Thank you so much for having me, Reason fam, and for Fess's excellent questions! I've been making improvements to this setup since ADE and am excited to share more when the time arises.
So cool. I'm running almost the exact same live setup/workflow. Its a rare thing.... I do still struggle keeping the lantency in check / playable. So you've made me look into the E-rm multiclock. Also the advanced midi editor you've mentioned is such and overlooked feat. Using it with some smart combinator settings is basically allowing full MPE control over Reason patches while playing the Linnstrument. Also also fellow rotterdamer :)
Awesome demonstration! This video here is a clear representation that a DAW is primarily a tool, and like any tool, it is only as good as what you do with it. Very inspiring and congrats to Beyun for such a creative approach.
Can we get more videos like this?! Ever since I've switched from Ableton I've wanted to see reason used in a live setting! This is so cool and so informational thank you ❤
Yes! More is coming :) I'm currently preparing & filming a series for my channel that will dive into more details using Reason 12 in a live setting, as well as some improvements I've been making with the process (and code I've been writing) since ADE. The first few videos should be ready around March/April. Also looking forward to doing more workshops like this in the future. Reason is an incredibly powerful bridge between hardware and software in a live setting (and so much fun).
I get what Beyun is doing with the timeline. I would use Blocks to achieve the same thing more efficiently, painting an arrangement, then jamming over the top.

This is great! Lots of very cool info here. One thing that would have really helped would have been to be capturing the screen feed as well with an HDMI capture device. It can be a little challenging to understand some of the details of her setup within Reason when we can't really see it that well in the video.
Thank you! I agree about the screen capture-sorry about that! Due to technical difficulties and schedule surprises, we didn't have time to set it up that day. I think people overlook the capabilities of Reason allot these days, I see allot of other brands new plugins that do functions that Reason devices could do a decade ago. If You have Reason there devices can be used to make pretty much music Genre of music.
I truly think it's simply the look of the program that causes people to overlook how powerful it is. I truly believed if they just gave the UI interface a different "skin" you'd see more people using it.
@@algokose4027 Are you talking about giving Reason devices a new skin set or the DAW its self? The devices look good to Me and the DAWs look its self is better then what Pro Tools looks like.
Really needed a screen capture of what's going on with her laptop. Kinda hard to parse what's going on without seeing what's she's done. I really want to get my head wrapped around this as I am working up to playing live and would really like to use Reason to do it.
I feel that Reason would've done the music making community a huge favor by embracing and incorporating more control surfaces into it's workflow. I know there are many controllers that work with reason but none have a 1:1 dedicated control surface for the rack. Nektar tried it but it didn't seem to appeal to the folks at reason much even tho there is nothing that rack is begging for more than a dedicated control surface for optimal studio workflow and performance.
I'd love to buy a dedicated work surface that also incorporates controls for VST3s/Kontakt. Reason's version of "Push" will never happen but I'd jump on it.
Awesome demonstration of the live capabilities 👍 What I discovered as a little bit hard is loop recording audio and I don’t now if there is an easier way: 1. I run my track in reason and want to record an audio track for a loop from an external device 2. When the audio recording hits the end of the loop it restarts at the beginning and overrides the previous recorded sound But I would like to record for the loop once and when it reaches the end of the loop it stops recording without replacing anything recorded previously. Currently I do this by a custom auto keyboard event tracker software which works like this: when sequencer is recording and at the end of a loop autopress stop recording. Dont know if I explained it good. Does someone knows an easier trick to do that?
I found something on reddit explaining how to basically set up Reason like a loopstation. I cant find it at the moment. It wasn't perfect. For instance, you can't autoloop a 2 bar track into a 4 or 8 bar track. So each loop has to be as long as your longest loop. It won't auto copy/paste, or reset. I recommend an RC505.
It's coming! :) I'm currently preparing & filming a series for my channel that will go into more details, including diving into and sharing some code I've written to make the interfacing between the Octatrack and Reason more seamless. The first few videos should be ready around March/April.
I really wanna know more about how the hardware devices are interacting with the NNXT's and the signal flow for both midi and audio, it sounds awesome but im definitely missing a piece or two of the puzzle.

For me it's about whatever it takes to keep the party going. You will obviously utilise and gravitate toward what resonates with you more depending on the task at hand. Ableton and Reason are both equally amazing. Go-go whatever works best for you.

Good work DJ Beyun. I also have never been to an ADE event, but I definitely am going to the next ADE 2024 in October
This is awesome! I went from Ableton to Reason years ago myself and never looked back. The software just begs you to experiment and make new sounds
I now use bitwig+reason workflow, which makes me broaden my horizons and rethink how I set up my live show.
Same here bitwig/reason are awesome combo
