18:03 - Linda Fiorentino does indeed have a sultry voice. She deserved better recognition, especially for her lead role in the brilliant but underrated thriller 'The Last Seduction'. That's a film worth reacting to.
I always thought it was a shame that she wasn't in any of the sequels, because I loved that character. Fiorentino had a reputation at the time for being "difficult to work with", which I took at face value, but now I wonder if that was code for "Wouldn't sleep with Harvey Weinstein".
This movie and dogma led to me having a huge crush on her for most of my teenage years, despite the fact that she's (as I just found out when I looked her up on IMDb again) 25 years older than me.
@@Johnny_Socko Kevin Smith is a very laid back dude with reputation for being a director actors like working with but by the end of filming Dogma with her, even he wished he'd cast Janeane Garofalo in the lead role instead.
When that movie came out, I saw an interview with a former government "spook" type about the surveillance technology portrayed in the movie. He said what the movie showed is two to three generations behind what the government currently has.
I remember when the X-Files referenced this movie. Mulder was in a hearing, and they asked him if his story wasn’t something he saw in Men in Black. He paused and said, “I never saw Men in Black”. And the inquest replied: “Too bad. It was a damn good movie”. I AGREE! This is definitely one of my favorite movies. 🔥

Rip Torn (RIP) was a terrific actor, and he was really funny as well. One of the movies you may have seen him in was "Dodgeball," but he's a very long time character actor.
Vincent D'onofrio did a FANTASTIC job as Edgar/Cockroach Alien. The way he acted the part makes you think that he really thought about how his movements must have felt really uncomfortable and unnatural as an alien, walking in the skin of a man. He is the standout actor in this movie, by far.
the men in black score is done by danny elfman. the composer who works with tim burton, so it has a vey similar feel to a lot of 80s horror-ish movies. beetlejuice, batman, edward scissor hands, nightmare before christmas, darkman, tales from the crypt... interestingly he also composes for doctor strange in the multiverse of madness, since sam raimi also worked with elfman in the past.
10:49 "But why- why the big _secret?_ People are _smart._ The can _handle_ it." "The _person_ is smart. _People_ are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you _know_ it." Sterling words of wisdom I did _not expect_ when I saw the _trailers_ for this movie.
This first movie was gold. The sequels are just ok. Some laughs but never close to the first. Will Smith in his prime was hysterical in a natural way. Instant classic.
D'Onofrio deserved an Oscar just for his body-horror/comedy. Whist sure the makeup and sfx played a role, a lot of that was just him. You want to talk about underrated actors?
A great early Tommy Lee Jones performance is in Coal Miner’s Daughter, where he plays Doolittle Lynn, Loretta Lynn’s husband. Both he and Sissy Spacek are fantastic.
Interesting trivia: The Men in Black theme sampled from and/or remixed (depends on which website you check) the 1982 song Forget Me Nots by Patrice Rushen. Also interesting--Vincent D'Onofrio was the hunky mechanic in Adventures in Babysitting (the one Sara thought was Thor).
They were very careful to comply with animal safety laws making the film. Each roach and bug was carefully accounted for after each shoot. The bug guts at the end from J's shoe was a mustard packet
"The only thing that pulls its own weight around here is my goddamn truck!" Funniest sci-fi joke sequence ever. I don't know if I could have counted the number of times I rewind/repeated this on the old VCR when we repeat-binged this movie as a family. Eggar and K were the best parts of this movie.
Vincent D'Onofrio has been in SO MANY films. Definitely one of my favorite actors. Also if you’re considering watching the sequels, just watch the next 2 films. Granted, the 2nd film isn’t that good, but the 3rd more than makes up for it.

This was such a fun film and great reaction, as always. George mentioned Linda Fiorentino's sultry voice, if you want to see her REALLY get sultry, you should watch her in the film 'The Last Seduction'. A great noir film that's VERY sultry. Probably the second sexiest modern noir film after 'Body Heat'. The same director also did a film called 'Red Rock West' with Nicolas Cage and Dennis Hopper that's great.

Rip Torn( who played Zed) name was Elmore Torn jr., the nick name Rip is a family nickname. He's from Texas. While in my first year of college(1967) I saw that this movie, Beach Red, was playing with a person in the cast named Rip Torn. I saw the movie just see who this guy was. He was a very good character actor, died in 2019. He was also in another movie you might find interesting, The Man Who Fell to Earth. Also staring David Bowie.
If you want another good Tommy Lee Jones movie I'd recommend Space Cowboys. It's got a full cast of classic actors such as Clint Eastwood, James Garner and Donald Sutherland. Also you gotta eventually watch the second MiB. I enjoyed it just as much as the first but that's where the series kinda starts to go downhill in my opinion.

One of the things I love about J in hindsight is how much he subverts expectations of the typical Will Smith character. What does he say to K when he joins up? Recognise him for his skill, and don't patronize him. They play it off like a gag, but J, asides from his issues with authority (mostly from working with fat slobs with shitty attitudes like the ones we see) is basically a supercop - he's in peak physical condition, thinks outside the box and shows hints of a photographic or at least exceptionally good memory. Had he never stumbled upon the MIB, he might never have reached his full potential, but he was practically born to do the job.
When K shoots Jeeves head, he instantly reacts, pulling a gun on someone who very clearly outranks him (He showed up, took care of all his issues with his boss, and takes him to work on a case outside of his precinct, while wearing a suit. Most likely he thinks hes CIA or FBI). On him to drop the gun before Jeeves body even hits the ground.
@@Eidlones I mean he did just witness a man blow another guy's head off without any indication of who this supposed person is. Blowing a guy's head off in cold blood is still a crime, whoever is doing it, and J is still a cop. He has no reason not to at that point.

Late to the party but: Yes the "original spaceships" are indeed a structure from the world's fair of the time that took place in Flushing Meadows Park they were actually supposed to be a concept of how apartments in the future would look. What do mean by "bs of the last few years?"
@@erikjohnson3859 2024 is an election year. What are the odds that another one of those immigrant caravan starts making its way towards the United States around August or September?
18:03 - Linda Fiorentino does indeed have a sultry voice. She deserved better recognition, especially for her lead role in the brilliant but underrated thriller 'The Last Seduction'. That's a film worth reacting to.
I always thought it was a shame that she wasn't in any of the sequels, because I loved that character. Fiorentino had a reputation at the time for being "difficult to work with", which I took at face value, but now I wonder if that was code for "Wouldn't sleep with Harvey Weinstein".
Gotta see her in Gotcha! with Anthony Edwards (Top Gun's Goose).... unless you're still a weirgin 😀
This movie and dogma led to me having a huge crush on her for most of my teenage years, despite the fact that she's (as I just found out when I looked her up on IMDb again) 25 years older than me.
@@dougallen9689 Dogma! Now there's a film to react to
@@Johnny_Socko Kevin Smith is a very laid back dude with reputation for being a director actors like working with but by the end of filming Dogma with her, even he wished he'd cast Janeane Garofalo in the lead role instead.
"Enemy of the State" (1998) is one of Will Smith's best movies. Gets to star in a movie with the legendary Gene Hackman.
When that movie came out, I saw an interview with a former government "spook" type about the surveillance technology portrayed in the movie. He said what the movie showed is two to three generations behind what the government currently has.
Highly underrated movie.
Fun little prop fact, when Will was stepping on the roaches he was actually stepping on mustard packets.
'Men In Black' premiered at a theater near you 27 years ago today, July 2, 1997
2 things I loved about this movie were 1) "We're not hosting an intergalactic kegger here." and Vincent D'Onofrio's performance was excellent.
The title font is the same used for "The Addams Family" and "Addams Family Values," because it was the same directing team that made them.
I'd like they reacted too to the first X-Files film (in case they haven't seen it)... They would love trying to figure out what's going on in all that universe.
It was also referenced by Doggett in season 9 episode Jump the Shark.
@@peterlenham3180
Ah yes… “Jump the shark”. I wonder how many people younger than 40 even understand that reference. It’s a reference to the “Happy Days” episode where the Fonz jumped a shark on his motorcycle. It is credited with ruining the show. Hence anything that ruins a TV show is called ‘jumping the shark’. 👍
Rip Torn (RIP) was a terrific actor, and he was really funny as well. One of the movies you may have seen him in was "Dodgeball," but he's a very long time character actor.
The Beastmaster
The worms in the break room are speaking Huttese, the same language at the Hutts from Starwars
*Aliens:* Say "sorry" once.
*George:* "Oh god they're Canadian!"
"MIB: Deliver the galaxy or earth will be destroyed...buddy."
@johnnythewalrus "Aliens, we are not your buddy, fwiend"
Vincent D'onofrio did a FANTASTIC job as Edgar/Cockroach Alien. The way he acted the part makes you think that he really thought about how his movements must have felt really uncomfortable and unnatural as an alien, walking in the skin of a man. He is the standout actor in this movie, by far.
The guy that played Edgar, the bug, was also Gomer Pyle in Full Metal Jacket.
he's also in law and order CI
Dont forget Kingpin
the men in black score is done by danny elfman. the composer who works with tim burton, so it has a vey similar feel to a lot of 80s horror-ish movies. beetlejuice, batman, edward scissor hands, nightmare before christmas, darkman, tales from the crypt...
interestingly he also composes for doctor strange in the multiverse of madness, since sam raimi also worked with elfman in the past.
10:49 "But why- why the big _secret?_ People are _smart._ The can _handle_ it."
"The _person_ is smart. _People_ are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you _know_ it."
Sterling words of wisdom I did _not expect_ when I saw the _trailers_ for this movie.
Fun fact, the alien guy at the beginning of this movie that Will Smith was chasing is actually my friends uncle.
Oh nice
He is my butcher's father's brother
"If you're strong enough" Tommy Lee Jones saying that line, gets me every time. It keeps me going when things are bad.
The dying alien in the cockpit of the mansuit was not CGI! It was an actual moving model. It's why it looks so good even today.
Good practical effects are timeless
The reason K gave J the small and seemingly weak Noisy Cricket was to reinforce that idea to not judge things based on appearances.
14:37 Holy crap it's one of the termians from Galaxy Quest!
A great early Tommy Lee Jones performance is in Coal Miner’s Daughter, where he plays Doolittle Lynn, Loretta Lynn’s husband. Both he and Sissy Spacek are fantastic.
When Rip Torn died someone pointed out to me that he might be the only person whose surname is the result of the action that is his first name.
District 9 would be a great movie for you guys. Especially George might appreciate how original and creative this sci-fi is.
I also liked that movie. Too much for them
@@jasonm8017Mean
One scene that never fails to make me laugh is "Edgar"(now the Bug)hitting the wrong way on the screen door, grunting and then opening it.
I used to love Vincent D'Onofrio on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. It was the perfect role fo him.
Just wanna say that Simone's voice and laugh is the most adorable thing. I would spend 5 hours listen to an ASMR video if you did one hahaha
When I was 10 yrs old watched this movie with my dad, he then said: "maybe aliens are real. We just couldn't meet them yet".
They were very careful to comply with animal safety laws making the film. Each roach and bug was carefully accounted for after each shoot. The bug guts at the end from J's shoe was a mustard packet
Yall need to watch the other two movies and put them on you tube asap. Love your channel. Keep up the good work
The guy who Will Smith was chasing at the beginning is none other that Ray Park, aka Darth Maul.
"The only thing that pulls its own weight around here is my goddamn truck!"
Funniest sci-fi joke sequence ever.
Almost never the first role, but always amazing
That twist at the end really put the trilogy into perspective.
He was awesome on Law & Order C.I
Yeah, I love 3
That’s the same font they used for the opening credits on the Addams family movie.
Fun Fact: Edgar's skin suit slowly decomposes throughout the movie!
For Simone asking if that's a real structure, that's the site of the Unisphere and the ships were the New York State Pavilion featured in the 1964 World's Fair. It's located in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York (NYC)
Oh this movie is a lot of fun. And the amazing practical effects work done by the legendary Rick Baker is just awesome. Many to most of the aliens seen in this movie are done without CGI.
18:42 'Orion's belt' is not an asteroid belt, it is part of the constellation Orion. The belt is a set of three stars that seem, when seen from Earth, to be close to each other.
Each test has a motive.
1. When he asked why they were there. Curiosity
2. The written test with no easy way to write. Adaptation
3. The gun range. Objective thinking in stressful situations.
I love this movie so much. It's one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. I loved it ever since I was a kid. MIB is a masterpiece.
Rewatching this, this movie really was amazing. They don’t make movies like this anymore
@@paulrogers4483 I liked 3 quite a bit honestly but parts of it felt like they lacked the feeling the first two gave me. I saw the first two in theaters though so that could be a major contributor to my thoughts.
Agree excellent movie full of outstanding performances by an outstanding cast.
Firebirds! One of my Fav's
Space Cowboys, yes! A great movie, and a favorite.
Or Double Jeopardy if ya liked Fugitive
BTW, the 1968 migration k was talking about was woodstock.
I saw this when I was a kid in the theater, first run, and it was incredible on the big screen. The 90s was a great time to be a kid. Definitely go experience it on the big screen if there’s ever an opportunity.
What not many people don't know Edgar played by Vincent D'Onofrio, was also Private Pyle in the hit movie, Full Metal Jacket. A very good actor.
"Hire a decorator to come in here quick cuz, damn." Is the best line of the movie or at least tied with Bleeleck and Bob.
Movies to see based on the actors in this movie:
Hitch - Will Smith
U.S. Marshals - Tommy Lee Jones (I've suggested this to you guys before)
The Cell - Vincent D'Onofrio
Dogma - Linda Fiorentino
Dodgeball - Rip Torn
The soundtrack to this Men in Black movie is fucking remarkable, I legitimately can't play it while I'm driving because I gain a lead foot. 🤣
19:42 The "weird keyboard" K is using (and is at all the desks in MiB headquarters) is a Kinesis Advantage, an ergonomic keyboard that separates the usual QWERTY layout (or Dvorak if you prefer) into two bowl-shaped handwells with some thumb keys in between. I'm literally using one to type this and it's the most comfortable keyboard I've ever owned.
They're super expensive too so I can only imagine how much that part of the set alone cost the studio.
The joke about the red button has become a bit of a running gag with Tommy Lee Jones. It was used in Captain America
Huh ironoc sonce there was a captain america reference in this film.
"Neither actor has had any controversies". I'm guessing this was pre-Oscars... It's kinda hard to believe that the Bug is also Gomer Pyle (Leonard Lawrence) from Full Metal Jacket!
@@radicaladz I know. My point was that he reacts correctly, instantly, without any thought of "this is a superior"
@@Eidlones For sure.
1:49 Yes and no on being a Marvel Comic. The original run was only 6 issues. 3 in 1990 and 3 in 1991. It was publish by a company called Aircel Comics, which was bought by a company called Malibu Comics, which was eventually bought by Marvel Comics.
Michael Jackson was approached for a cameo in the "everyone on those screens is an alien" scene but didn't realise it was a joke so took offence by it. When he saw the movie he realised it was a comedy and they weren't being serious so he asked to cameo if they did a sequel
I haven't seen this since I was a kid and never realized Edgar was played by Vincent D'Onofrio. Crazy.
Excellent reaction as always, I keep on underestimating just how good a movie this is. Definitely recommend 2 and 3 - MiB 2 has some issues but is still plenty fun, and 3 is highly underrated. Last year's MiB International don't bother with.
(At 27:24) I'm seeing more insect traits than roaches on this thing.
The traits I see are:
The body of a cockroach
The mandibles of a mantis
The legs of a grasshopper
And the barb of a hornet
I love all the MiB Movies, even the new ones. They are just so much fun. Thanks for watching them. Yes, you hire Tommy Lee Jones to be Tommy Lee Jones. It is rare to see him not being that character in every movie he is in, and it's a cool character.
Late to the party but: Yes the "original spaceships" are indeed a structure from the world's fair of the time that took place in Flushing Meadows Park they were actually supposed to be a concept of how apartments in the future would look. Think: The Jetsons. The interesting bit is that those structures are STILL THERE, they're a mild attraction for Flushing Meadows. But I grew up in queens so I'd seen those on drives to and from places ALL THE TIME. So seeing them in the movie as a plot point was pretty cool.
Hope you all do the rest of the series. They're all awesome!
Also, you should look at Altered Carbon and Arcane.
I remember Cartoon Network had the MIB animated series and it was SO MUCH FUN and maybe a little more violent? All I remember is I had a crush on agent L.
the first time I saw a trailer for this movie in the 90's, I had just finished reading a novel regarding aliens on Earth, and the Men in Black was involved (and honestly, I had never heard of the theory of the Men in Black until then!)
did you notice the pawn shop guy every time his head gets blown off it grows back a little more deformed each time
Hope you watch the other two films. MiB 2 has its moments but the 3rd is a great film.
Amen to that. Though, I have a soft spot for 2 since I watched the first two films backwards as a kid.
What do you talking about, the rest of the movies are trash
??? The last two completely sucked.
@@abrahamdiaz3648 The joy of opinions. Everyone is allowed to have them and you don't have to agree with them.
The MAKEUP - stellar. Rick Baker is ridiculously talented. He did An American Werewolf in London (where the Oscars category for FX makeup began), basically all other John Landis films, Thriller, The Ring, RDJ in Tropic Thunder .... Love it. But Vincent can definitely transform in a role, too.
I highly recommend the Kevin Smith movie Dogma. It's hilarious.
(At 4:38) You know what's sad? When I was a kid watching this, I did NOT know this was Vincent D'Onofrio.
Excellent reaction video. Love the first film... the second one was fun... the third one was AMAZING (and probably my favorite of this trilogy). MIB: International just didn't work for me. Hope y'all get a chance to watch and enjoy the rest of these

Vincent D'Onofrio completely stole this - an extraordinary physical performance. So funny. Another great Barry Sonnenfeld movie. In a similar vein, his Addams Family movies are both well worth watching - the second, "Addams Family Values" is one of those rare beasts where the sequel is better than the original. Hope you give them a go!
The first time I watched, I thought the shooting test was what exactly what it looked like: a test to see if you could evaluate threats and leave the innocent alone.
It didn't occur to me until I saw your reaction it might have been a test to see how quickly you can come up with a cover up out in the field :)
