  • Are humanities degrees useless? Or are they the golden ticket to an interesting and successful career?
Well that highly depends on who YOU are as a liberal arts graduate! Whether you're applying to college or an upcoming graduate in the Humanities, this is what I've learned about Humanities majors as a job market expert.

This video is so spot on and I am saving it to share with all of my future students.
It’s more about the person as an individual than what field they get a bachelors degree in. I was friends with a girl who was also a history major but she chose that major because she thought it would be easy. I majored in history because I am passionate about it. It is now 2 months after finishing our bachelors degrees and she works at a vape shop while I am about to start a fully funded PhD program that let me skip the masters and gave me a pretty cushy TA position. The key is to be creative, find your own niche, and most importantly have the confidence to pursue what you want.
If she was happy working in a vape shop then I would be thrilled for her because it’s really hard to find a job that is enjoyable. Unfortunately for her she is miserable.
No one should assume that a degree alone will get them a good job. It’s about what you do while getting that degree.

This is an empressively well done video for a small channel. Congratulations, I've liked and suscribed.
    Now onto the video itself.
Yes, og my god yes. This is the thing I've been constantly telling everyone for years. Humanities careers are, in my experience, even more competitive than STEM or law if you really want to 'succeed'. The job market is inundated by hundreds of thousands of graduates all vying for position which are both very limited, and more often than not already filled up.
Literature, history, philosophy, Arts, all of them require you to be the top of the top to achieve what you want. Young people decide to focus on these careers just because they 'like' literature. Most dont understand the high levels of self-discipline and drive you need to truly be someone in them.
I wholeheartedly support anyone who studies what they love regardless of difficulties. I just wish they gave themselves time to really learn about themselves before throwing thousands of dollars on a bet they aren't completely willing to follow through to the end.
