As a horse person this is so interesting to me, as horse people know, we regularly teach our horses to pick up their feet so we don’t need to use a chute. So interesting to see the differences in hoof care and how compassionate you are for these animals. ❤️

I am a horse owner too and have often wondered about using a crush for horses. I am sure many have tried and it probably caused more damage with a horses strong flight response.

Do you make videos of your horses? I've always since I was like 5 or 6 wanted one. Since I was faced with my own mortality and fought to live and not be another statistic to cancer, it's my #1 on my bucket list now. My vet who also goes to mass at the same church as I do said if I get one I can stable it on his little farm. He knows the fight I had and I didnt think I'd make it to 40. I'm 41 now and not gonna miss any more of what beautiful things God has blessed us. Sorry for the book lol

The horses I have had or looked after etc were used to doing it. Yeah yeah be careful of the frog and do it the right way etc was one of the first things you were trained/taught/enforced to do. Something I later insisted on too.
Curry comb whatever sure but we were always taught to do this every time, even if camping/ rounding up. Well especially, wanna be stuck up in the High Country with a lame horse?
I think we have more interaction with our horses than say sheep or cows which is maybe what makes it easier. Never had a horse called 917 etc.
      Take it easy from Australia.

I think there is no comparison trimming a cow trapped in a crush to trimming or shoeing a horses feet. Horses are unpredictable and dangerous, and the farrier is reliant on the handler to keep it under control, which is unreliable at best. Don't think that because you pick your horses feet out that it's the same as holding it between your knees while you cut, trim, file, and nail a metal shoe on. It's dangerous work. Appreciate your farrier!

If you’re not vegan, you’re just virtue signalling, and you still directly and pay for the abuse and torture of other animals. Out of sight, out of mind, huh. You do realise these cows are basically constantly bred, have their calves ripped away from them and the cows often cry for days straight after it happens. But they need to be bred constantly so they are always lactating, they don’t just do it automatically. Meanwhile the calf gets sent off and gets stuffed in a veal crate, where it’s tied up and can’t even actually move, so it stays ‘nice and tender’ until it’s throat is slit and it’s corpse is mutilated into pretty little pieces for a supermarket weeks later. Meanwhile mama cow is milked and bred, milked and bred, till the cows milk starts to dry up
Then when that starts to happen they’re just a useless commodity and they have their throats slit, and they’re ground up into mince.
      And the process starts again.
And you think someone trimming the feet of neglected abused tortured animals living a life of hell is a good thing??
      Lol delusional much?
At least meat cows actually arguably have a much less cruel life then dairy cattle.
Imagine being constantly bred and milked and having your babies ripped away from you till you can no longer stand or make milk anymore.
Hope that cheese you had was worth it

    • @y_fam_goeglyd
      @y_fam_goeglyd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

As a greyhound owner of over 30 years, I really get that description. I've heard "oh, they're so skinny, aren't they always hungry?" - er, no! Some are food obsessed, but then again, so are some labs, bully-breeds, all hound dog breeds...
My current boy (and last girl) is a pain in the arse to get to eat. He likes the food but there's no competition, so he'll just eat it as and when he feels like it, which can really screw up our plans! Obviously, treats are a different thing - but even then, he'll turn one down if it's not the one he wants.
They're sprinters, not marathon runners, so they don't store up fat. A race-ready hound (mine are/have been all ex-racers) should have the last three ribs just visible, and after retirement, they should be easily felt but they don't have to be seen. Any more weight than that is unhealthy. Tbh, even my most food obsessed hounds have self-regulated their weight. They'll take a day off from eating if they're getting a bit overweight. Nothing wrong with them, stomach's fine, they just decide to eat tomorrow instead. One had one ambition in life, though - how to eat and sleep at the same time! He would sometimes lie down, stick his head in his bowl and eat 🤣

I know exactly what you mean about that perfect time of the morning. One of my favorite memories came from high school when I worked at a dairy farm. It was winter in Ohio it was cold I was starting to feel pretty rough. I had come outside from the barn and the sun was as bright as it could be no wind, all the sound had gone I didn't feel the cold anymore it was a perfect moment of peace.

The same only different... I am a nurse. I worked 11:00PM -7:30 AM. Just before sunrise and the world was silent, even in the middle of the city. I would watch out of the window for a few minutes. Then the cars with the day shift staff would start arriving. The brief time of stillness was sacred. Got the energy to finish the shift.

Hi Graeme! I just wanted to leave you a comment. I have been following you from the very beginning of your channel and you are one of my favorites. Lately i have noticed you have changed the approach to your channel/videos. You seem to be no longer following cows like you did before. From problem to healing. One of the things i love about your channel and what i think is special is how you show us from problem through the ups and downs and healing of the cows. I loved seeing 812 and all the other cows you healed. I have a print of 812 for crying out loud! This video was good but you almost didn't show any hoof trimming and you talked about the bull but didn't show any of the work you did on him. Just don't change so much that you lose what made you special in the first place. Love you.

Paying attention to sanitizing your equipment is paramount so that there's no chance of spreading disease from one farm to the next. It's a massive undertaking that you do, a young man's job for sure. I come from ranch lands that are medium to low moisture unlike Scotland where there's a good amount of rain, and hooves are constantly exposed to moisture. Looking at the cattle I recognize some of the breeds.
