I've had one of those for years. It's still my go to tool for working around the house or my shop. Comfortable, heavy duty pliers and cutters, a good set of tools and I love the removable saw blade holder. I also love the spring loaded pliers, it's great with gloved hands. I've beat the crap out of it and it's held up fine.

I wish more companies used aluminum. It's one of the main reasons a Swiss army knife is so light and I love that. I hike a lot and I usually just want the lightest multitool possible

That multi-tool reminds me of my Ruger 10/22 trigger group housing part.

I have carried a Gerber Mp 800 for many years now and have replaced it numerous times through Gerber's lifetime Warren ty. I find it very useful and before my retirement, it was my EDC. I was a little disappointed though that you didn't mention the carbide inserts on the wire cutters. I was a machinist for most of my working career so the carbide inserts were more obtainable for me. With the weakness of being a bit fragile to breakage, I was still very much impressed.

Ouch is what you say for spending $138 on any multitool. I believe you are looking for the word ‘why’. I said why the hell would anyone spend $138 on a Gerber multi tool.

I used this one for a few years quite a long time ago. Liked it well enough but prefer the pliers that deploy by sliding out instead of unfolding. I was in construction back then and beat it up pretty well, broke a couple of the tools. I also wondered why they didn’t round the edges off more but found the larger frame more comfortable either way. All and all it wasn’t bad and broke less than some of the other ones I’ve carried. My knife blade didn’t have serrations so that wasn’t an issue. I’m trying to remember when I carried it, maybe like 20 years ago or better.

I used to have this tool. One of the reasons it may have not been widely copied is that the design may have been flawed. My tool catastrophically failed at the steel tab that held the pliers in place, (failed in a way that I have not had any other multitool by Gerber, LEatherman, or SOG fail) bad enough that it no longer functioned as pliers (I kept one half of the handles for some years as it was still useful) and I seem to remember other users at the time having similar issues.

    • @mikeborrelli193
      @mikeborrelli193 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Mine met the same fate.. The metal tab fractured and the pliers lost its functionality. Definitely a flawed design.

The reason billet aluminum and titanium aren’t used widely or much at all is cost. You could make a Wave+ or Charge+ out of full on milled aluminum and you’d be looking at 200-300 dollars minimum. Especially since Leatherman and Gerber would need to start up a whole new production line for it too with new machines and tooling.

Hi, I think the engineers behind this and other tools from big brands(corporations) always have better intentions when designing. But financial decision makers decide what the tool will look like for the market. Also I've been thinking that Victorinox, Gerber and SOG are way different from Leatherman. Because they don't rely only on multi-tool sales like Leatherman who offer only that. They have so many other products, not like Leatherman. That's my opinion! Cheers 👍

I had one for many years. About 18 months ago part of the hinge for the pliers snapped. I've been trying some of the cheaper ones out but none have ever felt right or do the right stuff for me. I may have to get myself another one.

So I carry this multi tool with the leatherman bit adapter, roxon bit kit(would like to get better quality bits for it) Milwaukee saw blades 49-22-1168, upgraded the cutters from one of your videos I do believe, the flat heads on it have all been the perfect size the little one has been the most useful and the one for the roxon set instantly got rid of that rim grit blade, knife blade will get sharp easily not one for combo blades but this ones “ehhh” the full size Phillip is great and saws an absolute banger once you put a better blade on think I have a Bosch 2 7/8s blade (modified) on it now handles have held up great and the scissors don’t cut as well as they used to but this has held up in an extremely dirty and wet environment if there are any things I can do to modify or add to to my set up for it let me know, warrantied it one time the pliers I used to try to twist a rivet out on a cold morning and they broke no push back on the process from the company, accompanied with Gerber dual force or diesel depending on the day.

Unfortunately, ive owned a range of gerber products. Some purched, so gifts, ranging from a 15$ knife, gerber dime, nxt, dualforce, up to their $200+ premium folders, fixed blade knives, and a hatchet. every single gerber product ive owned has failed catastrophically or broken on me during normal use. Not abusing the tool, not using it for an uninted purpose, just normal daily expected use the tool was designed for. I dont hate gerber. They have their place as a cheap entry-level option for those who can't afford or aren't comfortable buying leatherman or other premium alternatives...but personally, I'm done giving them money. Tired of catastrophic failures at critical moments i was depending on that tool. As far as leatherman goes, i have two, and carry one daily, as well as a SOG powerpint i replaced my 4th gerber dime with and tools fell off, chipped, or otherwise fell apart and gerber refused to honor their warranty, and my leatherman and powerpint are trucking along, zero issues, after over 2 years of hard use.

Ha, I got one of these on ebay with a broken blade tip, and the black inserts were already ripped out and it was just glue left in the voids, I used zippo fluid to clean the glue and I turned the blade into a rounded tip.
Paid like 20 bucks for it

Hey man, love your vids. I was wondering what you would recommend for a multitool preferably $150 and under for (fishing, mechanical work etc). I got the GOAT tool just 2 days ago and multiple things came loose and won’t function properly just working on a Stihl trimmer. Mailing that junk thing back tomorrow. With so many to choose from I would appreciate your opinion and recommendation. Thank you🤙🏻

Roxon Flex. Got mine and I love it. You can choose the tools so you make sure you have all the tools you'll actually need. There's going to be more implements coming soon and will be more in the future. Hopefully different tool bodies to attach them to as well.

@@maxlvledc I thought about it and saw how much you praised it, what puts me off is Victorinox blades don’t hold an edge well, no replaceable wire cutters and the bit driver you have to buy separately. Other than that it seems like a great tool. What’s your experience with what I listed above?

I own this one for 20 years. the tools are not impressive, the knife is not sharp, the flat heads are too stubby to be useful and the sceisors springs broke quickly, the file as well. but! it's a very good set of pliers :) so i ended up using it just as a foldable pliers, the other tools there are better replaced by a SAK

MP800 was upgrade for the MP700 & the prototype knife and scissors. I have both of them the MP700 is a light weight compared to the MP800. I liked MP800 until the MP1, Center Drive, Dual Force and even the MP600/MP400. I still think it is a great multi tool but the knife is a horrible design. The replacement saw blade are a jigsaw blade cut down. The rubber inserts on both will fall off with use and you can not replacements.
