He came to our city for his last tour. He had a teleprompter to help him with the songs. The audience was with him and for him. It took great courage to do what he did. He was a class act.
So good that he had the support to keep playing----when dementia affects memory and remembering words to communicate---most people still remember the music of songs they have sung in their life----so he still could play his music ----- and we enjoyed hearing it---- right up till the end.....
I was a kid about 12 years old when I became aware of Glen Campbell. I was trying to play guitar and knew how great what I was hearing really was. He blew me away and though my musical direction was different I always listened to him play. One of the best things I ever heard was Glen playing "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes it gave me chills. I cried when I watched his documentary and again when I heard he passed. Talents like his are a rare and wonderful thing God Blessed Glen with the ability to bring joy to many.
Here in Glasgow I had a friend, a sound engineer who worked with him on his last tour. He told me Glen was fine if he had the song list on a laptop in front of him. There’s footage of Glen, obviously ill from dementia, playing and doing a brilliant solo.

He was a 5 star talent, his singing was spectacular , may have been the greatest guitar player of em all , had a number one ranked TV variety show , could relate stories mostly self deprecating that'd have me rolling on the floor laughing , and dang it he got to make a movie with John Wayne !! The women , old or young loved the guy including my Mom who once said he could put his shoes by her couch anytime , I nearly fell over when Ma said that. Glen , Buck Owens and Merle Haggard I believe Ma would have molested em..lol..

Plus that little morse code piano tapping is so eerie and evocative. When I first heard this on the local radio in Detroit...it just sort of broke my year. Beautiful!!!Plus..Glen's voice..just so fits the lyrics. And let's not forget Webb's contribution...just...Stellar.

When I was eleven my Mother got me a guitar and a Glen Campbell song book for Christmas. I have been a huge fan ever since and of course like so many others I miss him now that he is gone. One of the very best things about youtube is all of these great old clips from TV shows and concerts, that I have never seen before are helping reintroduce me to his talent and his humanity. This was the perfect bromance when it comes to an incredible songwriter and singer. To see 2 men care so deeply towards each other, and it's genuine, closer than brothers, but not gay either. It's such a beautiful thing. I love a man who can be strong, yet vulnerable. I love seeing interviews with Jimmy and Glen because of how they compliment each other. The more I listen to Glen speak, I am listening for things that might be interpreted as early Alzheimer's. I wish I could know when my mom's began. It was a long time before we truly knew what was going on. It wasn't until dad died that my sisters and I realized she wasn't just forgetful. I miss Glen, but all it takes are a few strokes on the keyboard and there he is, so young and vibrant.

I don't recall ever hearing this particular ending. I like it! Shows off his natural three octave range. I sing and most folk even enjoy it when I do, but Glenn's voice, even as you can start to hear the age in it, is so expressive and clear and he was 64 at the time of this video. I hope my voice holds up half as well, as I just turned 60 this year and can already feel the high notes coming out w/ a whole lot more efffort, if I can reach them. smh
I was a Wichita lineman at the time this song was written. I was working my way through college by working for the Texas Electric Service Company in Wichita Falls, TX. One of my crew mates had a country band, and I always wondered if he had a connection to this song.
