a video with you sometime I'm a singer and voice actor as well! I would love to take lessons with you that would be epic!
Heyy great video as always !! ;) Just a correction, because I'm French. Facilier doesn't mean facilitate. The word than means facilitate is "faciliter". The character's name lacks a T to be the french word. But I guess they may have made a play on the word for his name.
Got two I'd love, love, love to hear you react to. Hide and Seek (Ding Dong) by VoicePlay. Very Halloween. The second is Nessun Dorma by Rob and Austin from Home Free. Would love to hear your reaction to that! And , while I love the different artists Voice Play brings in, I miss J. None!
I love how they re-created the storyline from the movie just like they did in Oogie Boogie. I believe Keith David did those vocals as well. Neat fact about Dr. Facilier‘s name. Did you notice during the hoodoo voodoo section that the sacrificial chicken 🐔 was HeiHei from Moana? Also the set was used in Geoff’s cover of Way Down. Pretty funny to hear you explain that those ooooohs are generally spooky sounds since you just finished contributing yours to this year’s Halloween video😂. Thank you for explaining how all the vowels affect the overall mood. Now I have to go back and listen to karaoke tracks again. As someone with no musical training I have found that listening to analyses like yours and then listening to the karaoke track really helps me appreciate the entire performance and not just the lead vocals which has always been my general inclination.
Sorry to say so but "facilier" isn't a french word but "faciliter" is indeed from the verb "facilitate". Love the reaction as always and Voiceplay definitely nailed this song which is one of my favorite.
May I suggest you check out Voiceplay's ACA Top 10 - Disney Heroes or any of that series. It's a fun medley and the video shows a lot of voiceplay's playful personality. May I also suggest Voiceplay's Queen in 5 mins. not only is it another great voiceplay medley, of Queen songs non the less, but the video is very entertaining and has some 'lore'. I remember the paragraphs in the comments analysing it, Thank you for the wonderful video and and insights. You help me catch and appreciate so many more details in these pieces of art.
You always bring things to the table that I never singled out. How did you hold out on this one for a whole year? I think I've watched it at least once a week. Can I help talk you into doing Hide and Seek (Ding Dong)? I would love, love, love to hear your take on it.
Best song ever for Halloween is Bauhaus' Bela Lugosi's Dead live at Coachella. You should totally react to that. Peter Murphy is a goth icon and that song is considered the first goth single. If possible, don't look at the thumbnail before the reaction. It's a surprise. That Coachella performance was one of a kind. You'll be more than interested cause there's no dropoff in the performance even in his particular condition on that night.
KING DIAMOND has a song called HALLOWEEN. Live at The Fillmore in Philadelphia is a great version. He's also got a Christmas song called No Presents For Christmas

Michael Parè was a really cool looking guy that had a string of hits, but didn't seem to stretch it into a very long career. Though, the actual music from the films was the product of a band called John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, that were sort of a poor man's Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, that were popular as a live band working the New England circuit, had a couple hits, but were generally over looked by record labels due to their similarity to Bruce and the E Street Band, until the popularity of the movie, and a few other movies that followed. I tried to find a good example to provide for you, and I feel like the sequel has a lot more examples of Michael Parè performing, but most of the videos of John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band on TH-cam have bad audio. It's probably for the best though, because what I do have is "On The Dark Side", which was the popular song that came from the original movie, and that more people are likely to know anyways. This first clip was the music video with footage from the movie of Michael Parè performing. th-cam.com/video/Wk0Kckv-tqQ/w-d-xo.html This second is the music video of John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band th-cam.com/video/GgIsyoxZ7Uw/w-d-xo.html This last clip is John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band doing a live performance of a few songs on MTV in 1984. I want to see your analysis of Hide and Seek (ding dong) i know you did voice over's in it.. and I loved them but i think you have an opportunity to give us more background on this and i don't know if you have seen the finished song or not (if you have it still would be nice to hear your overview and insight on it)
Would like to see you do a deep dive on Axl Rose. I'd love for an explination on what people are taking about for his nom falsetto voice singing. He is considered a bass-barriton but has a near 6 octave range that goes higher than oprha sopranos using some technicque Ive never heard you discuss here. If you get interested. make sure to crowd source which songs. He doesnt often play with his low range, but he's in Garth Brooks Friends in low Places "low" type range amd his upper end chops and the overtones and quality of his voice is what made him a star. Massive endurance as well. Easily some 30 second power notes he's held. It'd a shame he let himself get out of shape, but it's thought some of the loss has just been because of damage due to the techniques he choose. "Deal with the devil" type thing. Likely wouldnt have been as big without taking on the damaging style.
I love love love your reactions! Cannot wait to watch this one. I’ve got a request that I know won’t get many likes but the performance is so good. Daniel Johns (of silverchair) cover of Smells like Teen Spirit live performance with only a piano and harp.
Please do a reaction video of Voice Plays cover song Hide & Seek ( Ding Dong). We heard you had a part in it & everyone is guessing what part. Do tell us please.
I don't sing and I don't play an instrument in fact I don't understand music let alone singing but I thoroughly enjoy it. To help me understand could you answer two questions, 1 what is singing what separates it from other noises that come out of the mouth? 2 can anybody sing with the right teaching and practice assuming they have undamaged vocal chords and can breath normally? Many thanks for your analysis and comments they are helping me to understand.
It really does amaze me at times at how 'just' voices can create such a full sound, as if there's instruments involved. Very, very cool. TCV Halloween is in full force now! 😈 Mwah-hahahaha!
I've got a suggestion to check out as well, "Pure Massacre" by Silverchair. Daniel Johns has an amazing voice and was I think 15 or 16 when Silverchair released their first album.
17:04 That 'interesting rattle' by Layne, I'm thinking that's all him, not a production effect. It reminds me of how he ended 'We Don't Talk About Bruno', with his voice distortion there, containing a raspy hum and (I think) a bit of 'ingressive phonation', or 'inward bass beatbox'.
People forget that Geoff beatboxes too. I mean can you imagine a better voice made in the heavens for dropping the bass beats? It feels like he used to do it more way back in the day.
For Halloween I think you should check out Halloween by Helloween. Lyric version. Unfortunately the official video was shortened. Missing a lot of great stuff.
Great Video! It's my first time commenting on one of your Videos, but i just gotta ask you to react to EDEN. Songs like wake up, crash, gravity end credits, times like these. There are so many great songs, his music is so emotional, therapeutic, downright depressive... Would really love to hear your take on his music. ❤️
A little late to the party here, but catching up on videos. I think Geoff's face give you an idea of the creation of the strange rattle on the bass beat. In fact you even paused it right on his face while you were trying to figure out what's going on. It's at 17:03 in your video. If you watch (and listen) closely during the entire performance, it seems that Geoff is handling the bass beat while Lane is handling the snare, cymbals, and toms sounds.
Hi, have you ever done anything by Journey? I would love to hear your analysis of SP's vocals. Separate Ways could be one song to listen to..... Cheers Joe :)
Would love for you to check out the Finnish band "Poets of the fall", The singer is so amazing live. Highly theatrical and poetic persona. Love songs like "Temple Of thoughts live studio" or their Alexander Theater stuff.
I absolutely love your Metal Vocal Analyses and I know you get suggestions all the time but I’m not sure if you’ve ever looked into Joji. Especially his more recent song “Glimpse of Us”. It’s not a metal song at all by the way. It also has a Music Video that, in juxtaposition with the song, is just very interesting and provoking with the beautiful vocal harmonies. Worth checking out :) I can’t stop listening to it. Very addictive, sad and beautiful song.
Or even Joji - ATTENTION | A COLORS SHOW Both songs get me every time. Very interesting vocal projection in Attention. I realise it’s not Halloween themed. Just thought it was worth suggesting :) is anyone else a fan?
just cause I like noting his wonderful work an additional credit of Keith David was when he voiced Goliath from the Disney Cartoon Gargoyles and one of his more notable video game roles is that of Captain Anderson from Mass Effect and the Arbiter from Halo
Regarding the singing tiki masks, I remember one time for a wide world of entertainment at Disney World sitting alone in the Tiki Room at about midnight or so, again no one in the room. A more creeping prickly at the back of your neck feeling one cannot have.
1:45 Quick note: "Faciliter" is the actual French translation for "to facilitate" . "Facilier" would actually be closer to the French word "facile", which means "easy"... so on the whole, this wouldn't change your interpretation (as "the one who facilitates") too much 😉
00:51 J. is amazingly good at buying into the 19th-century Southern white stereotype of "a blackamoor rolling his wicked eyes at me" while knowing EXACTLY what he's doing. The top hat is a direct callout to Baron Samedi from NO's voudun culture. 01:08 The glitter is an allusion to Doctor John (a voudun believer and practitioner) and his gris-gris music at the beginning of the 70s. The Doctor always put glitter into his gris-gris bag, and scattered it during performance to enhance the "spells" of his music. 01:46 Docteur Facilier could also be translated colloquially to "Doctor Git'r'Done." 04:04 I believe the only voice they processed at this point was Geoff's; I think they Autotuned the hell out of him here. 04:25 Not only is Layne's bone-in-the-nose a bow to B-movie stock "savages," it's a direct allusion to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wore an identical [prop] bone whenever he performed "I Put a Spell on You." (A clip holds it to his septum.) 13:07 That ain't Voudun, that's basic psychotherapy!
Hi Elizabeth, May I suggest a holiday “ reaction and analysis “ video for you to do for Christmas ? I’d love to hear your analysis of King and Country’s “ Little Drummer Boy “ live version.

For others spooky themed groups, The Merkins are a horror themed parody group. They have a ton of covers, but I'd suggest their song Slashstreet Boys - 'I'll Kill You That Way' as a start.
this was really fun they did... another take on this sang by Thomas Sanders with others in "Friends On the Other Side - Disney Villain Mash-Up | Thomas Sanders" where they mashed up a few villain songs while playing this.. highly recommend checking out
speaking of friends on the other side, have they done anything form "coprse bride" yet? like... "reamains of the day". they have quite a bit of "nightmare" in their video list but there is more Burton stuff to explore. sort of really want to hear "a little priest" from them...
With Halloween, right around the corner, I have a request.... Korn "Daddy" I must warn you it's a hard song to listen to the song but would love to hear your take on it.
May I suggest Five Finger Death Punch’s Ivan Moody vocal reaction? His voice is legendary and very underrated as many tend to hate on the band. I personally don’t think there’s anyone else like him, his yell, his singing, his anger. It’s passionate. Maybe react to the song Roll Dem Bones by Five Finger Death Punch?

It's probably for the best though, because what I do have is "On The Dark Side", which was the popular song that came from the original movie, and that more people are likely to know anyways.
This first clip was the music video with footage from the movie of Michael Parè performing.

This last clip is John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band doing a live performance of a few songs on MTV in 1984. This song begins about 12:20

Ms Elizabeth, Amazed you haven't done a reaction of Geoffs new vid. "Ghost Riders".
Keith David is also well-known to Disney fans as the voice of Goliath in Gargoyles.
Mariza - gente da minha terra.. reaction.. thank you very much.
It really does amaze me at times at how 'just' voices can create such a full sound, as if there's instruments involved. Very, very cool. TCV Halloween is in full force now! 😈 Mwah-hahahaha!
I would highly recommend a review of The Dead South. An amazing band, would like to have your thoughts on them!
I've got a suggestion to check out as well, "Pure Massacre" by Silverchair. Daniel Johns has an amazing voice and was I think 15 or 16 when Silverchair released their first album.
love this song so much
Great! Next are The Headless Horseman from Geoff Castellucci and Kidnap Sandy Claws from Voiceplay also
The "basse" is incredible !!!
always fun to watch you get jumpy with delight
17:04 That 'interesting rattle' by Layne, I'm thinking that's all him, not a production effect. It reminds me of how he ended 'We Don't Talk About Bruno', with his voice distortion there, containing a raspy hum and (I think) a bit of 'ingressive phonation', or 'inward bass beatbox'.
People forget that Geoff beatboxes too. I mean can you imagine a better voice made in the heavens for dropping the bass beats? It feels like he used to do it more way back in the day.
Please watch Ron and Austin (home free) sing Opera!!!!!!!!!💖💖💖
There is a great Halloween song called Scare Me by a band called Ludo.
Also there biggest hit Love Me Dead would be a great song to analyze IMO.
Waiting annenmaykantereit covers, so vibe (toms dinner or can't get out of my head)
For Halloween I think you should check out Halloween by Helloween. Lyric version. Unfortunately the official video was shortened. Missing a lot of great stuff.
You should react to Geoff's new cover of Ghost Riders in the Sky
Great Video! It's my first time commenting on one of your Videos, but i just gotta ask you to react to EDEN. Songs like wake up, crash, gravity end credits, times like these. There are so many great songs, his music is so emotional, therapeutic, downright depressive... Would really love to hear your take on his music. ❤️
every time Geoff sings , it makes you giggle , i love it
A little late to the party here, but catching up on videos.
Good morning from Calgary
Hi, have you ever done anything by Journey? I would love to hear your analysis of SP's vocals. Separate Ways could be one song to listen to..... Cheers Joe :)
Would love for you to check out the Finnish band "Poets of the fall", The singer is so amazing live. Highly theatrical and poetic persona. Love songs like "Temple Of thoughts live studio" or their Alexander Theater stuff.
Great reaction and song!
Or even Joji - ATTENTION | A COLORS SHOW
Both songs get me every time.
1:45 Quick note:
"Faciliter" is the actual French translation for "to facilitate" .
01:46 Docteur Facilier could also be translated colloquially to "Doctor Git'r'Done."
04:04 I believe the only voice they processed at this point was Geoff's; I think they Autotuned the hell out of him here.
04:25 Not only is Layne's bone-in-the-nose a bow to B-movie stock "savages," it's a direct allusion to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wore an identical [prop] bone whenever he performed "I Put a Spell on You." (A clip holds it to his septum.)
13:07 That ain't Voudun, that's basic psychotherapy!
Since Halloween is getting close, some Halloween might be appropriate? Maybe "A Tale That Wasn't Right"?
Can't go wrong with Elizabeth + VP, such a good combo!
Hi Elizabeth, May I suggest a holiday “ reaction and analysis “ video for you to do for Christmas ? I’d love to hear your analysis of King and Country’s “ Little Drummer Boy “ live version.
Elizabeth I'm recommending that you listen to the beginning of Bill Mars podcast with Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates. He talks about the vocal track and with the top throat doctor said about it, I found it very interesting
Hello from Sweden ✨🙏🏻😊🇸🇪
“Holy Wars… The punishment due” - Megadeth PLEASE 🙌🏻
Do you think you'll be able to react/analyze some of the Pattycake production songs please?
Nice. Would love to hear more of your reactions to Avi Kaplan's newest album release "Floating On A Dream". It's been a year since you reacted to Avi's solo music. 😀
As someone who actually has ' Friends on the Other Side ' , seeing this come from Voiceplay is a delight for me. And Seeing it being evaluated by the Charismatic Voice is even more so.😊✌️❤️
For others spooky themed groups, The Merkins are a horror themed parody group.
I'd really like to see this as well! Especially some of the earlier work, or their cover of a New Level by Pantera!
4:55 Your ability to pause the video at the perfect moments is uncanny.🤣
