  • Pretty much everything you need to know how to fix p0448 and p0447 on your vehicle as example 2012 Nissan Pathfinder with 4.0L V8 engine but same precision can be used for Nissan Frontier and Nissan Xterra. P0448 P0447 EVAP EMISSION VENT CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED OPEN. NISSAN PATHFINDER, FRONTIER, XTRERRA are very common. No more evap leaks. Basic principals can be used on most of the gasoline vehicles.
    In this video you will find charcoal canister, vent valve removal and installation. How to test wiring circuit down to the vent solenoid and test vent valve solenoid as well.
    DTC P0448 code means that circuit for the evaporative emission control system's vent has shorted, or that the valve for this system is stuck in the closed position.
    The P0447 code is defined as EVAP Emission Control System vent valve solenoid circuit open.
    Let's dive in!

    Did everything you did , and I cleared the code . It came on again about 15 minutes later .. I got it to finally fill up to a full tank .. should I just clear it again and recheck or do I need to replace the charcoal canister . There was liquid in the black box when I pulled the part out

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeh, I erased the code after the repair and it never came back again. Clear the code and check it again if it will come back. You should not get any liquid fuel inside charcoal canister. Most likely it got gas inside because vehicle was overfilled by topping off your gas tank. Canister can be clean by using low pressure compressed air, sometimes it helps.

    ‘16 Frontier.. Nissan wanted $1200... said the evap canister is bad and they have to drop the tank. Thanks to this video I just bought the canister and the two sensors. Cost me $200 total and took me about 25 mins to change. Don’t forget to buy the pliers for the fuel hose connection.

    You can do this without pulling the can out and without removing the evap line with the clip. Drop the can down , Disconnect all lines accept for the center evap line with the clip. You will have room to access the tabs on the vent and spin it counter clockwise and it comes right out. Make sure to put a little lube on the new o-ring, helps with installing the new vent.

    This video helped me out a bunch. I couldn’t get the charcoal canister off because the bolt was all rusty and seized. So I just took of the plastic wheel well, shoved my hand inside, and 30 mins later I finally had the valve out lol.
    Thanks for the helpful video.

    Happy to subscribe PistonShack. This is a master class in this subject and is exactly what I'm looking for to try and begin to solve my problems. I have a 2011 Xterra throwing codes for small evap link P0456, random misfire P0300 and P0150 O2 sensor error. I think I have multiple issues but I thought I would start with this valve as the Xterra has a common issue with deterioration of the O ring or it's contact on the valve thus throwing the P0456. I'm wondering if the O ring leak or faulty valve could cause the sensor and misfire errors also. Thanks for an excellent video. P.S. This video has also made me realize that I am guilty of over filling my tank and that may very well be the source of my issue if there is contamination or damage to the canister itself.

    Thanks for the very detailed video. I will appreciate it if you can do a video on how to test the short circuit wire on VIAS control solenoid for Nissan Murano 2005. I know my sensor is good what wire is short. I got the P0447 code. Everything else in the Evap system is either replaced with original parts or checked. I can see the smoke coming from the VIAS sensor which I replaced few times with no luck. so it's a short circuit from the wire end. A lot of people with first and second-generation Murano's and pathfinders are dealing with it. It will be very helpful if you can do a detailed video on that issue and explain what equipment is needed, where to buy and how to use it properly. Thanks again, you are a great help.

    I have P0447 and tested power at the terminal and control valve. Both were good but still Po447, whats next?

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Mark. Sorry for the late respond. I hope next testing steps will help you to troubleshoot the code. Cause of the p0447 is an improper voltage signal is sent to ECM through EVAP canister vent control valve.
      First, before performing an testing procedure, confirm battery voltage is more than 11V at idle. I would recommend you to find wiring diagram or service repair manual for your vehicle.
      1. CHECK EVAP CANISTER VENT CONTROL VALVE CIRCUIT. Turn ignition switch OFF and then ON.
      Select “VENT CONTROL/V” in “ACTIVE TEST” mode with CONSULT.
      SELECT “ON/OFF” on CONSULT screen (use OBD scan tool)
      Check for operating sound of the valve. Clicking noise should be heard.
      2.CHECK EVAP CANISTER VENT CONTROL VALVE POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT. 1. Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect EVAP canister vent control valve (3) harness connector. Turn ignition switch ON. Check voltage between EVAP canister vent control valve terminal 1. Should see battery voltage.
      3. CHECK EVAP CANISTER VENT CONTROL VALVE OUTPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT. Turn ignition switch OFF.
      Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal 117 and EVAP canister vent control valve terminal 2. Refer to Wiring Diagram. Also check: Harness connectors C1, E41. Harness for open or short between EVAP canister vent control valve and ECM
      4. CHECK RUBBER TUBE FOR CLOGGING.
      5. CHECK DRAIN FILTER. Drain filter connected to another end of Canister Vent Valve.
      Let me know how everything is going. Cheers!

    Hi, I've got a 2012 frontier pro4x. I've had both the evap solenoid valve and charcoal canister replaced and my truck is still throwing a P0448 code. I've also taken both off and cleaned the dust out of them with air...and it's still thowing the P0448 code. Any ideas/advice/suggestions?

I replaced it with an aftermarket and it resolved the code. Then it started throwing a P0442 evap leak code..hence the trade in. Hope this helps best of luck.

      @@MrSnowlver That's what happend to me as well. I actually went through 3 valves, on the 3rd used an aftermarket and was able to clear the code. I also had to clear the permanent code twice before it stayed clear. There is also another solenoid valve up on the engine that apparently goes out as well. It's a bummer ...it's good engine and the frontier I had drove well...but there are just too many small issues that come up. Hopefully, this helps.
