    This has to be the best Reason related video I've seen in many years. I want more of these "Reason as a DAW" videos. This is the kind of stuff that inspires us Reason users to make more music. Well done Sharpson and Reason Studios on this one.

    Blocks are really useful and not promoted enough by RS. Vids I see using Blocks are typically like this vid. Just used to colour code an arrangement when there is so much more using blocks can bring. I use blocks with the addition of extra note lanes per instrument so I can toggle on/off note lanes when I want to. This way, you don’t need extra blocks for variation. I also use blocks to hold different chord progressions to try different arrangements and progressions.

    It is very nice to (finally) hear someone who speaks and presents well. I am not really into what he suggests, BUT there is a logic to it and seeing his pre-made sounds are suited to his intended results (and not RND hopefulness) it is working well for the formulaics that define EDMyness. Giving himself an Arrangement and therefore Targets has a fair sense. Musicians use targets (or "set pieces" like furniture in a room) to help make their pieces work all the time. IF personal parts are added around these set pieces, the bones can become something ok - assuming of course he is not correct about Spotifry (non)listeners not wanting to hear creativity (or is that humanity). "Keep it quick, Keep it going" is very good advice as many DOA from overworking rather than focusing on the target and moving forward.
    :-)

    Even though this is not the type of music I make I found some good workflow tips here. Developing a workflow that enables creating of a complete song quickly is something I' ve struggled with. Blocks and Tower + Pyramid are techinics I'm going to employ on my next song idea.

    The idea of all this Ctrl+D without any song planning makes me recoil but I guess if the overall message is to take advantage of Combinators to save time or to get something on the canvas then cool. Another trick which saves even more time if you're going in this direction then you want to build out the elements of the song within each pattern of the Block View in bite-sized pieces especially with drums. That way later on during Song View instead of Ctrl+D or drag 'n drop the individual clips you can draw those small blocks or patterns up top with the pencil and it automatically repeats as many times as long or as short as you need it whether it's one instrument or 20 instruments. Then if you want to add variety for particular parts of the song in Song View then what you record on top in Song View will override what's underneath just for that 1 part of the song. The patterns underneath in Block View still remain untouched if you change your mind on that variation or decide to delete what's on top later. 😃

      @@rjbush7955 Dude you're brilliant because I never thought about combining the two concepts into blocks like that and I keep forgetting about note lanes! It's one of those things where I'll use it for a month and then forget about it for a year or two after that. But yeah I totally agree that using blocks just as a label or place holder is such wasted potential. While I appreciate this channel and the different personalities that produce content for it, as someone who's more seasoned with Reason you gotta bring that heat beyond surface level. I want unorthodoxy, to see new mixing techniques, new ways of using grooves and definitely a lot more on block mode. It doesn't have to be all the time because beginners definitely need love and encouragement but bring on the advanced stuff please! 😎

    The days where artists and producers took time to craft the perfect music and sound is over and it is aa case of quantity over quality. The music sounds good but not necessarily memorable because those true classic masterpieces of records often took years to craft and can never been replicated in the space of a few hours.

      Thing is you don’t have stop there, at least you have something to work with instead of being paralyzed with an empty sequencer and no place to start. Rough drafts are all about belting out an idea as fast as possible, they’re not even at the demo level yet. You can obsess over it later. Get the idea out first.

    • @BK-iw1zm
      @BK-iw1zm 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@GVCarroll71Yeah, I get that. But, the title of the video is creating an EP in a day. That's not an EP. What he's making is just a bunch of rough sketches, not even considered to be a demo.

    • @HOLLASOUNDS
      @HOLLASOUNDS 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@GVCarroll71 I am aware what is shown is drafts or ideas however they way He speaks He is making it sound like these are finished ideas and aall that He will do next is a little editing. I have no problem comming up with ideas and or sketches but I don't use aa system to do it, and the only time My music sounds similar to something else I made is because I used a previous project as a template. I have used the same drums or midi or other elements cut straight out of previous productions, as I have saved everything over the year and basically now have an entire sound and midi library made by Me. I also use the same samples made by other people in multiple production's.

      Then he made an EP in 23 minutes, he had plenty of space to make several additions in the other 23 hours of the day. I don't make music like that, because I make it as a hobby and I try to reach higher feelings, doing a lot of polishing, but if my goal was the market, Spotify and things like that, I would make 1 EP a day too. 5 thousand songs are uploaded on platforms per day, and by the next two years musical AI should be close to perfection, think about the result of this...
