Reason 13 introduces a whole new Browser to make finding, auditioning, and creating sounds fast and getting you access to sounds you didn't even know you loved yet. In this walkthrough, Ryan will get you up to speed on the new Browser's workflow as well as the new features in Reason's sequencer. - เพลง
I must thank you for finally improving the workflow and the sequencer itself. I must admit that it was becoming a real drag for me in recent years since there were no improvements in this section. Hope that from now on you'll continue to give attention to this kind of stuff as much as for the upcoming new devices. One of the best updates so far..
It's a start but considering how far behind it still is in this respect I
don't think they've done enough sadly
@@jameschick3928 They never needed to do anything, and no other daw has never ever been able to replicate Reasons functionality, and they've had 20 years to try. Different doesnt mean behind.
Please tell me in what way the sequencer has been improved. I'd really like to know
Yeah its a great update! I hope they include the gain tool functionality in the SSL mixer in one of the minor updates too
@@jameschick3928 Users like the OP will happily pay $200
..I repeat $200 ..for a deficient "update" that provides just enough resources and motivation to Reason Studios who intentionally keep development at a sluggish pace.
Those users will turn around and say, "if you don't like it, use something else" to those who expect more.🤷🏾
And every year this saga continues.
From the comments, it seems everybody is impressed with this update except me. And $200 for an update in 2024 is WILD. Especially one with so few new features.
I'm not sure everyone is gonna love this new browser once they get there hands on it. Plus, I really, really hope they didn't get rid of the favorites section for devices because that's what it looks like to me.
"I really, really hope they didn't get rid of the favorites section for devices".
Unfortunately they are gone...
The favorite section is still there. It's just on the browser.
@@chocomalk Not for devices and no thumbnails so i have to remember every name/vendor of the plugin which is a huge step back to my workflow when you are used to search visually and not by the name of the plugin.
@@chocomalk It's on the browser? So there's 2 browsers now?
@@coldskoolbeatz THere is an active list on the side for devices and a loadable browser with all the favorite sections on the sidebar.
Reason 13 looks all really great, but the getting rid of the "Favorites Lists" in the Device Browser section is a workflow killer 😥, I loved that feature, it was so handy having your plugins in Favorites Lists containing all your most used (favorite) EQ's, Compressors, Distortion, Sautration, Tape, Channel Strips, etc. I WISH you guys would bring Favorites Lists back to the Device Browser section while still having the addition of the new browser for patches and audio files. Just my sad wish for Reason 13 😥
😮Oh no, I didn’t realize they moved it or got rid of it. No, no no.😢😢😢
If it doesn’t come back in a point update I’m going to eat my hat. It’s lucky that my hat is so deliciously tempting
@@bomubomuboi Maybe you should eat it anyway
That's really stupid I got too many plugins to start browsing each time..
Yes I agree
For me personally and I think for others too, the changes implemented are more akin to a downgrade to the workflow. You guys changed exactly the things that didn't need any change and failed to implement long overdue functionalities.
Totally agree
disagree on some, agree on others. The browser tagging is almost a decade overdue. the sequencer editing workflow is huge. Hated the separate pop-up window for midi adjustment. Sure, ill need to redo my favs, but this new way is much improved. Searching and preview seems much faster. What exactly is bad so far?
@@pnutbuttajellee1394 Just one example: I want to be able to edit some midi clips parameters without opening the piano roll. It's incredibly important for a quick workflow when arranging. Until now it could be done with the tool window you hate. Now what?
It has increased my workflow now that I have to do ten steps to get to all of my sample packs!!!!!
@@glennfrederick8521 😂
Good workflow changes here. Looking forward to rediscovering some old patches I’d forgotten.
LOVE U GUYS! R13 is a huge step forward! R+ user here.
All I needed was a bigger screen for editing audio clips and I got way more than that... Totally on board for this upgrade
The improved zoom is a GAMECHANGER! The browser is awesome too! Best update yet.
Huge! I have been learning other DAW in big part because of this being lacking. Overjoyed that reason has this now. I just added a large touchscreen for the rig so hoping it will work with that.
Unacceptable it took this long
Can we tag VST devices? VST patches? For example, I'd like all my EQ's to pick from rather than just the RE's that are assigned by someone else.
Great question
Not currently, this is important to me too
A snap to scale and highlight scale option in the MIDI editor would be great!
Yeah, I use that in Cubase all the time, snap to scale, and/or snap to chord.
it has matured enormously, congratulations, now the daw is beautiful and perfect, what a wonderful upgrade, now I put it as my main daw
Phew! A lot to get through in one video. I think a Reason 13 updated shortcut "cheatsheet" may be order 😊
I am back using reason. I have been getting some fantastic results. Reason forever.
I think this new way of ranging instruments and effects is what we really lacked in Reason Studio. Minor change but a very needed one.
Whoo, this is goofy. "What do we have for the sequencer update, people?" "We have tags, sir." "You mean for the browser that we touted as a major selling point just 2 versions ago?" "Yes." "Okay, what else?" "That's it." "That's it!?... Okay, listen up.. just take a handful of things that people are already perfectly comfortable with and change where they're located on onscreen and how they're accessed. I don't care which ones; just make them look different." "You got it, boss!"
Don’t forget the side chain utility 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 BIG news
↓4. Browser feels very RRP oriented. Until now it was very easy to drag and drop samples on the same track, one after the other. Now that workflow has become cumbersome.
Why, you don't like menu diving?
@@B1SCOOP Yeah, I don't wanna make a big SPLASH SCREEN out of it.
Agree
It’s horrible
Looks like a very solid update. Nice work!
Never thought I'd see you here. XD
Sometimes you don't know what you want to start looking for when starting a song and have a sound library of 10s of thousands of sounds. A random button would be cool to add amongst the tagging options.
↓2. Tool window has been removed only to take up way more screen space now
↓3.. Everything about sample edit mode was already neatly tucked in the upper toolbar, now it takes up more space
Agree
Exactly what i thought too.
No Scale features in the pianoroll, how could Reasonstudios miss on that highly requested point?
You got rid of the 'Favourites' bit? Why on earth would you do that and force me to use this new system. At this point I am only using Reason 13 for the step sequencer by a 3rd party.
Looking forward to the new workflow improvements. I am sure they will inspire!
The browser changes are great - so much cleaner and easier to use across all devices. I suspect some people with a lot of old muscle memory won't be too enamoured, but I think it's worth it.
I'll be honest Im pretty happy with the new browser, looks good.
I am too....I'm just curious how it will work with vsts
This is what Everyone was waiting for so questions & concerns could be answered...
Making music is fun again! Shoutout to Reason Studios!
I'm one of the biggest advocate for Reason going. Been a solid user since 2.5. I'm sad to say this is the first update I'm not going to purchase. Just feels like it should be an update to 12 rather than the next version.
The DAW workflow improvements look fantastic!
All this is nice but it did not warrant a paid upgrade. What have Reason Studios been doing these years?
Excited to try out the new workflow features . 👊🎶
PLEASE let us use the sequencer when using Reason as a plugin!
Edit: what would be especially cool, is if every instance of the reason plugin within a project was aware of the others and were all available within the sequencer (that is aware of and reflects the global song position of the DAW you are working in). Then, by default each instance of the plugin within a session would be in it's own "group" and assigned to one channel within the Reason plugin. This way, you could use Reason just like you would with Rewire in the old days. Furthermore, you could use modulation across the various Reason plugin instances within a project.
Just like FL Studio and NI Maschine... yes totally agree!
Disappointing that there are still no collapsible folders in the sequencer view
Same here, all highly requested features are simply ignored as always. Collapsing to folders also in the ssl, scale/key features in the pianoroll, thumbnails for custom combinators, vst cv out, vst players, own shortcuts, mseg, more advanced automation drawing abilities like synchronous has. Etc. But hey, you don’t need to press F8 anymore 🤡
I am an "in-the-box" jingle producer who uses the R+ system in its entirety; no third-party plugins. The Ripley effects plugin is of particular interest; it's clear you've carefully considered the needs of sound designers with its feature set. The sidechain and gain tools are also very welcome. Alongside your updated browser system and sequencer improvements, I suspect my workflow will be at least 20 percent faster. Knowing Reason listens to its dedicated users, I would like to see, in the future, a one-stop mastering plugin (meter / limiter / clipper / eq / saturator) and track stacking. However, I am perfectly happy with Reason+ as it is. Lastly, I've noticed you've said/shown nothing about the SSL mixer, which my favorite part of the DAW. Any surprises regarding this? Looking forward to the update :)
can you guys make a update on you VST host in reason,
make more like the combi 2 and give us a VST cv out support too
if possible
I guess this won’t ever happen
@@micromando4669 sad face.
well i Gussie i stay with bitwing till then
at least they don't need to have to use a VST host to use the vst natively.
and the new combi its cool at all bits in bitwing i really don't have any limits crap even waveform 12 who by the way its complete free now.
not only do they have a combi who has no limits
but if you want you can put multiple combis in 1 contra file a.k.a a combi in a combi
i love the new reason combi 2 and i love that my limits it's up to 34 buttons at best
and yes, i can use the mix channel as a form of a contemner a.k.a a combi inside a combi but shout be nice to have at least an export button
because option 2 it's just to open my two reason files and just copy past the mix channel with the EFX .
just given some advice to have a limit break
@@micromando4669 i take it back on waveform 12 , 13 there not really free
but still, they have less issues than reason
In a post I had somewhere else I mentioned this pop up browser looks more like a step backwards. I am getting a fork right now to go eat those words 😂. thank you guys for all the hard work! You guys just have unique way of implementing features that just make sense so I should’ve known it was going to be the same with the browser! Much love and peace to you all❤
It's still ass, gets in the way, wa a never like that
If they wanted to separate it, they could have easily done that
This new browser is a huge deal. It not only puts reason on par to the competitions in terms of content library but it also sets a few new standards in that field. I guess that some will somewhat understandably underestimate this change but it can be the base for much greater workflow concepts to come. That being said, there is still a shitton of homework to do usability wise but this is simply an all in all great update! Even Ryan looks more healthy in this video which im sure is because he had developed less grey hair from using that new browser.
I'm sold. After watching this, my workflow is going to be so much faster. can't wait until the 18th. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!! LOL
Still waiting to be able to sync the mute indicators between the mixer and the tracks, please make them sync.
I would like straightforfard groove and scale choices as ableton has
Really excited for this!
wow, just thought "I wonder what's going on with Reason lately" and this video is 16 mins old!
Looks good :)
I'm not even on the lie this makes it easier for a beginner to feel like reason studios is intuitive especially using it as a DAW. I think that I've bought the last four iterations of reason, but sometimes I would take large hiatuses because the workflow made it harder. But to see this is very refreshing. It seems like they are striking a good balance between old school reason feel to new school please make this easier vibes lol. I'm excited
Good job Reason Studios Team! Definitely considering upgrading. Thank you. ✨ 🌟 🙏🏽
I love you guys!!! These changes are awesome!!!
This is the update I've been waiting for! These workflow improvements are huge for us Reason-as-a-DAW users. Thank you guys for all of your hard work and attention to detail on this release guys!
This is what I'll pay for for sure when the upgrade is on sale. Been a long time coming, these new features in the workflow.
These are awesome. I'd love to see something like Bitwig Operators and MPE support and then we are golden.
The workflow updates are very welcome, but if you are an existing user and don't want or need another synth, delay unit or the utility devices then £200 is an excessive cost for the upgrade. It would be good if there was even very basic clip launcher / marker functionality so you can play different sections of a song on the fly to get spontaneous ideas for song layout before laying out your arrangement. This could so easily be achieved by the existing block functionality allowing different blocks to be triggered by keyboard shortcuts.
Thank you for making this video. I can't wait to start using Reason 13!
Definitely the best update in years!
This is a MASSIVE improvement! Thanks!
Is it possible to create our own unique tags? Like if I want to tag something with a tag that isn’t already there-like say, “Owl City-esque” or something 🤔
RYAN RULES!
Counting the minutes till it drops!
I'm ready to 'spark some new ideas'! Thank you Ryan!
Thanks Ryan. These are great additions, tagging is a gamechanger for me as I have a vast number of patches and Refills accumulated since I first began with Reason (in the v1 prehistoric era - been there since the very beginning). Being able to group tag a bunch of patches in a third party RE (like your Korg MonoPoly example) is incredibly helpful. I assume the same logic will work with Refills (I have over 200 of them!)?
why is your browser so fast??? my browser is super slow... how i can make him faster???
I really like the improved workflow. I'm looking forward to working with Reason 13 to the full very soon. I would have liked to have seen a separate rack and sequencer zoom as I personally would prefer a zoomed-in rack and a zoomed-out sequencer - but there you go - maybe in the future ;-)
When Reason 8 came out it was all about a faster workflow buy getting rid of the floating browser. I am interested in trying it out though. I just worry because I find Reason can get very cluttered with large projects, which is why track folders and track freeze is such a popular request.
Solid asf❤..can’t wait..I feel like I’ve had a daw that grew with my journey…reason since V7
Why make the browser a locked window that can't be moved to another monitor like the others? If there's a way to change this or have it back to the old style, I can't find it. Just give us the option to have it where it always was. This thing doesn't even merge with the left panel anymore. It's frustrating and unnecessary.
**Can you re-size the piano roll to full screen, or are you now limited to split screen view??**
Yup, you can resize it so it takes up the full sequencer viewer, or make it smaller. Up to you
@@deeplinkmusic How is it possible to manage the tracks in full height edit mode window ? You can't do that anymore, because the left side originally dedicated for tracks management is discarded...this is very bad UI/UX decision which ruins the workflow. In order to select the track, mute, solo, etc. you have to change the height of the edit window EVERYTIME to get the access to track management on the left side.
@@dusansynth I agree with you. If there are no keyboard shortcuts for solo/mute, this creates certain inconveniences.
@dusansynth Sure. Fortunately for me, I simply can't just jump up and down a track - as musical parts are in different places in the arrangement. So even with a full screen edit window, I would still have to (previously) exit to the arrangement view, find my bearings and then enter edit mode again.
Also personally, I seldom work with an instrument that is covering more than 3 octaves at a given time.
I really like the new browser. Had a blast testing it and I find myself making great sounding ideas without even having to reach for any VSTs.
Allow us to drag devices onto a favourites list and it’ll be damn near perfect…
Can’t wait for release day and then I can start working in it full time. I’m very happy Reason as a DAW is back in focus. Still my favourite, and I own em all (almost). ❤
It was actually easier in Reason 12 to get all my samples bc they are all in a sample folder that has over 150 different sample packs.. It would take a life time to add them all bc the entire folder will not save to my shortcuts. Before you could easily slide the sequencer bar over and they would be right there to access and hear with the play button! If I am missing something please let me know!
Ive been using reason for 14 years. I love reason for creating, the colors n design make it the funnest to look at out of all the daws. When it comes to editing tho and workflow it’s definitely behind. (Ableton being the example) I firmly believe if reason fixes this issue then it’ll be the top daw
Can you can choose your drive to install in Windows (re's and soundpacks included)
As it always automatically installs to c drive without option, and for whatever reason my c drive is really small compared to my d drive on my laptop.
Is there a way to preview samples and select the desired piece of audio wave? This is necessary for sound designers so that they can use the search in sound libraries containing long files with tons of sound variants. This is very well implemented in "soundly" - there you can select any piece of sample and immediately drag it to the DAW track as an audio file. In my opinion it is critically important, if we are talking about goodsounds browsing
That floating browser is a BIG no for me! And destroying the old browser by removing the option to make folder so you can arrange your favorite devices.
So no upgrade for me before they have fix this.
I understand your POV from an OCD perspective but logically speaking, you’re not looking for sounds or patches all the time. You look, you find, you pick, and after that it doesn’t need to take up any real estate on your screen any more. I might not be as versed in Studio One functionality as you are but I’m not sure their browser was the first thing that grabbed me.
@@titovalasques They have destroyed the browser so that when i want to find my favorite plugins/Re (i search visually and not by what the plugin is called).
But now they have destroyed the old browser, i have to scroll through ALL my fx/instruments instead of being able to click on a folder where i have organized my favorite instruments/FX that i use often like for example "Delay" "Compressor " "EQ" "Utility" "Glitch" and such.
@@titovalasques Why did you delete my comment @ReasonStudios ?
@@MarcSwing Is this directed at me or at Reason Studios?? 😳
@@titovalasques It was directed at Reason Studio, i answered you why i think they ruined the old browser but apparently they didn't like it and deleted my comment...🤷♂
instead of making music I used to waste hours making subfolders of patches. The tagging system is much much appreciated!
I do Bata testing and I have Reason 13, I must say this is a GREAT IMPROVEMENT!!!
Damn y'all snapped with this browser tho. My initial thought when opening this video was 'how much could they really improve the browser?', and now I'm heavily considering upgrading whenever I can afford it next.
Something important to note for people who edit vocals in Reason: 15:40. The Pitch Edit mode does not have vertical zoom anymore, so that waveform display bar is now small and unusable for fine-tuned vocal editing.
This is one of the additions I’m excited about. We’ve definitely needed tagging. In maschine, it makes my work flow much faster. Glad it’s in Reason now. Can you guys add a key or pitch recognition feature that will help us find the key of a one-shot, chord or clip? I look forward to the sidechain device overview. We’ve needed that for a while. Also, can knobs for left&right marker be added on Mimmic, so that we can control it from a midi controller?
As a good Windows user, I usually need to format my PC every 3/4 years due to random problems that break the boot or interface. Where are these new tags stored on the hard drive? If it's in the system's default folders, can't I put this information on a hard drive that doesn't have a direct connection to the system's hard drive? //
I don't know if it's possible, but having the piano row panel appearing on the side could also be a good deal, some work with ultra wide monitors, and it would be a smarter use of the function in these cases.
That bass isn't "fat", it's just big boned.
Hahahaha!
It's an ozempic bass
Why can’t I drag that new browser to a 2nd screen? Why is it locked in front of the rack? It’s clunky! Why can’t I detach the F9 browser?
Stoked for this! I know this isn't related but can we get a video for editing guitars in reason? Or does anyone have a video they can link? I'm curious how in depth audio editing can go in Reason. Cheers!
I'd really like the "add device" button in the rack to be bigger so its easier to click and for it to bring up the browser directly. The menu is pretty unhelpful since it doesn't show thumbnails, etc.
Agree
I like the browser..i will have mines fitting on the right side where the empty rack is at so it dont block the instruments & effects..because i have my rack only going vertical.
Very cool but a bit worried about the samples and fav list being disappeared from the side. I'm sure I'll get used to it but the muscle memory is kinda gone
its been along time. now I can use reason back now. like the new work flows
Looks pretty awesome ❤
Reason gang baby !!!!!
I’d like the mixer faders and pan knobs to be able to be displayed at the bottom half of the sequencer screen instead of the top of the screen as well if that’s a possibility in the future. Thx for working on the DAW workflow. I hope this will be a continued focus on every update as reason is still my favorite DAW to work in.
Is Tagging only good per install? Where does it store tagging information?
It would be nice if you could choose random location for weekly packs for Reason+! I had to stop downloading and had to delete pretty much everything because it filled a decent part of my system drive... 👀👀
can I test this with tracks' MIDI notes or do I need to play the instrument live as I go through a long list of patches?
WELL DONE! 👍🏻🔥😎
I wonder how many of the comments and likes were paid for by Reason Studios. I really don't understand why so many Reason users would be so excited about a new browser file directory system which isn't what I would call a workflow improvement. There are many workflow related features that Reason users have been requesting and the browser is definitely not one of them.
Yes huge focus on the browser which I guess is great if you love searching for and carefully labeling thousands of patches, and yes, loads of people will try and tear apart anything negative that is said, play semantics, claim it makes no sense, defend the company to no end, just know you can have your opinion and shout it out loud too, just have to ignore those that can't hack it.
The longer you spend in menus is less time spent creating music and sometimes the feeling is fleeting. I don’t want to spend 80 hours setting up each session, so I grab my pocket operator and get to work
As someone who hated working in reason for college, the update looks to be fixing some of my issues.byt there are still things I'd want changed. One such being the ability to pop out the piano roll into a floating window, like how FL Studio handles it. Another would be to color code rack cable plugs, into what can be compatible for using and what isn't. I've had too many times where I've tried to hook up cables, only for it to not do anything and now my cable is gone for routing.
Still, the sequencer and piano roll changes that have come are good for how I work, which is speed in playing notes. Now that I've got a midi keyboard, this should be a lot easier now.
@@Pippy_Pappy I remember seeing a comment on reason main channel that said
"i use to waste so much time organizing my patches into folders but now with this new tagging system I can just focus on making music" 💀💀
The browser is worse than it was before
I Can't drag My RE or Vsts to a favorites folder after the 13 upgrade. Please fix this. PLEASE!!
Whenever I see a "Randomize" option in any VST or Reason item, I want to click it to see what happens. Looking forward to trying this out next week!
That's quite promising, also lot of room for improvements, but at least there's a good basis to work from. Now deliver new Sequencer features quicker than once every few years !
Please add devices in the browser window again, so I can add shortcut lists for my specific device groups!
Reason come back typing when you write music 😅 Nice, always typing the name of device, instead of just drag and drop from my favorit folder. Applause!!!
Combinator 2 update please
To do what?
@@titovalasques siblings
@@titovalasques add stepped switches, crossfader, grouping buttons… just to name a few
Tell me there is now track folders.
If you prefer working with the full-screen edit mode, will there be options to set that as default? Currently, my workflow is to hit ctrl+e on a clip to open it in the edit mode, which I prefer to take up the whole screen. Will there be a way to keep this behavior?
Also, will the tool window on F8 still work the same? I prefer this over drop down menus within the already half screen edit mode, everything just seems too cramped for how I have been and prefer to use Reason.
If I have nothing nice to say I don’t say anything at all - since watching this video though I have been compelled to break that rule.
I’ve used Reason since version 2 so it actually makes me really sad to be negative about something I’ve stood by for such a long time.
I don’t really understand what Reason has come to in these last few updates - charging top dollar and labelling things as updates - that… let’s be honest should have been free changes just to get Reason back on a level playing field with other DAW’s.
I paid to upgrade to HD.
Now you want to charge long standing and loyal customers for (amongst other less than impressive things) updating the browser and adding a sideschain utility 😂
£199 aswell 😂😂😂😂 my god
Hey, I was wondering: how would this work for VST patches? Can they be tagged?
Is there a Ctrl/Cmd + P shortcut to add player to currently selected device? I don't think I've seen it?
The ReBirth of Reason! 👏
“Inspector” is that a new Reason term? Or a giveaway of where the feature inspiration came from 🤣. Good to see the tools migrated inline with workflow rather than floating window though. About time and a very welcome change. Thank you ❤”🎉
