George giggling uncontrollably is so contagious! I'm sure Tom Cruise enjoys doing his action stunts and the money it brings, but man if only he did more roles like this.
He actually only agreed to act in this movie if they let him put a fat suit on and just be funny. He wanted it to be far from the action movies he's used to.
Friendly reminder, RDJ was nominated Best Supporting Actor for this. He was AMAZING. And considering that this was the same year Iron Man came out, 2008 was definitely his big comeback year. And we are forever grateful for it. ❤️

So two things: 1) In the theater, there was absolutely no break between the actual trailers and the fake ones. It went straight from some Jason Bourne type trailer to "I LOVE THA PUSSY!!!!" and it was the most awkward, uncomfortable silence I've ever experienced in a theater, until everyone finally got what the hell was happening. It was glorious. 😂 2) You HAVE to watch ¡Three Amigos! after this. It's a very similar plot, if you mixed it with The Seven Samurai. So freaking funny.
I was visiting a friend of mine in Vegas and we decided to go see this one in theaters. I ended up looking at my friend (before the Scorcher trailer played) and said "You got some weird fuckin' concessions out here", lol. A funny thing is, a year or so later, a friend of mine actually brought in a can of Booty Sweat for me. Apparently they made a limited run. I didn't drink it though, just put it on the shelf until one day the can was damaged and leaking, so I just threw it out.
I still recall the confusion with those. Just sitting there wondering if these ads were real or what was going on. I think the second or third one solidified they were a joke.
Omg, there was an older lady next to me who was *dying* throughout the movie. And we both were busting up when we realized, simultaneously, that the trailers weren't real.
It doesn't seem like that can ever be replicated. I remember when the advertisement announcement voice said, "crack an ass open!" some guy in my theater said, "wow, they're cursing in advertisements now."
When I saw this in cinema I didn't actually recognise Tom Cruise until his name appeared in the credits. My whole torso was already sore from laughing, and so that realisation almost killed me.
For me it was when he started dancing. Actually I didn’t realize it until the person sitting next to me muttered “is that Tom Cruise?!” when he turned the music on the second time. Which made the movie even better.
In a way its a shame that he has to keep up the whole PG-13 movie star thing. He could be an awesome character actor or comedic actor in smaller movies and put in some great performances as a villain.

Comedies really demonstrate why having at least two people is such a good format for reactions. It's hard to control the laughter when the person next to you is cracking up.
It also helps to distract from any shortcomings they might have. for example, i've always found the comedy stylings of Ben Stiller and Jack Black to get a bit repetitive/stale sometimes, but having all of them play off each other, this movie was the perfect amount of each.

If RDJ had won the Oscar for this movie for sure this would have been the greatest comeback in movie history. Imagine winning an Oscar and kicking off the MCU in the same year with Iron Man. As it is it's probably the greatest comeback anyways even without the Oscar.
I don't think I've laughed at any film in the theater as hard as I laughed at Tropic Thunder - they even had the volume turned up so you could still hear it over the constant laughter from the audience.
This movie is gonna go down in history as a timeless masterpiece of comedy. Especially when you consider this was one of the last great comedies before Hollywood entered the "political correctness" dystopia we have now. Tropic Thunder would NEVER be made by today's Hollywood, which is part of what makes it great.
The blackface is probably why it hasnt come back. not that i agree. they removed always sunny episodes from hulu for the same reason. i wish people knew satire when they see it but idk people are very sensitive about it now

The film industry in general - not just hollywood - has lost a lot of what it once was. The density of top quality movie productions in a 30+/- years time span is remarkable to say the least. A multidude of reasons is responsible for the decline. It'd actually be a subject worthy to explore deeper. Very deep.
"I don't read the script. The script reads me." That was my favorite line. The DVD commentary line -- you have to hear Downey do commentary for this movie. It's hilarious.
I will contend that this is a top 10 comedy of all time. The jokes, the cameos, the social commentary; all of it is on point. When he yeets that child off the bridge, I laugh out loud EVERY time.
"Never go full retard" is absolutely a thing in Hollywood, although I doubt it was ever said like that. Some reviewers had their mind blown by how accurate that was. This movie is a masterpiece for that scene alone.
Just seeing the reaction to the Bridge scene just made my day. Also I'm glad you kept the A Panda/Amanda part in with Matthew McConaughey, one of my favourite lines which usually gets cut in other reactions.
The thing about the fake trailers at the beginning, is that they perfectly synced right in with the actual trailers when this movie was in theaters. It took a few minutes to figure out that the movie had started, because my buddy and I were confused af when these goofy previews played

But apparently Tom had a recent run in with Harvey Weinstein (in 2007ish) while getting kicked out of Paramount pictures, and Tom used the role to stab him back; according to people who worked with Harvey, Cruise's impression of him is eerily accurate.

Thanks for keeping in so many good jokes and lines that some others tend to edit out. Especially the “You talking to me this whole time?” And “we only have 16 hours before they wake up” such simple throwaway lines but those are two of my favorites for some reason.

I love the little acting touches he throws in, too. Like right before he delivers his "never go full retard" speech, he lets out this big heavy sigh, like he's thinking, "Do I actually have to explain this? How does this guy work in Hollywood and not know this yet?" This could've been a one-joke role, but Downey throws so much into it that he practically steals the whole movie.
I remember my son watched this the day it was released. I hadn’t heard of it yet. He would NOT shut up about it. So I took both my daughters with me to watch it the next day. This is one of the best comedies I’ve ever seen. RDJ should have won the academy award for his role. He was nominated but he should have won. He was amazing, as were all of the main actors. 🔥
I mean, that was a damn tough year to be competing for supporting actor. I think most people, no matter how good RDJ was, would lean toward the posthumous win for Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight being the right call. But there’s no doubt they were both iconic performances that defined their respective movies, each of which are still talked about today.

All these years I never realized that Stiller wrote this with Justin Theroux and Ethan Cohen from the Coen Brothers! There's a notch on those guys' belts I never even knew existed!
I'm pretty sure Les Grossman was based on Joel Silver or some other mega-producer that Cruise had worked with in the past, who had big hairy hands, and that's where the idea came from.

Actually the character is an extremely thinly veiled portrayal of a different producer: Joel Silver, to this day maybe the greatest producer of action movies ever but by all accounts one of the most unpleasant people in the film (on any other) industry who is infamous in the industry for his screaming fits and highly coloured verbal abuse.
The parodies in this movie are HILARIOUS!! Didn't recognize Tom Cruise until I read the credits, so I rewound the tape. Tom in a "fat suit" and hip hop dancing was so good and so funny. His persona and dance moves were spot on. A truly funny movie by Ben Stiller. ... PEACE.
I used to make references to this movie all the time, and my dad never understood them. One day I made him watch it, and he had almost the same reaction you 2 just did. It was hysterical laughter the whole time.
I've seen countless times. Both movie & the reactions, but the name "Tropic Thunder" already makes me giggles like little girl every time I hear it. That's how epic this was. Classic Comedy.
It was SO much fun watching you guys watch this. I saw it in the theater (where the fake ad and trailers came after the REAL ads & trailers and instantly messed with the audience). I also own this film on BluRay, but the version you watched had scenes I had never seen before. Now I'm on a quest to find the extended cut of the movie that could NEVER be made today! 😁
One of the funniest films I've ever seen. The premise is fantastic, the performances are brilliant, and the script is stupidly funny. I saw this in the cinema on release and loved it so much I went back and took a girl on a date there, partly so I could see it again, partly to show her a great film. She didn't get it. 14 years later we're still together and I'm still not entirely sure how...
Another great movie: "The Last of the Mohicans" a beautiful historical drama set during the 7 years wars between France and the UK in the americas. The score was sublime. Should have won an oscar for that!
When Ben Stiller approached Tom Cruise about playing the part of Les, Cruise said he loved the idea and found the script hilarious. He said he had only one request and that was he wanted to dance and he wanted fat hands. I'm not sure he has ever said the reason for that but I just love his character in this because it's so different from his usual roles.

You know it’s gonna be a good day when you see that George and Simone are reacting to another comedy And what a comedy! I don’t know if Tropic Thunder has been topped in the years since it came out. It was so successful a satire that I think everyone else gave up! As for Les Grossman, he was almost entirely Cruise’s creation. Ben Stiller had shown him the script to get his general opinion, and Cruise said that they needed an extra element in there, a studio exec to act as a motivational element and an extra layer of tension. He then went on to outline his entire character, down to the fat hands and the hiphop moves, and even insisted that he not be included in the pre-release publicity, so as not to spoil the surprise. Doubly commendable, in a movie about Hollywood excess and actor self-absorption! Oh, and yeah, Downey Jr. is right - if you want that Oscar, you never go full r****d! I love that in the pics of he other Oscar nominees when Tug wins, you see Tom Hanks playing a wheelchair-bound athlete and Sean Penn is playing a blind guy!

Simone brought the Tropic thunder for sure. Her uncontrollable laugh is so EPIC. George laughing his head off with all the Chinese references, the panda, Kangaroo jack qip, and halfsquat getting bridge tossed. I myself can't stop laughing. This reaction was a laugh a minute from both the movie and Cinebinge. Y'all took this movie experience to a new level. THanks for making my day.

Another Ben Stiller movie with a very different pace that I really like and that surprised me a lot is "The secret life of Walter Mitty" (2013). May be worth a look :-)

RDJ and Brandon Jackson's scenes give me life because the frustration Brandon's character feels is so real. It's so aggravating seeing people pretend and I can't stop laughing when he's like wtf are doing???
It's really frustrating when people come at this movie for depicting blackface, when satire of that very thing is the entire point.

Thanks for keeping in so many good jokes and lines that some others tend to edit out. Especially the “You talking to me this whole time?” And “we only have 16 hours before they wake up” such simple throwaway lines but those are two of my favorites for some reason.

This movie is so dang good. RDJ's character and performance are just... top notch. He's so good.
I love the little acting touches he throws in, too. Like right before he delivers his "never go full retard" speech, he lets out this big heavy sigh, like he's thinking, "Do I actually have to explain this? How does this guy work in Hollywood and not know this yet?" This could've been a one-joke role, but Downey throws so much into it that he practically steals the whole movie.

I remember my son watched this the day it was released. I hadn’t heard of it yet. He would NOT shut up about it. So I took both my daughters with me to watch it the next day. This is one of the best comedies I’ve ever seen. RDJ should have won the academy award for his role. He was nominated but he should have won. He was amazing, as were all of the main actors. 🔥
I mean, that was a damn tough year to be competing for supporting actor. I think most people, no matter how good RDJ was, would lean toward the posthumous win for Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight being the right call. But there’s no doubt they were both iconic performances that defined their respective movies, each of which are still talked about today.

Reggie Lee, the actor that played the Flaming Dragon dude with the hilarious facial expressions while on the phone with Les Grossman was also super funny in the TV show Grimm. Great comedic timing.

For some reason, the one thing that cracks me up most in this movie is the "Simple Jack chasing a butterfly with a hammer" bit.
Brandon T. Jackson playing off RDJ was probably my favorite parts of this film.
All these years I never realized that Stiller wrote this with Justin Theroux and Ethan Cohen from the Coen Brothers! There's a notch on those guys' belts I never even knew existed!

Tom Cruise is hilarious in this movie. Him and RDJ are the best. Glad you guys found it hilarious too. I saw it in theaters back in 2008.

I have never seen George laugh so hard and so long, I was looking forward to his reaction the bridge scene, and man was I not disappointed.
The huge hairy hands were Tom Cruise's idea, by the way. They talk about it in the commentary.
I'm pretty sure Les Grossman was based on Joel Silver or some other mega-producer that Cruise had worked with in the past, who had big hairy hands, and that's where the idea came from.

Actually the character is an extremely thinly veiled portrayal of a different producer: Joel Silver, to this day maybe the greatest producer of action movies ever but by all accounts one of the most unpleasant people in the film (on any other) industry who is infamous in the industry for his screaming fits and highly coloured verbal abuse.
The parodies in this movie are HILARIOUS!! Didn't recognize Tom Cruise until I read the credits, so I rewound the tape. Tom in a "fat suit" and hip hop dancing was so good and so funny. His persona and dance moves were spot on. A truly funny movie by Ben Stiller. ... PEACE.
I used to make references to this movie all the time, and my dad never understood them. One day I made him watch it, and he had almost the same reaction you 2 just did. It was hysterical laughter the whole time.

One of the funniest films I've ever seen. The premise is fantastic, the performances are brilliant, and the script is stupidly funny. I saw this in the cinema on release and loved it so much I went back and took a girl on a date there, partly so I could see it again, partly to show her a great film. She didn't get it. 14 years later we're still together and I'm still not entirely sure how...

When Ben Stiller approached Tom Cruise about playing the part of Les, Cruise said he loved the idea and found the script hilarious. He said he had only one request and that was he wanted to dance and he wanted fat hands. I'm not sure he has ever said the reason for that but I just love his character in this because it's so different from his usual roles.

You know it’s gonna be a good day when you see that George and Simone are reacting to another comedy And what a comedy! I don’t know if Tropic Thunder has been topped in the years since it came out. It was so successful a satire that I think everyone else gave up!
As for Les Grossman, he was almost entirely Cruise’s creation. Ben Stiller had shown him the script to get his general opinion, and Cruise said that they needed an extra element in there, a studio exec to act as a motivational element and an extra layer of tension. He then went on to outline his entire character, down to the fat hands and the hiphop moves, and even insisted that he not be included in the pre-release publicity, so as not to spoil the surprise. Doubly commendable, in a movie about Hollywood excess and actor self-absorption!
Oh, and yeah, Downey Jr. is right - if you want that Oscar, you never go full r****d! I love that in the pics of he other Oscar nominees when Tug wins, you see Tom Hanks playing a wheelchair-bound athlete and Sean Penn is playing a blind guy!

George laughing his head off with all the Chinese references, the panda, Kangaroo jack qip, and halfsquat getting bridge tossed. I myself can't stop laughing. This reaction was a laugh a minute from both the movie and Cinebinge. Y'all took this movie experience to a new level. THanks for making my day.

Another Ben Stiller movie with a very different pace that I really like and that surprised me a lot is "The secret life of Walter Mitty" (2013). May be worth a look :-)
